SahihAlBukhari-017-001-3354Narrated Aisha: We went out with Allah Messenger ﷺ on one of his journeys till we reached AlBaida or Dhat AlJaish where my necklace got broken and lost. Allah Messenger ﷺ stopped to search for it and the people too stopped with him. There was no water at that place and they had no water with them. So they went to Abu Bakr and said; Dont you see what Aisha has done? She has made Allah Messenger ﷺ and the people stop where there is no water and they have no water with them. Abu Bakr came while Allah Apostle was sleeping with his head on my thigh and said; You detained Allah Apostle and the people where there is no water and they have no water. He then admonished me and said what Allah wished and pinched me at my flanks with his hands; but I did not move because the head of Allah Messenger ﷺ was on my thigh. Allah Messenger ﷺ kept on sleeping till be got up in the morning and found no water. Then Allah revealed the Divine Verse of Tayammum; and the people performed Tayammum. Usaid Bin AlHudair said. O family of Abu Bakr! This is not the first blessings of yours. We urged the camel on which I was sitting to get up from its place and the necklace was found under it.The Chapter on Lost And Found And Dates in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on If I were to take Khalil in Sahih AlBukhari

Abu Bakr came while Allah Messenger ﷺ was sleeping with his head on my thigh; He said; to me: You have detained Allah Messenger ﷺ and the people where there is no water and they have no water with them. So he admonished me and said what Allah wished him to say and hit me on my flank with his hand. Nothing prevented me from moving because of pain but the position of Allah Messenger ﷺ on my thigh. Allah Messenger ﷺ got up when dawn broke and there was no water. So Allah revealed the Divine Verses of Tayammum. So they all performed Tayammum. Usaid Bin Hudair said; O the family of Abu Bakr! Abdullah replied; Do not pray till water is found. Abu Mousa said; What do you say about the statement of Ammar who was ordered by the Prophet ﷺ to perform Tayammum. The Prophet ﷺ said to him: Perform Tayammum and that would be sufficient. Abdullah replied; Dont you see that Umar was not satisfied by Ammar statement? Abu Mousa said; All right; leave Ammar statement; but what will you say about this verse of Tayammum ? Abdullah kept quiet and then said; If we allowed it; then they would probably perform Tayammum even if water was available; if one of them found it water cold. He applied in the negative. Abu Mousa said; What do you say about this verse from Surat AlMaida: When you do not find water then perform Tayammum with clean earth? Abdullah replied; If we allowed it then they would probably perform Tayammum with clean earth even if water were available but cold. I said to Shaqiq; You then disliked to perform Tayammum because of this? Shaqiq said; Yes. Shaqiq added ; Abu Mousa said; Havent you heard the statement of Ammar to Umar? He said: I was sent out by Allah Messenger ﷺ for some job and I became Junub and could not find water so I rolled myself over the dust clean earth like an animal does; and when I told the Prophet ﷺ of that he said; Like this would have been sufficient. The Prophet ﷺ saying so lightly stroked the earth with his hand once and blew it off; then passed his left hand over the back of his right hand or his right hand over the back of his left hand and then passed them over his face. So Abdullah said to Abu Mousa; Dont you know that Umar was not satisfied with Ammar statement? Narrated Shaqiq: While I was with Abdullah and Abu Mousa; the latter said to the former; Havent you heard the statement of Ammar to Umar? He said; Allah Messenger ﷺ sent you and me out and I became Junub and rolled myself in the dust clean earth for Tayammum. SahihMuslim-017-001-22688Aisha reported: We went with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on one of his journeys and when we reached the place Baida or Dhat Aljaish; my necklace was broken and fell somewhere. The Messenger of Allah way ﷺ along with other people stayed there for searching it. There was neither any water at that place nor was there any water with them the Companions of the Holy Prophet. Some persons came to my father Abu Bakr and said: Do you see what Aisha has done? She has detained the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and persons accompanying him; and there is neither any water here or with them. So Abu Bakr came there and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was sleeping with his head on my thigh. He Abu Bakr said: You have detained the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and other persons and there is neither water here nor with them. She Aisha said: Abu Bakr scolded me and uttered what Allah wanted him to utter and nudged my hips with his hand. And there was nothing to prevent me from stirring but for the fact that the messenger of Allah ﷺ was lying upon my thigh. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ slept till it was dawn at a waterless place. So Allah revealed the verses pertaining to tayammum and they the Prophet and his Companions performed tayammum. SahihMuslim-017-001-22690Shaqiq reported: I was sitting in the company of Abdullah and Abu Mousa when Abu Mousa said: 0 Abdulrahman kunya of Abdullah Bin Masud ; what would you like a man to do about the prayer if he experiences a seminal emission or has sexual intercourse but does not find water for a month? Abdullah said: He should not perform tayammum even if he does not find water for a month. Abdullah said: Then what about the verse in Surat Maida: If you do not find water; betake yourself to clean dust? Abdullah said: If they were granted concession on the basis of this verse; there is a possibility that they would perform tayammum with dust on finding water very cold for themselves. Abu Mousa said to Abdullah: You have not heard the words of Ammar: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent me on an errand and I had a seminal emission; but could find no water; and rolled myself in dust just as a beast rolls itself. I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ then and made a mention of that to him and he the Holy Prophet said: It would have been enough for you to do thus. Then he struck the ground with his hands once and wiped his right hand with the help of his left hand and the exterior of his palms and his face. SunanAlTermithi-017-001-7434Ikrimah narrated that : Ibn Abbas was asked ahout Tayammum. He said: When Allah mentioned Ablution in His Book; He said: So wash your faces and your hands forearms up to the elbows. And He said about Tayammum: And rub therewith your faces and hands And He said: And the male thief and the female thief; cut off their hands. So the Sunnah for cutting is the two hands. Abu Mousa then said: How will you do with the Quranic version about tayammum in the chapter AlMaidah which says:... and you find no water; then go to clean; high ground 5:6 ? Abdullah Bin Masud then said: If they the people are granted concession in this respect; they might perform tayammum with pure earth when water is cold. MuwataMalik-017-001-36166Yahya related to me from Malik from Abd arRahman Ibn AlQasim from his father that Aisha umm Almuminin said; We went out on a journey with the Messenger of Allah; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; and; when we came to Bayda or Dhat AlJaysh; a necklace of mine broke. The Messenger of Allah; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; stopped to look for it and the people stopped with him. There was no water nearby and the people were not carrying any with them; so they came to Abu Bakr AlSiddiq and said; Dont you see what Aisha has done? She has made the Messenger of Allah; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; and the people stop when there is no water nearby and they are not carrying any with them. Aisha continued; Abu Bakr came and the Messenger of Allah; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; had fallen asleep with his head on my thigh. Abu Bakr said; You have made the Messenger of Allah; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; and the people stop when there is no water nearby and they are not carrying any with them She continued; Abu Bakr remonstrated with me and said whatever Allah willed him to say; and began to poke me in the waist. The only thing that stopped me from moving was that the Messenger of Allah; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; had his head on my thigh. The Messenger of Allah; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; slept until morning found him with no water. Allah; the Blessed and Exalted; sent down the ayat of tayammum and so they did tayammum. Usayd Ibn Hudayr said; This is not the first baraka from you; O family of Abu Bakr. Aisha added; We roused the camel I had been on and found the necklace under it. Malik was asked whether a man who did tayammum for one prayer should do tayammum when the time of the next prayer came or whether the first tayammum was enough. He said; No; he does tayammum for every prayer; because he has to look for water for every prayer. If he looks for it and does not find it then he does tayammum. Malik was asked whether a man who did tayammum could lead others in prayer if they were in Ablution. He said; I prefer that someone else should lead them. However; I see no harm in it if he does lead them in prayer. Yahya said that Malik said that a man who did tayammum because he could not find any water; and then stood and said the takbir and entered into the prayer; and then someone came with some water; did not stop his prayer but completed it with tayammum and did Ablution for future prayers. Yahya said that Malik said; Whoever rises for prayer and does not find water and so does what Allah has ordered him to do of tayammum has obeyed Allah. Someone who does find water is neither purer than him nor more perfect in prayer; because both have been commanded and each does as Allah has commanded. What Allah has commanded as far as Ablution is concerned is for the one who finds water; and tayammum is for the one who does not find water before he enters into the prayer. Malik said that a man who was in a state of major ritual impurity could do tayammum and read his portion of Quran and do voluntary prayers as long as he did not find any water. This applied only to circumstances in which it was allowable to pray with tayammum. The Chapter on Peace And Ablution in HodHood Indexing, The Book of The Quran in Muwata Malik
MuwataMalik-017-001-36168Yahya related to me from Malik from Nafi that Abdullah Ibn Umar used to do tayammum up to his elbows. MuwataMalik-017-001-36169Yahya related to me from Malik from Abd arRahman Ibn Harmala that a man asked Said Ibn AlMusayab about what a man who was junub and had done tayammum should do when he came across water. Said said; When he comes across water he must do ghusl for what comes after. Malik said about some one who had a wet dream while he was on a journey and there was only enough water for Ablution and he was not thirsty and so he did not need to use it for that; Let him wash his genitals; and whatever the semen has fallen on; with the water and then he does tayammum with good earth as Allah has ordered him. Malik was asked whether a man who was junub and wished to do tayammum but could only find salty earth could do tayammum with that earth; and whether it was disapproved of to pray on salty earth. He said; There is no harm in praying on salty earth or in using it to do tayammum; because Allah the Blessed and Exalted has said;...and do tayammum with good earth. One is purified by tayammum with everything that is earth; whether it is salty or otherwise. The Chapter on Ablution Or Tayammum After Sleeping in HodHood Indexing, The Book of The Quran in Muwata Malik
MuwataMalik-017-001-36175Yahya related to me from Malik from Abdullah Ibn Abi Bakr from his paternal aunt from the daughter of Zayd Ibn Thabit that she had heard that women used to ask for lamps in the middle of the night to check their purity. She would criticise them for this saying; Women never used to do this; i.e. in the time of the companions. Malik was asked whether a woman whose period had finished could do tayammum to purify herself if she could not find waterand he said; Yes; because she is like some one in a state of major ritual impurity; who; if he cannot find water; does tayammum. The Chapter on Menstruation And Sexual Intercourse in HodHood Indexing, The Book of The Quran in Muwata Malik
