SahihAlBukhari-017-001-011Narrated Rabia: Umar Bin AlKhattab recited Surat AlNahl on a Friday on the pulpit and when he reached the verse of AlSajda he got down from the pulpit and prostrated and the people also prostrated. The next Friday Umar Bin AlKhattab recited the same Surat and when he reached the verse of AlSajda he said; O people! When we recite the verses of AlSajda during the sermon whoever prostrates does the right thing; yet it is no sin for the one who does not prostrate. And Umar did not prostrate that day. Added Ibn Umar Allah has not made the prostration of recitation compulsory but if we wish we can do it.The Chapter on Recitations In Friday in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on Whoever thinks that Allah has not made prostration of recitation compulsory in Sahih AlBukhari
SahihAlBukhari-017-001-025Narrated Sahl Bin Saad AlSaidi: The news about the differences amongst the people of Bani Amr Bin Auf reached Allah Messenger ﷺ and so he went to them along with some of his companions to effect a reconciliation between them. Allah Messenger ﷺ was delayed there; and the time of the prayer was due. Bilal went to Abu Bakr and said to him; Allah Messenger ﷺ has been delayed there and the time of prayer is due. So will you lead the people in prayer? Abu Bakr said; Yes; if you wish. Bilal pronounced the Iqama and Abu Bakr; went forward and said Takbir for the people. In the meantime Allah Messenger ﷺ came crossing the rows of the praying people and stood in the first row and the people started clapping. Abu Bakr; would never glance sideways in his prayer but when the people clapped much he looked back and ﷺ Allah Messenger ﷺ. Allah Messenger ﷺ beckoned him to carry on the prayer. Abu Bakr raised his hands and thanked Allah; and retreated till he reached the first row. Allah Messenger ﷺ went forward and led the people in the prayer. When he completed the prayer he faced the people and said; O people! Why did you start clapping when something unusual happened to you in the prayer? Clapping is only for women. So whoever amongst you comes across something in the prayer should say; Subhan-Allah for there is none who will not turn round on hearing him saying Subhan-Allah. O Abu Bakr! What prevented you from leading the people in the prayer when I beckoned you to do so? Abu Bakr replied; How dare the son of Abu Quhafa lead the prayer in the presence of Allah Messenger ﷺ ?The Chapter on Prayers Rows And Clapping The Hands in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on Beckoning during the Salat by a person in Salat in Sahih AlBukhari
SahihAlBukhari-017-001-1455Narrated Ibn Abbas: I used to teach Quran to Abdulrahman Bin Auf. When Umar performed his last Hajj; Abdulrahman said to me at Mina; Would that you had seen Chief of the believers today! A man came to him and said; So-and-so has said; If Chief of the Believers died; we will give the oath of allegiance to such-and-such person; Umar said; I will get up tonight and warn those who want to usurp the people rights. I said; Do not do so; for the season of Hajj gathers the riffraff mob who will form the majority of your audience; and I am afraid that they will not understand the meaning of your saying properly and may spread an incorrect statement everywhere. You should wait till we reach Medina; the place of migration and the place of the Sunna the Prophet Traditions. There you will meet the companions of Allah Messenger ﷺ from the Muhajirin and the Ansar who will understand your statement and place it in its proper position Umar said; By Allah; I shall do so the first time I stand to address the people in Medina. When we reached Medina; Umar in a Friday Khutba-sermon said; No doubt; Allah sent Muhammad with the Truth and revealed to him the Book Quran ; and among what was revealed; was the Verse of AlRajm stoning adulterers to death. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-1678Narrated Samura Bin Jundub: Allah Messenger ﷺ very often used to ask his companions; Did anyone of you see a dream? So dreams would be narrated to him by those whom Allah wished to tell. One morning the Prophet ﷺ said; Last night two persons came to me in a dream and woke me up and said to me; Proceed! I set out with them and we came across a man lying down; and behold; another man was standing over his head; holding a big rock. Behold; he was throwing the rock at the man head; injuring it. The rock rolled away and the thrower followed it and took it back. By the time he reached the man; his head returned to the normal state. The thrower then did the same as he had done before. I said to my two companions; Subhan Allah! Who are these two persons? They said; Proceed! So we proceeded and came to a man lying flat on his back and another man standing over his head with an iron hook; and behold; he would put the hook in one side of the man mouth and tear off that side of his face to the back of the neck and similarly tear his nose from front to back and his eye from front to back. Then he turned to the other side of the man face and did just as he had done with the other side. He hardly completed this side when the other side returned to its normal state. Then he returned to it to repeat what he had done before. I said to my two companions; Subhan Allah! Who are these two persons? They said to me; Proceed! So we proceeded and came across something like a Tannur a kind of baking oven; a pit usually clay-lined for baking bread. I think the Prophet ﷺ said; In that oven there was much noise and voices. The Prophet ﷺ added; We looked into it and found naked men and women; and behold; a flame of fire was reaching to them from underneath; and when it reached them; they cried loudly. I asked them; Who are these? They said to me; Proceed! And so we proceeded and came across a river. I think he said;.... red like blood. The Prophet ﷺ added; And behold; in the river there was a man swimming; and on the bank there was a man who had collected many stones. Behold; while the other man was swimming; he went near him. The former opened his mouth and the latter on the bank threw a stone into his mouth whereupon he went swimming again. He returned and every time the performance was repeated. I asked my two companions; Who are these two persons? They replied; Proceed! Proceed! And we proceeded till we came to a man with a repulsive appearance; the most repulsive appearance; you ever saw a man having! Beside him there was a fire and he was kindling it and running around it. I asked my companions; Who is this man ? They said to me; Proceed! Proceed! So we proceeded till we reached a garden of deep green dense vegetation; having all sorts of spring colors. In the midst of the garden there was a very tall man and I could hardly see his head because of his great height; and around him there were children in such a large number as I have never seen. I said to my companions; Who is this? They replied; Proceed! Proceed! So we proceeded till we came to a majestic huge garden; greater and better than I have ever seen! My two companions said to me; Go up and I went up. The Prophet ﷺ added; So we ascended till we reached a city built of gold and silver bricks and we went to its gate and asked the gatekeeper to open the gate; and it was opened and we entered the city and found in it; men with one side of their bodies as handsome as the handsomest person you have ever seen; and the other side as ugly as the ugliest person you have ever seen. My two companions ordered those men to throw themselves into the river. Behold; there was a river flowing across the city ; and its water was like milk in whiteness. Those men went and threw themselves in it and then returned to us after the ugliness of their bodies had disappeared and they became in the best shape. The Prophet ﷺ further added; My two companions angels said to me; This place is the Eden Paradise; and that is your place. I raised up my sight; and behold; there I saw a palace like a white cloud! My two companions said to me; That palace is your place. I said to them; May Allah bless you both! Let me enter it. They replied; As for now; you will not enter it; but you shall enter it one day. I said to them; I have seen many wonders tonight. What does all that mean which I have seen? They replied; We will inform you: As for the first man you came upon whose head was being injured with the rock; he is the symbol of the one who studies the Quran and then neither recites it nor acts on its orders; and sleeps; neglecting the enjoined prayers. As for the man you came upon whose sides of mouth; nostrils and eyes were torn off from front to back; he is the symbol of the man who goes out of his house in the morning and tells so many lies that it spreads all over the world. And those naked men and women whom you saw in a construction resembling an oven; they are the adulterers and the adulteresses. And the man whom you saw swimming in the river and given a stone to swallow; is the eater of usury Riba. And the bad looking man whom you saw near the fire kindling it and going round it; is Malik; the gatekeeper of Hell. And the tall man whom you saw in the garden; is Abraham and the children around him are those children who die with AlFitra the Islamic Faith. The narrator added: Some Muslims asked the Prophet; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! What about the children of pagans? The Prophet ﷺ replied; And also the children of pagans. The Prophet ﷺ added; My two companions added; The men you saw half handsome and half ugly were those persons who had mixed an act that was good with another that was bad; but Allah forgave them. The Chapter on Almadinah And Companions in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on The interpretation of dreams after the Fajr prayer in Sahih AlBukhari

The Ansari refrained from killing him but I stabbed him with my spear till I killed him. When we reached Medina ; this news reached the Prophet. He said to me; O Usama! You killed him after he had said; None has the right to be worshipped but Allah? I said; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! He said so in order to save himself. We are owners of livestock and have never been farmers; and they found the climate of Medina unsuitable for them. So Allah Messenger ﷺ ordered that they be given some camels and a shepherd; and ordered them to go out with those camels and drink their milk and urine. So they set out; but when they reached a place called AlHarra; they reverted to disbelief after their conversion to Islam; killed the shepherd and drove away the camels. That year the land was not promising; so the payment of the debt was delayed one year. The Jew came to me at the time of plucking; but gathered nothing from my land. I asked him to give me one year respite; but he refused. This news reached the Prophet ﷺ whereupon he said to his companions; Let us go and ask the Jew for respite for Jabir. All of them came to me in my garden; and the Prophet ﷺ started speaking to the Jew; but he Jew said; O Abu Qasim! I will not grant him respite. When the Prophet ﷺ saw the Jew attitude; he stood up and walked all around the garden and came again and talked to the Jew; but the Jew refused his request. I got up and brought some ripe fresh dates and put it in front of the Prophet. He ate and then said to me; Where is your hut; O Jabir? I informed him; and he said; Spread out a bed for me in it. I spread out a bed; and he entered and slept. When he woke up; I brought some dates to him again and he ate of it and then got up and talked to the Jew again; but the Jew again refused his request. Then the Prophet ﷺ got up for the second time amidst the palm trees loaded with fresh dates; and said; O Jabir! Pluck dates to repay your debt. The Jew remained with me while I was plucking the dates; till I paid him all his right; yet there remained extra quantity of dates. Allah Messenger ﷺ became the bridegroom of Zainab bint Jahsh whom he married at Medina. After the sun had risen high in the sky; the Prophet ﷺ invited the people to a meal. Allah Apostle remained sitting and some people remained sitting with him after the other guests had left. Then Allah Messenger ﷺ got up and went away; and I too; followed him till he reached the door of Aisha room. Then he thought that the people must have left the place by then; so he returned and I also returned with him. Behold; the people were still sitting at their places. So he went back again for the second time; and I went along with him too. When we reached the door of Aisha room; he returned and I also returned with him to see that the people had left. Then one of our men went along with her though we did not think that he knew any such treatment. But he treated the chief by reciting something; and the sick man recovered whereupon he gave him thirty sheep and gave us milk to drink as a reward. When he returned; we asked our friend; Did you know how to treat with the recitation of something? He said; No; but I treated him only with the recitation of the Mother of the Book i.e.; AlFatiha. We said; Do not say anything about it till we reach or ask the Prophet ﷺ so when we reached Medina; we mentioned that to the Prophet in order to know whether the sheep which we had taken were lawful to take or not. So I went to Uthman and when he went out for prayer I said to him ; I have something to say to you and it is a piece of advice for you Uthman said; O man; from you. Umar said: I see that he said; I seek Refuge with Allah from you. So I left him and went to them. Then the messenger of Uthman came and I went to him i.e. Uthman ; Uthman asked; What is your advice? I replied; Allah sent Muhammad with the Truth; and revealed the Divine Book i.e. Quran to him; and you were amongst those who followed Allah and His Apostle; and you participated in the two migrations to Ethiopia and to Medina and enjoyed the company of Allah Messenger ﷺ and saw his way. No doubt; the people are talking much about AlWalid. Uthman said; Did you receive your knowledge directly from Allah Messenger ﷺ ? I said; No; but his knowledge did reach me and it reached even to a virgin in her seclusion. By Allah! I never disobeyed him; nor did I cheat him till Allah took him unto Him. Then I treated Abu Bakr and then Umar similarly and then I was made Caliph. So; dont I have rights similar to theirs? I said; Yes. He said; Then what are these talks reaching me from you people? SahihAlBukhari-017-001-3640Narrated Anas: On the day of the Conquest of Mecca; when the Prophet ﷺ had given from the booty the Quraish; the Ansar said; By Allah; this is indeed very strange: While our swords are still dribbling with the blood of Quraish; our war booty are distributed amongst them. When this news reached the Prophet ﷺ he called the Ansar and said; What is this news that has reached me from you? They used not to tell lies; so they replied; What has reached you is true. He said; Doesnt it please you that the people take the booty to their homes and you take Allah Messenger ﷺ to your homes? SahihAlBukhari-017-001-3724Narrated Ibn Abbas: When Abu Dhar received the news of the Advent of the Prophet ﷺ he said to his brother; Ride to this valley of Mecca and try to find out the truth of the person who claims to be a prophet who is informed of the news of Heaven. Listen to what he says and come back to me. So his brother set out and came to the Prophet ﷺ and listened to some of his talks; and returned to Abu Dhar and said to him. I have seen him enjoining virtuous behavior and saying something that is not poetry. Abu Dhar said; You have not satisfied me as to what I wanted. He then took his journey-food and carried a waterskin of his; containing some water till be reached Mecca. He went to the Masjid and searched for the Prophet and though he did not know him; he hated to ask anybody about him. When a part of the night had passed away; Ali saw him and knew that he was a stranger. So when Abu Dhar saw Ali; he followed him; and none of them asked his companion about anything; and when it was dawn; Abu Dhar took his journey food and his water-skin to the Masjid and stayed there all the day long without being perceived by the Prophet; and when it was evening; he came back to his retiring place. Ali passed by him and said; Has the man not known his dwelling place yet? So Ali awakened him and took him with him and none of them spoke to the other about anything. When it was the third day. Ali did the same and Abu Dhar stayed with him. Then Ali said Will you tell me what has brought you here? Abu Dhar said; If you give me a firm promise that you will guide me; then I will tell you. Ali promised him; and he informed Ali about the matter. Ali said; It is true; and he is the Messenger of Allah. Next morning when you get up; accompany me; and if I see any danger for you; I will stop as if to pass water; but if I go on; follow me and enter the place which I will enter. Abu Dhar did so; and followed Ali till he entered the place of the Prophet; and Abu Dhar went in with him; Abu Dhar listened to some of the Prophet talks and embraced Islam on the spot. The Prophet ﷺ said to him; Go back to your people and inform them about it till you receive my order. Abu Dhar said; By Him in Whose Hand my life is; I will proclaim my conversion loudly amongst them i.e. the pagans. So he went out; and when he reached the Masjid; he said as loudly as possible; I bear witness that None has the right to be worshipped except Allah; and Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah. The People got up and beat him painfully. Then AlAbbas came and knelt over him to protect him and said to the people ; Woe to you! Dont you know that this man belongs to the tribe of Ghifar and your trade to Sham is through their way? So he rescued him from them. Abu Dhar again did the same the next day. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-3735Narrated Ubaidullah Bin Adi Bin AlKhiyar: That AlMiswar Bin Makhrama and Abdulrahman Bin AlAswad Bin Abu Yaghuth had said to him; What prevents you from speaking to your uncle Uthman regarding his brother AlWalid Bin Uqba? The people were speaking against the latter for what he had done. Ubaidullah said; So I kept waiting for Uthman; and when he went out for the prayer; I said to him; I have got something to say to you as a piece of advice. Uthman said; O man! I seek Refuge with Allah from you. So I went away. When I finished my prayer; I sat with AlMiswar and Ibn Abu Yaghutb and talked to both of them of what I had said to Uthman and what he had said to me. They said; You have done your duty. So while I was sitting with them. Uthman Messenger came to me. They said; Allah has put you to trial. I set out and when I reached Uthman; he said; What is your advice which you mentioned a while ago? I recited Tashahhud and added; Allah has sent Muhammad and has revealed the Holy Book i.e. Quran to him. You O Uthman! were amongst those who responded to the call of Allah and His Apostle and had faith in him. And you took part in the first two migrations to Ethiopia and to Medina ; and you enjoyed the company of Allah Messenger ﷺ and learned his traditions and advice. Now the people are talking much about AlWalid Bin Uqba and so it is your duty to impose on him the legal punishment. Uthman then said to me; O my nephew! Did you ever meet Allah Messenger ﷺ ? I said; No; but his knowledge has reached me as it has reached the virgin in her seclusion. Uthman then recited Tashahhud and said; No doubt; Allah has sent Muhammad with the Truth and has revealed to him His Holy Book i.e. Quran and I was amongst those who responded to the call of Allah and His Apostle and I had faith in Muhammad Mission; and I had performed the first two migrations as you have said; and I enjoyed the company of Allah Messenger ﷺ and gave the pledge of allegiance to him. By Allah; I never disobeyed him and never cheated him till Allah caused him to die. Then Allah made Abu Bakr Caliph; and by Allah; I was never disobedient to him; nor did I cheat him. Then Umar became Caliph; and by Allah; I was never disobedient to him; nor did I cheat him. Then I became Caliph. Have I not then the same rights over you as they had over me? I replied in the affirmative. Uthman further said; The what are these talks which are reaching me from you? As for what you ha mentioned about AlWalid Bin Uqb; Allah willing; I shall give him the leg; punishment justly. Then Uthman ordered that AlWalid be flogged fort lashes. He would perform Tawaf round the Kaba and then offer two rakat at the rear of Maqam Ibrahim. 2 Whenever he visited Quba; for he used to visit it every Saturday. When he entered the Masjid; he disliked to leave it without offering a prayer. Ibn Umar narrated that Allah Messenger ﷺ used to visit the Masjid of Quba sometime walking and sometime riding. He ate a morsel of it and said; I will be the chief of all the people on the Day of Resurrection. Do you know how Allah will gather all the first and the last people in one level place where an observer will be able to see all of them and they will be able to hear the announcer; and the sun will come near to them. Some People will say: Dont you see; in what condition you are and the state to which you have reached? Why dont you look for a person who can intercede for you with your Lord? Some people will say: Appeal to your father; Adam. They will go to him and say: O Adam! You are the father of all mankind; and Allah created you with His Own Hands; and ordered the angels to prostrate for you; and made you live in Paradise. Will you not intercede for us with your Lord? Dont you see in what miserable state we are; and to what condition we have reached? On that Adam will reply; My Lord is so angry as He has never been before and will never be in the future; besides ; He forbade me to eat from the tree; but I disobeyed Him ; I am worried about myself! Myself! Go to somebody else; go to Noah. They will go to Noah and say; O Noah! You are the first amongst the messengers of Allah to the people of the earth; and Allah named you a thankful slave. Dont you see in what a miserable state we are and to what condition we have reached? Will you not intercede for us with your Lord? Noah will reply: Today my Lord has become so angry as he had never been before and will never be in the future Myself! Myself! Go to the Prophet Muhammad. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-4166Narrated Ibn Abbas: When Abraham had differences with his wife ; because of her jealousy of Hajar; Ishmael mother ; he took Ishmael and his mother and went away. They had a water-skin with them containing some water; Ishmael mother used to drink water from the water-skin so that her milk would increase for her child. When Abraham reached Mecca; he made her sit under a tree and afterwards returned home. Ishmael mother followed him; and when they reached Kada; she called him from behind; O Abraham! To whom are you leaving us? He replied; I am leaving you to Allah Care. She said; I am satisfied to be with Allah. She returned to her place and started drinking water from the water-skin; and her milk increased for her child. When the water had all been used up; she said to herself; Id better go and look so that I may see somebody. She ascended the Safa mountain and looked; hoping to see somebody; but in vain. When she came down to the valley; she ran till she reached the Marwa mountain. She ran to and fro between the two mountains many times. They she said to herself; id better go and see the state of the child; she went and found it in a state of one on the point of dying. She could not endure to watch it dying and said to herself ; If I go and look; I may find somebody. She went and ascended the Safa mountain and looked for a long while but could not find anybody. Thus she completed seven rounds of running between Safa and Marwa. Again she said to herself ; Id better go back and see the state of the child. But suddenly she heard a voice; and she said to that strange voice; Help us if you can offer any help. Lo! It was Gabriel who had made the voice. Gabriel hit the earth with his heel like this Ibn Abbas hit the earth with his heel to Illustrate it ; and so the water gushed out. Ishmael mother was astonished and started digging. Abu AlQasim i.e. the Prophet said; If she had left the water; flow naturally without her intervention ; it would have been flowing on the surface of the earth. Ishmael mother started drinking from the water and her milk increased for her child. Afterwards some people of the tribe of Jurhum; while passing through the bottom of the valley; saw some birds; and that astonished them; and they said; Birds can only be found at a place where there is water. They sent a messenger who searched the place and found the water; and returned to inform them about it. Then they all went to her and said; O ishmael mother! Will you allow us to be with you or dwell with you ? And thus they stayed there. Later on her boy reached the age of puberty and married a lady from them. Then an idea occurred to Abraham which he disclosed to his wife Sarah ; I want to call on my dependents I left at Mecca. When he went there; he greeted Ishmael wife and said; Where is Ishmael? She replied; He has gone out hunting. Abraham said to her ; When he comes; tell him to change the threshold of his gate. When he came; she told him the same whereupon Ishmael said to her; You are the threshold; so go to your family i.e. you are divorced. Again Abraham thought of visiting his dependents whom he had left at Mecca ; and he told his wife Sarah of his intentions. Abraham came to Ishmael house and asked. Where is Ishmael? Ishmael wife replied; He has gone out hunting; and added; Will you stay for some time and have something to eat and drink? Abraham asked; What is your food and what is your drink? She replied; Our food is meat and our drink is water. He said; O Allah! Bless their meals and their drink. Abu AlQa-sim i.e. Prophet said; Because of Abraham invocation there are blessings in Mecca. Once more Abraham thought of visiting his family he had left at Mecca ; so he told his wife Sarah of his decision. He went and found Ishmael behind the Zamzam well; mending his arrows. He said; O Ishmael; Your Lord has ordered me to build a house for Him. Ishmael said; Obey the order of your Lord. Abraham said; Allah has also ordered me that you should help me therein. Ishmael said; Then I will do. So; both of them rose and Abraham started building the Kaba while Ishmael went on handing him the stones; and both of them were saying; O our Lord ! Accept this service from us; Verily; You are the All-Hearing; the All-Knowing. 2.127. When the building became high and the old man i.e. Abraham could no longer lift the stones to such a high position ; he stood over the stone of AlMaqam and Ishmael carried on handing him the stones; and both of them were saying; O our Lord! SahihMuslim-017-001-17895It has been reported on the authority of Anas Bin Malik who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent Busaisah as a scout to see what the caravan of Abu Sufyan was doing. He came back and met the Prophet in his house where there was nobody except myself and the Messenger of Allah. I do not remember whether he Hadrat Anas made an exception of some wives of the Prophet ﷺ or not and told him the news of the caravan. Having heard the news ; the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came out hurriedly ; spoke to the people and said: We are in need of men ; whoever has an animal to ride upon ready with him should ride with us. People began to ask him permission for bringing their riding animals which were grazing on the hillocks near Medina. He said: No. I want only those who have their riding animals ready. So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and his Companions proceeded towards Badr and reached there forestalling the polytheists of Mecca. When the polytheists also reached there; the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: None of you should step forward to do anything unless I am ahead of him. The polytheists now advanced towards us ; and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said. Get up to enter Paradise which is equal in width to the heavens and the earth. Umair Bin AlHumam AlAnsari said: Messenger of Allah; is Paradise equal in extent to the heavens and the earth? He said: Yes. Umair said: My goodness! The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked him: What prompted you to utter these words i. e. my goodness! ? He said: Messenger of Allah; nothing but the desire that I be among its residents. He said: Thou art surely amona its residents. He took out dates from his bag and began to eat them. Then he said: If I were to live until I have eaten all these dates of mine; it would be a long life. The narrator said : He threw away all the dates he had with him. SahihMuslim-017-001-18036It has been narrated on the authority of Salama Bin AlAkwa who said: We fought against the Fazara; and Abu Bakr was the commander over us. He had been appointed by the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. When we were only at an hour distance from the water of the enemy; Abu Bakr ordered us to attack. We made a halt during the last part of the night to rest and then we attacked from all sides and reached their watering-place where a battle was fought. Some of the enemies were killed and some were taken prisoners. I saw a group of persons that consisted of women and children. I was afraid lest they should reach the mountain before me; so I shot an arrow between them and the mountain. When they saw the arrow; they stopped. So I brought them; driving them along. Among them was a woman from Banu Fazara. She was wearing a leather coat. With her was her daughter who was one of the prettiest girls in Arabia. I drove them along until I brought them to Abu Bakr who bestowed that girl upon me as a prize. So we arrived in Medina. I had not yet disrobed her when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ met me in the street and said: Give me that girl; O Salama. I said: Messenger of Allah; she has fascinated me. I had not yet disrobed her. When on the next day the Messenger of Allah ﷺ again met me in the street; he said: O Salama; give me that girl; may God bless your father. I said: She is for you; Messenger of Allah! By Allah. I have not yet disrobed her. We went out on an expedition; Muawiya being the leader of the people; and we gained a lot of spoils of war. And there was one silver utensil in what we took as spoils. Muawiya ordered a person to sell it for payment to the people soldiers. The people made haste in getting that. The news of this state of affairs reached Ubada Bin Samit; and he stood up and said: I heard Allah Messenger ﷺ forbidding the sale of gold by gold; and silver by silver; and wheat by wheat; and barley by barley; and dates by dates; and salt by salt; except like for like and equal for equal. So he who made an addition or who accepted an addition committed the sin of taking interest. So the people returned what they had got. This reached Muawiya. and he stood up to deliver an address. He said: What is the matter with people that they narrate from the Messenger ﷺ such tradition which we did not hear though we saw him the Holy Prophet and lived in his company? Thereupon; Ubida Bin Samit stood up and repeated that narration; and then said: We will definitely narrate what we heard from Allah Messenger ﷺ though it may be unpleasant to Muawiya or he said: Even if it is against his will. He the Holy Prophet stepped behind and drove it and prayed for it; and then it always moved ahead of other camels. He then said: How do you find your camel? I said: It is; by the grace of your prayer; all right. He said: Would you sell this camel to me? I felt shy to say him; No as we had no other camel for carrying water; but later on I said: Yes; and to I sold it to him on the condition that I would be permitted to ride it until I reached Madina. I said to him: Allah Messenger; I am newly married; so I asked his permission to go ahead of the caravan. He said: Why did you not marry a virgin who would have played with you and you would have played with her? I said to him: Allah Messenger; my father died or he fell as a martyr ; and I have small sisters to look after ; so I did not like the idea that I should marry a woman who is like them and thus be not able to teach them manners and look after them properly. SahihMuslim-017-001-18705Anas Bin Malik reported on the authority of Malik Bin Sa sa; perhaps a person of his tribe; that the Prophet of Allah ﷺ said: I was near the House i. e. Kabah in a state between sleep and wakefulness when I heard someone say: He is the third among the two persons. Then he came to me and took me with him. Then a golden basin containing the water of Zamzam was brought to me and my heart was opened up to such and such part. He replied: It means that it was opened up to the lower part of his abdomen Then the hadith continues : My heart was extracted and it was washed with the water of Zamzam and then it was restored in its original position; after which it was filled with faith and wisdom. I was then brought a white beast which is called AlBuraq; bigger than a donkey and smaller than a mule. Its stride was as long as the eye could reach. I was mounted on it; and then we went forth till we reached the lowest heaven. Gabriel asked for the gate to be opened; and it was said: Who is he? He replied: Gabriel. It was again said: Who is with thee? He replied: Muhammad ﷺ. It was said: Has he been sent for? He Gabriel said: Yes. He the Prophet said: Then the gate was opened for us and it was said : Welcome unto him! His is a blessed arrival. Then we came to Adam ﷺ. And he the narrator narrated the whole account of the hadith. The Holy Prophet observed that he met Jesus in the second heaven; Yahya peace be on both of them in the third heaven; Yousif in the third; Idris in the fourth; Harun in the fifth peace and blessings of Allah be upon them. Then we travelled on till we reached the sixth heaven and came to Moses ﷺ and I greeted him and he said: Welcome unto righteous brother and righteous prophet. And when I passed by him he wept; and a voice was heard saying: What makes thee weep? He said: My Lord; he is a young man whom Thou hast sent after me as a prophet and his followers will enter Paradise in greater numbers than my followers. Then we travelled on till we reached the seventh heaven and I came to Ibrahim. He the narrator narrat- ed in this hadith that the Prophet of Allah ﷺ told that he saw four rivers which flowed from the root of the lote-tree of the farthest limits : two manifest rivers and two hidden rivers. I said: Gabriel! what are these rivers? He replied: The two hidden rivers are the rivers of Paradise; and as regards the two manifest ones; they are the Nile and the Euphrates. Then the Bait AlMamur was raised up to me. I said: O Gabriel! what is this? He replied: It is the Bait AlMamur. Seventy thousand angels enter into it daily and; after they come out; they never return again. Two vessels were then brought to me. The first one contained wine and the second one contained milk; and both of them were placed before me. I chose milk. It was said: You did right. Allah will guide rightly through you your Ummah on the natural course. Then fifty prayers daily were made obligatory for me. SahihMuslim-017-001-19151Yusair Bin Jabir reported: Once there blew a red storm in Kufah that there came a person who had nothing to say but these words : Abdullah Bin Masud; the Last Hour has come. He Abdullah Bin Masud was sitting reclining against something; and he said: The Last Hour would not come until shares of inheritance are not distributed and there is no rejoicing over spoils of war. Then he said pointing towards Syria; with the gesture of his hand like this: The enemy shall muster strength against Muslims and the Muslims will muster strength against them Syrians. I said: You mean Rome? And he said: Yes; and there would be a terrible fight and the Muslims would prepare a detachment for fighting unto death which would not return but victorious. They will fight until night will intervene them; both the sides will return without being victorious and both will be wiped out. The Muslims will again prepare a detachment for fighting unto death so that they may not return but victorious. When it would be the fourth day; a new detachment out of the remnant of the Muslims would be prepared and Allah will decree that the enemy should be routed. And they would fight such a fight the like of which would not be seen; so much so that even if a bird were to pass their flanks; it would fall down dead before reaching the end of them. There would be such a large scale massacre that when counting would be done; only one out of a hundred men related to one another would be found alive. So what can be the joy at the spoils of such war and what inheritance would be divided! They would be in this very state that they would hear of a calamity more horrible than this. And a cry would reach them: The Dajjal has taken your place among your offspring. They will; therefore; throw away what would be in their hands and go forward sending ten horsemen; as a scouting party. Allah Messenger ﷺ said: I know their names and the names of their forefathers and the color of their horses. He said: Why so? I said: Because you have invoked curse and hurled malediction upon both of them. SahihMuslim-017-001-19958Muadh Bin Jabal reported that he went along with Allah Apostle ﷺ in the expedition of Tabuk and he the Holy Prophet combined the prayers. He offered the noon and afternoon prayers together and the sunset and night prayers together and on the other day he deferred the prayers; he then came out and offered the noon and afternoon prayers together. He then went in and later on came out and then after that offered the sunset and night prayers together and then said: God willing; you would reach by tomorrow the fountain of Tabuk and you should not come to that until it is dawn; and he who amongst you happens to go there should not touch its water until I come. We came to that and two persons amongst us reached that fountain ahead of us. It was a thin flow of water like the shoelace. Allah Messenger ﷺ asked them whether they had touched the water. They said: Yes. Allah Apostle ﷺ scolded them; and he said to them what he had to say by the will of God. The people then took water of the fountain in their palms until it became somewhat significant and Allah Messenger ﷺ washed his hands and his face too in it; and then; took it again in that fountain and there gushed forth abundant water from that fountain; until all the people drank to their fill. He then said: Muadh; it is hoped that if you live long you would see its water irrigating well the gardens. The Chapter on Prayers And Ablution in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on 3 in Sahih Muslim

SahihMuslim-017-001-20169Saeed Bin jubair reported: I said to Ibn Abbas that Nauf AlBikali was of the opinion that Moses ﷺ ; the Apostle of Bani Israil; was not the same who accompanied Khadir; whereupon he said: The enemy of Allah tells a lie. I heard Ubay Bin Kaab say: Moses ﷺ stood up to give sermon to the people of Israil. He was asked as to who amongst the people has the best knowledge; whereupon he said: I have the best knowledge. Thereupon Allah was annoyed with him that he did not attribute the best knowledge to Him. He revealed to him: A servant amongst My servants is at the junction of two rivers who has more knowledge than yours. Moses said: How can I meet him? It was said to him: Carry a fish in the large basket and the place where you find it missing there you will find him. Thereupon Moses proceeded forth along with a young man Yusha. Joshua Bin Nan and Moses ﷺ put the fish in the basket and there went along with him the young man Yusha until they came to a certain rock and Moses and his companion went to sleep and the fish stirred in that basket and fell into the ocean and Allah stopped the current of water like a vault until the way was made for the fish. Moses and his youn. companion were astonished and they walked for the rest of the day and the night and the friend of Moses forgot to inform him of this incident. When it was morning; Moses ﷺ said to the young man: Bring for us the breakfast for we are dead tired because of this journey; and they did not feel exhausted until they had passed that place where they had been commanded to stay. He said: Dont you know that when we reached the Sakhra rock I forgot the fisii and noth ng made me forget it but the satan that I. could nit remember it? How strange is it that the fish found a way in the river? Moses said: That was what we had been aiming at. Then both of them retraced their steps until they reached Sakhra; there they saw a man covered with a cloth. Moses greeted him. Khadir said to him: Where is AlSalam in our country.? He said: I am Moses; whereupon he Khadir said: You mean the Moses of Bani Israil? He said: Yes. He Khadir said: You have a knowledge out of the knowledge of Allah which in fact Allah imparted to you and about that I know nothing and I have knowledge out of Allah knowledge which He imparted to me and about that you do not know. Moses ﷺ said to him: May I follow you so that you may teach me that with which you have been taught righteousness. He said: You will not be able to bear with me; how you will be able to bear that about which you do not know? Moses said: Thou wilt find me patient; nor shalt I disobey you in aught. Khadir said to him: If you were to follow me; then do not ask me about anything until I myself speak to you about it. He said: Yes. So Khadir and Moses set forth on the bank of the river that there came before them a boat. Both of theni talked to them the owners of the boat so that they might carry both of them. They had recognised Khadir and they carried them free. Khadir thereupon took hold of a plank in the boat and broke it away. Moses said: These people have carried us without any charge and you attempt to break their boat so that the people sailing in the boat may drown. This is something grievous that you have done. He said: Did I not say that you would not bear with me? He said: Blame me not for what I forgot and be not hard upon what I did. Then both of them got down from the boat and began to walk along the coastline that they saw a boy who had been playing with other boys. Khadir pulled up his head and killed him. Moses said: Have you killed an innocent person who is in no way guilty of slaying another? You have done something horrible. Thereupon he said: Did I not say to you that you will not be able to bear with me? He Moses said: This act is more grievous than the first one. He Moses further said. If I ask you about anything after this; keep not company with me; then you would no doubt find a plausible excuse for this. Then they both walked on until they reached the inhabitants of a village. They asked its inhabitants for food but they refused to entertain them as their guests. They found in it a wall which had been bent on one side and was about to fall. Khadir set it right with his own hand. Moses; said to him: It is the people to whom we came but they showed us no hospitality and they did not serve us food. If you wish you can get wages for it. He Khadir said: This is the parting of ways between mt and you. Now I wish to reveal to you the significance of that for which you could not bear with me. Allah Messenger ﷺ said. May Allah have mercy upon Moses! I wish if Moses could show patience and a fuller story of both of them could have been told. Allah Messenger ﷺ said that the first thing which Moses said was out of forgetfulness. Then there came a sparrow until it perched on the wall of the boat and took water from the ocean. Thereupon; Khadir said: My knowledge and your knowledge in comparison with the knowledge of Allah is even less than the water taken by the sparrow in its beak in comparison to the water of the ocean; and Saeed Bin jubair used to recite verses 79 and 80 of Surat Kahf in this way: There was before them a king who used to seize every boat by force which was in order; the boy was an unbeliever. The Chapter on Moses And Prophets Moses And Alkhadir in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on 46 in Sahih Muslim
SahihMuslim-017-001-20345Abdullah. Ibn Abbas reported: A person from the Ansar who was amongst the Companions of Allah Messenger ﷺ reported to me: As we were sitting during the night with Allah Messenger ﷺ ; a meteor shot gave a dazzling light. Allah Messenger ﷺ said: What did you say in the pre-Islamic days when there was such a shot of meteor ? They said: Allah and His Messenger know best the actual position ; but we; however; used to say that that very night a great man had been born and a great man had died; whereupon Allah Messenger ﷺ said: These meteors are shot neither at the death of anyone nor on the birth of anyone. Allah; the Exalted and Glorious; issues Command when He decides to do a thing. Then the Angels supporting the Throne sing His glory; then sing the dwellers of heaven who are near to them until this glory of God reaches them who are in the heaven of this world. Then those who are near the supporters of the Throne ask these supporters of the Throne: What your Lord has said? And they accordingly inform them what He says. Then the dwellers of heaven seek information from them until this information reaches the heaven of the world. In this process of transmission the jinn snatches what he manages to overhear and he carries it to his friends. And when the Angels see the jinn they attack them with meteors. If they narrate only which they manage to snatch that is correct but they alloy it with lies and make additions to it.The Chapter on Good Manners And The Companions in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on 35 in Sahih Muslim
SahihMuslim-017-001-20567Abdullah reported that Allah had cursed those women who tattooed and who have themselves tattooed; those who pluck hair from their faces and those who make spaces between their teeth for beautification changing what God has created. This news reached a woman of the tribe of Asad who was called Umm Yaqub and she used to recite the Holy Quran. She came to him and said: What is this news that has reached me from you that you curse those women who tattooed and those women who have themselves tattooed; the women who pluck hair from their faces and who make spaces between their teeth for beautification changing what God has created? Thereupon Abdullah said: Should I not curse one upon whom Allah Messenger ﷺ has invoked curse and that is in the Book also. Thereupon that woman said: I read the Quran from cover to cover; but I did not find that in it. whereupon he said: If you had read thoroughly you would have definitely found this in that as Allah; the Exalted and Glorious; has said: What Allah Messenger brings for you accept that and what he has forbidden you; refrain from that. That woman said: I find this thing in your wife even now. Thereupon he said: Go and see her. She reported: I went to the wife of Abdullah but found nothing of this sort in her. She came back to him and said: I have not seen anything. whereupon he said: Had there been anything like it in her; I would have never slept with her in the bed.The Chapter on Grooming The Pubic Hear And Plucking in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on 33 in Sahih Muslim

This letter goes This is the obligatory sadaqah zakat which the Messenger of Allah ﷺ imposed on Muslims which Allah commanded his Prophet ﷺ to impose. Those Muslims who are asked for the proper amount must give it; but those who are asked for more than that must not give it. For less than twenty five Camels a goat is to be given for every five Camels. When they reach twenty five to thirty five; a she Camel in her second year is to be given. If there is no she Camel in her second year; a male Camel in its third year is to be given. When they reach thirty six to forty five; a she Camel in her third year is to be given. When they reach forty six to sixty ; a she Camel in her fourth year which is ready to be covered by a stallion is to be given. If anyone whose Camels reach the number on which a she Camel in her fourth year is payable does not possess but possesses one in her fifth year; that will be accepted from him; and the collector must give him twenty dirhams or two goats. If anyone whose Camels reach the number on which a she Camel in her fourth year is payable possesses only one in her third year; that will be accepted from him.Abu Dawud said From here I could not retain accurately from Mousa as I liked And he must give along with it two goats if he can conveniently give them; or else twenty dirhams. He then came to him and Rafi told him that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to Banu Harithah and saw crop in the land of Zuhayr. He said: What an excellent crop of Zuhayr is! They said: It does not belong to Zuhayr. He asked: Is this not the land of Zuhayr? They said: Yes; but the crop belongs to so-and-so. He said: Take your crop and give him the wages. Rafi said: We took our crop and gave him the wages. SunanAbuDawoud-017-001-29275Narrated A man from the companions of the Prophet: Abdulrahman Ibn Kaab Ibn Malik reported on the authority of a man from among the companions of the Prophet ﷺ : The infidels of the Quraysh wrote a letter to Ibn Ubay and to those who worshipped idols from alaous and AlKhazraj; while the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was at that time at Medina before the battle of Badr. They wrote : You gave protection to our companion. We swear by Allah; you should fight him or expel him; or we shall come to you in full force; until we kill your fighters and appropriate your women. When this news reached Abdullah Ibn Ubay and those who were worshippers of idols; with him they gathered together to fight the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. When this news reached the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ; he visited them and said: The threat of the Quraysh to you has reached its end. They cannot contrive a plot against you; greater than what you yourselves intended to harm you. Are you willing to fight your sons and brethren? When they heard this from the Prophet ﷺ ; they scattered. This reached the infidels of the Quraysh. The infidels of the Quraysh again wrote a letter to the Jews after the battle of Badr: You are men of weapons and fortresses. You should fight our companion or we shall deal with you in a certain way. And nothing will come between us and the anklets of your women. When their letter reached the Prophet ﷺ ; they gathered Banu AlNadir to violate the treaty. They sent a message to the Prophet ﷺ : Come out to us with thirty men from your companions; and thirty rabbis will come out from us till we meet at a central place where they will hear you. If they testify to you and believe in you; we shall believe in you. The narrator then narrated the whole story. When the next day came; the Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out in the morning with an army; and surrounded them. He told them: I swear by Allah; you will have no peace from me until you conclude a treaty with me. But they refused to conclude a treaty with him. He therefore fought them the same day. Next he attacked Banu Quraysh with an army in the morning; and left Banu AlNadir. He asked them to sign a treaty and they signed it. He turned away from them and attacked Banu AlNadir with an army. He fought with them until they agreed to expulsion. Banu AlNadir were deported; and they took with them whatever their camels could carry; that is; their property; the doors of their houses; and their wood. Palm-trees were exclusively reserved for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Allah bestowed them upon him and gave them him as a special portion. He Allah ; the Exalted; said: What Allah has bestowed on His Apostle and taken away from them; for this ye made no expedition with either camel corps or cavalry. He said: Without fighting. So the Prophet ﷺ gave most of it to the emigrants and divided it among them; and he divided some of it between two men from the helpers; who were needy; and he did not divide it among any of the helpers except those two. The rest of it survived as the sadaqah of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ which is in the hands of the descendants of Fatimah Allah be pleased with her.The Chapter on Military Expedition And Quraish in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on Regarding The Incidents With AlNadir in Sunan Abu Dawoud

He drank water and came out. Suddenly he saw a dog panting and eating soil due to thirst. The man said to himself This dog must have reached the same condition due to thirst as I had reached. So he went down into the well; filled his sock with water; held it with his mouth and came up. He supplied water to the dog. Allaah appreciated this and forgave him. MuwataMalik-017-001-34299Yahya related to me from Malik from Zayd Ibn Aslam from Ata Ibn Yasar that Abdullah Ibn Abbas said; There was an eclipse of the sun and the Messenger of Allah; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; prayed; and the people prayed with him. He stood for a long time; nearly as long as it takes to recite Surat AlBaqara Surat 2 ; and then went into ruku for a long time. Then he rose and stood for a long time; though less than the first time. Then he went into ruku for a long time; though less than the first time. Then he went down into sajda. Then he stood for a long time; though less than the first time. Then he went into ruku for a long time; though less than the first time. Then he rose and stood for a long time; though less than the firsttime. Then he went into ruku for a long time; though less than the first time. Then he went down into sajda; and by the time he had finished the sun had appeared. Then he said; The sun and the moon are two of Allah signs. They do not eclipse for anyone death nor for anyone life. When you see an eclipse; remember Allah. They said; Messenger of Allah; we saw you reach out for something while you were standing here and then we saw you withdraw. He said; I saw the Garden and I reached out for a bunch of grapes from it; and if I had taken it you would have been able to eat from it for as long as this world lasted. Then I saw the Fire - and I have never seen anything more hideous than what I saw today - and I saw that most of its people were women. They said; Why; Messenger of Allah? He said; Because of their ungratefulness kufr. Someone said; Are they ungrateful toAllah? He said; They are ungrateful to their husbands and they are ungrateful for good behaviour towards them. Even if you were to behave well towards one of them for a whole lifetime and then she were to see you do something that she did not like she would say that she had never seen anything good from you.The Chapter on Prostration And Eclipse Of The Sun in HodHood Indexing, The Book of Prayer in Muwata Malik

MuwataMalik-017-001-34745Yahya said that Malik said; When the relatives of the deceased accept the blood-money then it is inherited according to the Book of Allah. Daughters of the dead man inherit and so do sisters; and whichever women would inherit from him ordinarily. If the women do not take all his inheritance; then what remains goes to the agnatic relations who most deserve to inherit from him in conjunction with the women. Malik said; When one of the heirs of a man killed by mistake attempts to take his due from the blood-money while his companions are absent; he may not do that; and he has no right to any of the blood-money; however large or small; unless the qasama has been completed by him. If he swears fifty oaths then he has the right to his portion of the blood-money. That is because the blood-money is not established as due without there being fifty oaths; and the blood- money is not established as due unless the responsibility for the blood is established. If any one of the heirs comes after that he swears a number of the oaths commensurate with his fraction of the inheritance and takes his right until all the heirs exact their complete right. If a maternal uncle comes he has one sixth and must swear one sixth of the fifty oaths. So whoever swears may take his due from the blood-money and whoever abstains annuls his right. If one of the heirs is absent or is a child who has not reached puberty; those who are present swear fifty oaths and if the one who was absent comes after that or the child reaches puberty; they swear. and they swear according to their due of the blood-money and according to their shares of inheritance from it. MuwataMalik-017-001-34819Malik related to me that he had heard that a slave-girl came to Umar Ibn AlKhattab who had been beaten by her master with a red hot iron and he set her free. Malik said; The generally agreed- on way of doing things among us is that a man is not permitted to be freed while he has a debt against him which exceeds his property. MuwataMalik-017-001-34856Yahya related to me from Malik that Yahya Ibn Said heard Sulayman Ibn Yasar mention that a face wound in which the bone was bared was like a head wound in which the bone was bared; unless the face was scarred by the wound. Then the blood-money is increased by one half of the blood-money of the head wound in which the skin was bared so that seventy five dinars are payable for it. Malik said; What is done in our community is that the head wound with splinters has fifteen camels. He explained; The head wound with splinters is that from which pieces of bone fly off and which does not reach the brain. It can be in the head or the face. Malik said; The generally agreed on way of doing things in our community; is that there is no retaliation for a wound to the brain or a belly wound; and Ibn Shihab has said; There is no retaliation for a wound to the brain. Malik explained; The wound to the brain is what pierces the bones to the brain. This type of wound only occurs in the head. It is that which reaches the brain when the bones are pierced. Malik said; What is done in our community is that there is no blood-money paid on any head wound less than one which lays bare the skull. Blood-money is payable only for the head wound that bares the bone and what is worse than that. That is because the Messenger of Allah; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; stopped at the head wound which bared the bone in his letter to Amr Ibn Hazm. He made it five camels. The imams; past and present; have not made any blood- money payable for injuries less than the head wound which bares the bone. The Chapter on Wounds In Crimes And Felonies in HodHood Indexing, The Book of General Subjects in Muwata Malik
MuwataMalik-017-001-34888Malik related to me from Ibn Shihab from Amir Ibn Sad Ibn Abi Waqqas that his father said; The Messenger of Allah; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; came to me to treat me for a pain which became hard to bear in the year of the farewell hajj. I said; Messenger of Allah; you can see how far the pain has reached me. I have property and only my daughter inherits from me. Shall I give two thirds of my property as sadaqa? The Messenger of Allah; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; said; No. I said; Half? He said; No. Then the Messenger of Allah; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; said; A third; and a third is a lot. Leaving your heirs rich is better than leaving them poor to beg from people. You never spend anything on maintenance desiring the Face of Allah by it; but that you are rewarded for it; even what you appoint for your wife. Sad said; Messenger of Allah; will I be left here in Makka after my companions have departed for Madina? The Messenger of Allah; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; said; If you are left behind; and do sound deeds you will increase your degree and elevation by them. Perhaps you will be left behind so that some people may benefit by you and others may be harmed by you. O Allah! complete their hijra for my companions; and do not turn them back on their heels. The unfortunate one is Said Ibn Khawla. The Messenger of Allah; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; was distressed on his account for he had died at Makka. Yahya said that he heard Malik speak about a man who willed a third of his property to a man and said as well; My slave will serve so-and-so another man for as long as he lives; then he is free; then that was looked into; and the slave was found to be a third of the property of the deceased. Malik said; The service of the slave is evaluated. Then the two of them divide it between them. The one who was willed a third takes his third; as a share; and the one who was willed the service of the slave takes what was evaluated for him of the slave service. Each of them takes; from the service of the slave or from his wage if he has a wage; according to his share. If the one who was given the service of the slave for as long as he lived dies; then the slave is freed. Yahya said that he heard Malik speak about someone who willed his third and said So-and-so has such- and-such; and so-and-so has such-and-such; naming some of his property; and his heirs protested that it was more than a third. Malik said; The heirs then have an option between giving the beneficiaries their full bequests and taking the rest of the property of the deceased; or between dividing among the beneficiaries the third of the property of the deceased and surrendering to them their third. If they wish; their rights in it reach as far as they reach. The Chapter on Slave As A Property in HodHood Indexing, The Book of Hair in Muwata Malik
MuwataMalik-017-001-34928Malik related to me from Yazid Ibn Abdullah Ibn AlHadi from Muhammad Ibn Ibrahim Ibn AlHarith AlTaymi from Sulayman Ibn Yasar from Abdullah Ibn Abi Umaya that a woman husband died; and she did the idda of four months and ten days. Then she married when she was free to marry. She stayed with her husband for four and a half months; then gave birth to a fully developed child. Her husband went to Umar Ibn AlKhattab and mentioned that to him; so Umar called some of the old women of the Aljahiliya and asked them about that. One of the women said; I will tell you what happened with this woman. When her husband died; she was pregnant by him; but then the blood flowed from her because of his death and the child became dry in her womb. When her new husband had intercourse with her and the water reached the child; the child moved in the womb and grew. Either his master gives the price of what his slave has used; or he surrenders his slave to them as compensation. MuwataMalik-017-001-35150Malik said; The generally agreed on way of doing things among us; in which there is no dispute; and which I saw the people of knowledge in our city doing; about paternal relations is that full brothers are more entitled to inherit than half-brothers by the father and half-brothers by the father are more entitled to inherit than the children of the full brothers. The sons of the full brothers are more entitled to inherit than the sons of the half-brothers by the father. The sons of the half-brothers by the father are more entitled to inherit than the sons of the sons of the full brothers. The sons of the sons of the half-brothers by the father side are more entitled to inherit than the paternal uncle; the full brother of the father. The paternal uncle; the full brother of the father; is more entitled to inherit than the paternal uncle; the half-brotherof the father on the father side. The paternal uncle; the half-brother of the father on the father side is more entitled to inherit than the sons of the paternal uncle; the full brother of the father. The son of the paternal uncle on the father side is more entitled to inherit than the paternal great uncle; the full brother of the paternal grandfather. Malik said; Everything about which you are questioned concerning the inheritance of the paternal relations is like this. Trace the genealogy of the deceased and whoever among the paternal relations contends for inheritance. If you find that one of them reaches the deceased by a father and none of them except him reaches him by a father; then make his inheritance to the one who reaches him by the nearest father; rather than the one who reaches him by what is above that. If you find that they all reach him by the same father who joins them; then see who is the nearest of kin. If there is only one half-brother by the father; give him the inheritance rather than more distant paternal relations. If there is a full brother and you find them equally related from a number of fathers or to one particular father so that they all reach the genealogy of the deceased and they are all half-brothers by the father or full brothers; then divide the inheritance equally among them. If the parent of one of them is an uncle the full-brother of the father of the deceased and whoever is with him is an uncle the paternal half brother of the father of the deceased ; the inheritance goes to the sons of the full brother of the father rather than the sons of the paternal half- brother of the father. That is because Allah; the Blessed; the Exalted; said; Those related by blood are nearer to one another in the Book of Allah; surely Allah has knowledge of everything. Malik said; The paternal grandfather; is more entitled to inherit than sons of the full-brother; and more entitled than the uncle; the full brother of the father. The son of the father brother is more entitled to inherit from mawali retainers freed slaves than the grandfathers. The Chapter on Inheritance And Half Brothers in HodHood Indexing, The Book of Hudud in Muwata Malik
MuwataMalik-017-001-35242Yahya related to me from Malik from Yahya Ibn Said from Said Ibn AlMusayab that Umar Ibn AlKhattab said; The woman who loses her husband and does not know where he is; waits for four years; then she does idda for four months; and then she is free to marry. Malik said; If she marries after her idda is over; regardless of whether the new husband has consummated the marriage or not; her first husband has no means of access to her. Malik said; That is what is done among us and if her husband reaches her before she has remarried; he is more entitled to her. Malik said that he had seen people disapproving of someone who said that one of the people of knowledge attributed to Umar Ibn AlKhattab that he said; Her first husband chooses when he comes either her bride-price or his wife. Malik said; I have heard that Umar Ibn AlKhattab; speaking about a woman whose husband divorced her while he was absent from her; and then he took her back and the news of his taking her back had not reached her; while the news of his divorcing her had; and so she had married again; said; Her first husband who divorced her has no means of access to her whether or not the new husband has consummated the marriage. Yahya said that Malik said; Someone who is travelling and knows that he will be reaching his people in the first part of the day; and then dawn breaks before he gets there; should be fasting when he gets there. Malik said; Someone who intends to go away on a journey in Ramadan; and then dawn breaks while he is still on his land before he has left; should fast that day. MuwataMalik-017-001-35552Yahya related to me from Malik that Ibn Shihab said; The first person to deduct zakat from allowances was Muawiya Ibn Abi Sufyan. i.e. the deduction being made automatically. Malik said; The agreed sunna with us is that zakat has to be paid on twenty dinars of gold coin ; in the same way as it has to be paid on two hundred dirhams of silver. Malik said; There is no zakat to pay on gold that is clearly less than twenty dinars in weight but if it increases so that by the increase the amount reaches a full twenty dinars in weight then zakat has to be paid. Similarly; there is no zakat to pay on silver that is clearly less than two hundred dirhams in weight ; but if it increases so that by the increase the amount reaches a full two hundred dirhams in weight then zakat has to be paid. If it passes the full weight then I think there is zakat to pay; whether it be dinars or dirhams. i.e. the zakat is assessed by the weight and not the number of the coins. Malik said; about a man who had one hundred and sixty dirhams by weight; and the exchange rate in his town was eight dirhams to a dinar; that he did not have to pay any zakat. Zakat had only to be paid on twenty dinars of gold or two hundred dirhams. Malik said; in the case of a man who acquired five dinars from a transaction or in some other way which he then invested in trade; that; as soon as it increased to a zakatable amount and then a year elapsed; he had to pay zakat on it; even if the zakatable amount was reached one day before or one day after the passing of a year. There was then no zakat to pay on it from the day the zakat was taken until a year had elapsed over it. Malik said; in the similar case of a man who had in his possession ten dinars which he invested in trade and which reached twenty dinars by the time one year had elapsed over them; that he paid zakat on them right then and did not wait until a year had elapsed over them; counting from the day when they actually reached the zakatable amount. This was because a year had elapsed over the original dinars and there were now twenty of them in his possession. After that there was no zakat to pay on them from the day the zakat was paid until another year had elapsed over them. Malik said; What we are agreed upon here in Madina regarding income from hiring out slaves; rent from property; and the sums received when a slave buys his freedom; is that no zakat is due on any of it; whether great or small; from the day the owner takes possession of it until a year has elapsed over it from the day when the owner takes possession of it. Malik said; in the case of gold and silver which was shared between two co-owners; that zakat was due from any one whose share reached twenty dinars of gold; or two hundred dirhams of silver; and that no zakat was due from anyone whose share fell short of this zakatable amount. If all the shares reached the zakatable amount and the shares were not equally divided; zakat was taken from each man according to the measure of his share. This applied only when the share of each man among them reached the zakatable amount; because the Messenger of Allah; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; had said; There is no zakat to pay on less than five awaq of silver. Malik commented; This is what I prefer most out of what I have heard about the matter. Malik said; When a man has gold and silver dispersed among various people he must add it all up together and then take out the zakat due on the total sum. Malik said; No zakat is due from some one who acquires gold or silver until a year has elapsed over his acquisition from the day it became his.The Chapter on Precious Metals And Zakat in HodHood Indexing, The Book of Faraid in Muwata Malik
MuwataMalik-017-001-35554Malik said; In my opinion; and Allah knows best; nothing is taken from what comes out of mines until what comes out of them reaches a value of twenty gold dinars or two hundred silver dirhams. When it reaches that amount there is zakat to pay on it where it is on the spot. Zakat is levied on anything over that; according to how much of it there is as long as there continues to be a supply from the mine. If the vein runs out; and then after a while more becomes obtainable; the new supply is dealt with in the same way as the first; and payment of zakat on it is begun on it as it was begun on the first. Malik said; Mines are dealt with like crops; and the same procedure is applied to both. Zakat is deducted from what comes out of a mine on the day it comes out; without waiting for a year; just as a tenth is taken from a crop at the time it is harvested; without waiting for a year to elapse over it.The Chapter on Precious Metals And Zakat in HodHood Indexing, The Book of Faraid in Muwata Malik
MuwataMalik-017-001-35566Yahya related to me from Malik from Yazid Ibn Khusayfa that he had asked Sulayman Ibn Yasar whether zakat was due from a man who had wealth in hand but also owed a debt for the same amount; and he replied; No. Malik said; The position that we are agreed upon concerning a debt is that the lender of it does not pay zakat on it until he gets it back. Even if it stays with the borrower for a number of years before the lender collects it; the lender only has to pay zakat on it once. If he collects an amount of the debt which is not zakatable; and has other wealth which is zakatable; then what he has collected of the debt is added to the rest of his wealth and he pays zakat on the total sum. Malik continued; If he has no ready money other than that which he has collected from his debt; and that does not reach a zakatable amount; then he does not have to pay any zakat. He must; however; keep a record of the amount that he has collected and if; later; he collects another amount which; when added to what he has already collected; brings zakat into effect; then he has to pay zakat on it. Malik continued; Zakat is due on this first amount; together with what he has further collected of the debt owed to him; regardless of whether or not he has used up what he first collected. If what he takes back reaches twenty dinars of gold; or two hundred dirhams of silver he pays zakat on it. He pays zakat on anything else he takes back afte rthat; whether it be a large or small amount; according to the amount. Malik said; What shows that zakat is only taken once from a debt which is out of hand for some years before it is recovered is that if goods remain with a man for trading purposes for some years before he sells them; he only has to pay zakat on their prices once. This is because the one who is owed the debt; or owns the goods; should not have to take the zakat on the debt; or the goods; from anything else; since the zakat on anything is only taken from the thing itself; and not from anything else. Malik said; Our position regarding some onewho owes a debt; and has goods which are worth enough to pay off the debt; and also has an amount of ready money which is zakatable; is that he pays the zakat on the ready money which he has to hand. If; however; he only has enough goods and ready money to pay off the debt; then he does not have to pay any zakat. But if the ready money that he has reaches a zakatable amount over and above the amount of the debt that he owes; then he must pay zakat on it.The Chapter on Debt And Creditors And Paying Zakat in HodHood Indexing, The Book of Itikaf in Ramadan in Muwata Malik

MuwataMalik-017-001-35902Yahya related to me from Malik that he had heard that Abdullah Ibn Abbas used to say; The least difficult thing acceptable as a sacrificial animal is a sheep. Malik said; That is what I like most out of what I have heard about the matter; because Allah; the Blessed and Exalted; says in His Book; O you who trust; do not kill game while you are in ihram. Whoever of you kills it intentionally; there shall be repayment the like of what he has slain; from livestock; as shall be judged by two men of justice among you; a sacrificial animal which will reach the Kaba; or food for poor people; or the equivalent of that in fasting; Surat 5 ayat 95 and a sheep is one of the animals which is judged to be acceptable as a sacrifice. Allah has called it a sacrificial animal; and there is no dispute among us about the matter. How; indeed; could anyone be in doubt about the matter? A sheep is the kaffara for anything which does not reach the extent of something for which a camel or a cow would be the kaffara; and the kaffara for something which does not reach the extent of something for which a sheep would be the kaffara is fasting; or feeding poor people. The Chapter on Live Stock Sheep For Food in HodHood Indexing, The Book of Business Transactions in Muwata Malik
