But they could not thus harm anyone except by Allah's permission. And they learned what harmed them, not what profited them. And they knew that the buyers of (magic) would have no share in the happiness of the Hereafter. And vile was the price for which they did sell their souls, if they but knew!

SahihAlBukhari-017-001-1110Narrated Ibn Abbas: That he differed with AlHurr Bin Qais Bin Housn AlFazari about the companion of Moses; i.e.; whether he was Kha;dir or not. Ubai Bin Kaab AlAnsari passed by them and Ibn Abbas called him saying; My friend Hur and I have differed about Moses Companion whom Moses asked the way to meet. Did you hear Allah Messenger ﷺ mentioning anything about him? Ubai said; Yes; I heard Allah Apostle saying; While Moses was sitting in the company of some Israelites a man came to him and asked; Do you know Someone who is more learned than you Moses ? Moses said; No. So Allah sent the Divine inspiration to Moses:- Yes; Our Slave Khadir is more learned than you Moses asked Allah how to meet him Khadir So Allah made the fish as a sign for him and it was said to him; When you lose the fish; go back to the place where you lose it and you will meet him. So Moses went on looking for the sign of the fish in the sea. The boy servant of Moses who was accompanying him said to him; Do you remember what happened when we betook ourselves to the rock? I did indeed forget to tell you about the fish. None but Satan made me forget to tell you about it 18.63 Moses said: That is what we have been seeking. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-1356Narrated Hudhaifa: Allah Messenger ﷺ related to us; two prophetic narrations one of which I have seen fulfilled and I am waiting for the fulfillment of the other. The Prophet ﷺ told us that the virtue of honesty descended in the roots of men hearts from Allah and then they learned it from the Quran and then they learned it from the Sunna the Prophet traditions. The Prophet ﷺ further told us how that honesty will be taken away: He said: Man will go to sleep during which honesty will be taken away from his heart and only its trace will remain in his heart like the trace of a dark spot; then man will go to sleep; during which honesty will decrease further still; so that its trace will resemble the trace of blister as when an ember is dropped on one foot which would make it swell; and one would see it swollen but there would be nothing inside. People would be carrying out their trade but hardly will there be a trustworthy person. It will be said; in such-and-such tribe there is an honest man; and later it will be said about some man; What a wise; polite and strong man he is! Though he will not have faith equal even to a mustard seed in his heart. No doubt; there came upon me a time when I did not mind dealing bargaining with anyone of you; for if he was a Muslim his Islam would compel him to pay me what is due to me; and if he was a Christian; the Muslim official would compel him to pay me what is due to me; but today I do not deal except with such-and-such person. The Chapter on Pulpit And Khutba And Preaching Morals in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on If a Muslim stays among the bad people in Sahih AlBukhari
SahihAlBukhari-017-001-3774Narrated Anas Bin Malik: Allah Messenger ﷺ arrived at Medina with Abu Bakr; riding behind him on the same camel. Abu Bakr was an elderly man known to the people; while Allah Messenger ﷺ was a youth that was unknown. Thus; if a man met Abu Bakr; he would say; O Abu Bakr! Who is this man in front of you? Abu Bakr would say; This man shows me the Way; One would think that Abu Bakr meant the road; while in fact; Abu Bakr meant the way of virtue and good. Then Abu Bakr looked behind and saw a horse-rider pursuing them. He said; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! This is a horse-rider pursuing us. The Prophet ﷺ looked behind and said; O Allah! Cause him to fall down. So the horse threw him down and got up neighing. After that the rider; Suraqa said; O Allah Prophet! Order me whatever you want. The Prophet said; Stay where you are and do not allow anybody to reach us. So; in the first part of the day Suraqa was an enemy of Allah Prophet and in the last part of it; he was a protector. Then Allah Apostle alighted by the side of the AlHarra and sent a message to the Ansar; and they came to Allah Prophet and Abu Bakr; and having greeted them; they said; Ride your camels safe and obeyed. Allah Messenger ﷺ and Abu Bakr rode and the Ansar; carrying their arms; surrounded them. The news that Allah Prophet had come circulated in Medina. The people came out and were eagerly looking and saying Allah Prophet has come! Allah Prophet has come! So the Prophet ﷺ went on till he alighted near the house of Abu Ayoub. While the Prophet ﷺ was speaking with the family members of Abu Ayoub ; Abdullah Bin Salam heard the news of his arrival while he himself was picking the dates for his family from his family garden. He hurried to the Prophet ﷺ carrying the dates which he had collected for his family from the garden. He listened to Allah Prophet and then went home. Then Allah Prophet said; Which is the nearest of the houses of our kith and kin? Abu Ayoub replied; Mine; O Allah Prophet! This is my house and this is my gate. The Prophet ﷺ said; Go and prepare a place for our midday rest. Abu Ayoub said; Get up both of you with Allah Blessings. So when Allah Prophet went into the house; Abdullah Bin Salam came and said I testify that you i.e. Muhammad are Apostle of Allah and that you have come with the Truth. The Jews know well that I am their chief and the son of their chief and the most learned amongst them and the son of the most learned amongst them. So send for them i.e. Jews and ask them about me before they know that I have embraced Islam; for if they know that they will say about me things which are not correct. So Allah Messenger ﷺ sent for them; and they came and entered. Allah Messenger ﷺ said to them; O the group of Jews! Woe to you: be afraid of Allah. By Allah except Whom none has the right to be worshipped; you people know for certain; that I am Apostle of Allah and that I have come to you with the Truth; so embrace Islam. The Jews replied; We do not know this. So they said this to the Prophet and he repeated it thrice. Then he said; What sort of a man is Abdullah Bin Salam amongst you? They said; He is our chief and the son of our chief and the most learned man; and the son of the most learned amongst us. He said; What would you think if he should embrace Islam? They said; Allah forbid! He can not embrace Islam. He said; What would you think if he should embrace Islam? They said; Allah forbid! He can not embrace Islam. He said; What would you think if he should embrace Islam? They said; Allah forbid! He can not embrace Islam. He said; O Ibn Salam! Come out to them. He came out and said; O the group of Jews! Be afraid of Allah except Whom none has the right to be worshipped. You know for certain that he is Apostle of Allah and that he has brought a True Religion! They said; You tell a lie. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-7039Narrated Saeed Bin Jubair: I said to Ibn Abbas; Nauf AlBikali claims that Moses; the companion of AlKhadir was not the Moses of the children of Israel Ibn Abbas said; The enemy of Allah Nauf told a lie. Narrated Ubai Bin Kaab that he heard Allah Messenger ﷺ saying; Moses got up to deliver a speech before the children of Israel and he was asked; Who is the most learned person among the people? Moses replied; I am the most learned. Allah admonished him for he did not ascribe knowledge to Allah alone. So Allah revealed to him: At the junction of the two seas there is a slave of Ours who is more learned than you. Moses asked; O my Lord; how can I meet him? Allah said; Take a fish and put it in a basket and set out ; and where you; will lose the fish; you will find him. So Moses took a fish and put it in a basket and set out; along with his boy-servant Yusha Bin Noon; till they reached a rock on which they both lay their heads and slept. The fish moved vigorously in the basket and got out of it and fell into the sea and there it took its way through the sea straight as in a tunnel. 18.61 Allah stopped the current of water on both sides of the way created by the fish; and so that way was like a tunnel. When Moses got up; his companion forgot to tell him about the fish; and so they carried on their journey during the rest of the day and the whole night. The next morning Moses asked his boy-servant Bring us our early meal; no doubt; we have suffered much fatigue in this journey of ours. 18.62 Moses did not get tired till he had passed the place which Allah had ordered him to seek after. His boy-servant then said to him; Do you remember when we be-took ourselves to the rock I indeed forgot the fish; none but Satan made me forget to remember it. It took its course into the sea in a marvelous way. 18.63 There was a tunnel for the fish and for Moses and his boy-servant there was astonishment. Moses said; That is what we have been seeking. So they went back retracing their footsteps. 18.64 They both returned; retracing their steps till they reached the rock. Behold ! There they found a man covered with a garment. Moses greeted him. AlKhadir said astonishingly. Is there such a greeting in your land? Moses said; I am Moses. He said; Are you the Moses of the children of Israel? Moses said; I have come to you so that you may teach me of what you have been taught. AlKhadir said; You will not be able to have patience with me. 18.66 O Moses! I have some of Allah knowledge which He has bestowed upon me but you do not know it; and you too; have some of Allah knowledge which He has bestowed upon you; but I do not know it. Moses said; Allah willing; you will find me patient; and I will not disobey you in anything. 18.6 AlKhadir said to him. If you then follow me; do not ask me about anything until I myself speak to you concerning it. 18.70 ; After that both of them proceeded along the sea coast; till a boat passed by and they requested the crew to let them go on board. The crew recognized AlKhadir and allowed them to get on board free of charge. When they got on board suddenly Moses saw that AlKhadir had pulled out one of the planks of the boat with an adze. Moses said to him. These people gave us a free lift; yet you have scuttled their boat so as to drown its people! Truly; you have done a dreadful thing. 18.71 AlKhadir said; Didnt I say that you can have no patience with me ? 18.72 Moses said; Call me not to account for what I forgot and be not hard upon me for my affair with you. 18.73 Allah Messenger ﷺ said; The first excuse given by Moses; was that he had forgotten. Then a sparrow came and sat over the edge of the boat and dipped its beak once in the sea. AlKhadir said to Moses; My knowledge and your knowledge; compared to Allah knowledge is like what this sparrow has taken out of the sea. Then they both got out of the boat; and while they were walking on the sea shore; AlKhadir saw a boy playing with other boys. AlKhadir got hold of the head of that boy and pulled it out with his hands and killed him. Moses said; Have you killed an innocent soul who has killed nobody! Truly; you have done an illegal thing. 18.74 He said; Didnt I tell you that you can have no patience with me? 18.75 The sub narrator said; the second blame was stronger than the first one. Moses said; If I ask you about anything after this; keep me not in your company; you have received an excuse from me. 18.76 Then they both proceeded until they came to the inhabitants of a town. They asked them food but they refused to entertain them. In that town they found there a wall on the point of falling down. 18.77 AlKhadir set it up straight with his own hands. Moses said; These are people to whom we came; but they neither fed us nor received us as guests. If you had wished; you could surely have exacted some recompense for it. AlKhadir said; This is the parting between me and you..that is the interpretation of those things over which you were unable to hold patience. 18.78-82 Allah Messenger ﷺ said; We wished that Moses could have been more patient so that Allah might have described to us more about their story. The Chapter on Moses And Prophets Moses And Alkhadir in HodHood Indexing, The Book of Prophetic Commentary on the Quran Tafseer of the Prophet in Sahih AlBukhari

SahihMuslim-017-001-17910It has been reported on the authority of Sahl Bin Aba Umama Bin Sahl Bin Hunaif who learned the tradition from his father who in turn learned it from his grandfather-that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Who sought martyrdom with sincerity will be ranked by Allah among the martyrs even if he died on his bed. In his version of the tradition Abd Tahir did not mention the words: with sincerity. The Chapter on Worship And Bounties in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on 46 in Sahih Muslim
SahihMuslim-017-001-19373Abu Saeed AlKhudri reported Allah Messenger ﷺ as saying: There was a person before you who had killed ninety-nine persons and then made an inquiry about the learned persons of the world who could show him the way to salvation. He was directed to a monk. He came to him and told him that he had killed ninety-nine persons and asked him whether there was any scope for his repentance to be accepted. He said: No. He killed him also and thus completed one hundred. He then asked about the learned persons of the earth and he was directed to a scholar; and he told him that he had killed one hundred persons and asked him whether there was any scope for his repentance to be accepted. He said: Yes; what stands between you and the repentance? You better go to such and such land; there are people devoted to prayer and worship and you also worship along with them and do not come to the land of yours since it was an evil land for you. So he went away and he had hardly covered half the distance when death came to him and there was a dispute between the angels of mercy and the angels of punishment. The angels of mercy said: This man has come as a penitant and remorseful to Allah and the angels of punishment said: He has done no good at all. Then there came another angel in the form of a human being in order to decide between them. He said: You measure the land to which he has drawn near. They measured it and found him nearer to the land where he intended to go the land of piety ; and so the angels of mercy took possession of it. Qatada said thatHassan told him that it was said to them that as death approached him; he crawled upon his chest and managed to slip in the land of mercy. The Chapter on Farming And Irrigation Lizards in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on 8 in Sahih Muslim

SunanAbuDawoud-017-001-25828Yazid Bin Umairah; who was one of the companions of Muadh Bin Jabal said: Whenever he muadh Bin jabal sat in a meeting for preaching; he would say: Allah is a just arbiter; those who doubt would perish. One day Muadh Bin jabal said: In the times after you there would be trails in which riches would be abundant. During these trails the Quran would be easy so much so that every believer; hypocrite; man; woman; young; grown up; slave and free man will learn it. Then a man might say: What happened with the people that they do not follow me while I read the Quran? They are not going to follow me until I introduce a novelty for them other than it. So avoid that which is innovated in religion ; for whichever is innovated is an error. I warn you of the deviation of a scholar from right guidance; for sometimes Satan utters a word of error through the tongue of a scholar; and sometimes a hypocrites may speak a word of truth. I said to Muadh Bin jabal: I am at a loss to understand may Allah have mercy on you that a learned man sometimes may speak a word of error and a hypocrite may speak a word of truth. He replied: Yes; avoid the speech of a learned man on distract you from him the learned ; for it is possible that he may withdraw from these well-known things ; and you get the truth when you hear it; for truth has light.Abu Dawud said: In this tradition Mamar on the authority of AlZuhrl said: The words wa la yun iyannaka instead of wa la yuthniyannaka; with the same meaning: it may not distract you salih Bin Kaisan on the authority of AlZurhrl said in this tradition the words Almushtaharat well-know things. He also said the word La yuthniyannaka as Uqail mentioned. SunanAbuDawoud-017-001-28139Narrated Kathir Ibn Qays: Kathir Ibn Qays said: I was sitting with AbudDarda in the Masjid of Damascus. A man came to him and said: AbudDarda; I have come to you from the town of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ for a tradition that I have heard you relate from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. I have come for no other purpose. He said: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: If anyone travels on a road in search of knowledge; Allah will cause him to travel on one of the roads of Paradise. The angels will lower their wings in their great pleasure with one who seeks knowledge; the inhabitants of the heavens and the Earth and the fish in the deep waters will ask forgiveness for the learned man. The superiority of the learned man over the devout is like that of the moon; on the night when it is full; over the rest of the stars. The learned are the heirs of the Prophets; and the Prophets leave neither dinar nor dirham; leaving only knowledge; and he who takes it takes an abundant portion. The Chapter on Knowledge And Scholars in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on Regarding the virtue of knowledge in Sunan Abu Dawoud
