SahihMuslim-017-001-18103It has been reported on the authority of Hudbaifa Bin AlYaman who said: Nothing prevented me from being present at! he Battle of Badr except this incident. I came out with my father Husail to participate in the Battle ; but we were caught by the disbelievers of Quraish. They said: Do you intend to go to Muhammad? We said: We do not intend to go to him; but we wish to go back to Medina. So they took from us a covenant in the name of God that we would turn back to Medina and would not fight on the side of Muhammad ﷺ. So; we came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and related the incident to him. He said: Both; of you proceed to Medina ; we will fulfil the covenant made with them and seek God help against them. The Chapter on Assignments And Almadinah in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on 35 in Sahih Muslim
SahihMuslim-017-001-18610It is narrated on the authority of Ibn Shamasa Mahri that he said: We went to Amr Bin AlAs and he was about to die. He wept for a long time and turned his face towards the wall. His son said: Did the Messenger of Allah ﷺ not give you tidings of this? Did the Messenger of Allah ﷺ not give you tidings of this? He the narrator said: He turned his face towards the audience and said: The best thing which we can count upon is the testimony that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah. Verily I have passed through three phases. The first one in which I found myself averse to none else more than I was averse to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and there was no other desire stronger in me than the one that I should overpower him and kill him. Had I died in this state; I would have been definitely one of the denizens of Fire. When Allah instilled the love of Islam in my heart; I came to the Apostle ﷺ and said: Stretch out your right hand so that may pledge my allegiance to you. He stretched out his right hand; I withdrew my hand; He the Holy Prophet said: What has happened to you; O Amr? replied: I intend to lay down some condition. He asked: What condition do you intend to put forward? I said: should be granted pardon. He the Holy Prophet observed: Are you not aware of the fact that Islam wipes out all the previous misdeeds ? Verily migration wipes out all the previous misdeeds ; and verily the pilgrimage wipes out all the previous misdeeds. And then no one as or dear to me than the Messenger of Allah and none was more sublime in my eyes than he; Never could I; pluck courage to catch a full glimpse of his face due to its splendour. So if I am asked to describe his features; I cannot do that for I have not eyed him fully. Had I died in this state had every reason to hope that I would have bee among the dwellers of Paradise. Then we were responsible for certain things in the light of which I am unable to know what is in store for me. When I die; let neither female mourner nor fire accompany me. When you bury me; fill my grave well with earth; then stand around it for the time within which a camel is slaughtered and its meat is distributed so that I may enjoy your intimacy and in your company ascertain what answer I can give to the messengers angels of Allah. The Chapter on Love And Emotions Supplications in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on 54 in Sahih Muslim

SahihMuslim-017-001-19021AlBara Bin Azib reported that Abu Bakr AlSiddiq came to the residence of my father Azib and bought a haudaj from him and said to Azib: Send your son to my residence to carry this haudaj ; and my father said to me: Carry it for him. So I carried it and there went along with him with Abu Bakr my father in order to fetch its price and he Azib said to Abu Bakr: Abu Bakr; narrate to me what you both did on the night when you set out on a journey along with Allah Messenger ﷺ. He said: We set out during the night and went on walking until it was noon; and the path was vacant and so none passed by that until there appeared prominently before us a large rock. It had its shade and the rays of the sun did not reach that place. So we got down at that place. I then went to the rock and levelled the ground with my hands at the place where the Prophet ﷺ would take rest under its shade. I then set the bedding and said: Allah Messenger; go to sleep and I shall keep a watch around you. I went out and watched around him. There we saw a shepherd moving towards that rock with his flock and he intended what we intended i. e. taking rest. I met him and said to him: Young boy; to which place do you belong? He said: I am a person from Medina. I said; is there any milk in the udders of your sheep and goats? He said: Yes. He took hold of a goat; and I said to him: Clean the udder well so that it should be free from hair; dust and impurity. I saw AlBara striking his hand upon the other to give an indication how he did that. He milked the goat for me in a wooden cup which he had with him and I had with me a bucket in which I kept water for drinking and for performing ablution. I came to Allah Apostle ﷺ and did not like to awaken him from sleep but he was accidentally startled from the sleep. I poured water upon the milk till It was cold and I said: Allah Messenger; take this milk. He then took It and I was delighted and he the Holy Prophet said: Is now not the time to march on? I said: Of course. So he marched on after the sun had passed the meridian and Suraqa Bin Malik pursued us and we had been walking on soft; level ground. I said: Allah Messenger; we are about to be overtaken by them. Thereupon he said: Be not grieved. Verily; Allah is with us. Then Allah Messenger ﷺ cursed him and his horse sank into the earth. I think he also said: I know you have hurled curse upon me. So supplicate Allah for me and I take an oath that I shall turn everyone away who would come in search of you. So he Allah Messenger supplicated Allah and he was rescued and he came back and to everyone he met; he said: I have combed all this side. In short; he diverted everyone whom he met and he in fact fulfilled his promise. The Chapter on Milk in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on 19 in Sahih Muslim
SahihMuslim-017-001-19122Ahnaf Bin Qais reported: I set out with the intention of helping this person Hadrat Ali when Abu Bakra met me. He said: Ahnaf; where do you intend to go? I said: I intend to help the cousin of Allah Messenger ﷺ ; viz. Ali. Thereupon he said to me: Ahnaf; go back; for I heard Allah Messenger ﷺ as saying: When two Muslims confront one another with swords in hand both the slayer and the slain would be in Fire. He Ahnaf said: I said; or it was said: Allah Messenger; it may be the case of one who kills. but what about the slain why he would be put in Hell-Fire ? Thereupon he said: He also intended to kill his companion. The Chapter on Murder In Crimes And Felonies in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on 4 in Sahih Muslim
SahihMuslim-017-001-19244Abu Saeed AlKhudri reported Allah Messenger ﷺ as saying: The Dajjal would come forth and a person from amongst the believers would go towards him and the armed men of the Dajjal would meet him and they would say to him: Where do you intend to go? He would say: I intend to go to this one who is coming forth. They would say to him: Dont you believe in our Lord? He would say: There is nothing hidden about our Lord. They would say: Kill him. Then some amongst them would say: Has your master Dajjal not forbidden you to kill anyone without his consent ? And so they would take him to the Dajjal and when the believer would see him; he would say: O people. he is the Dajjil about whom Allah Messenger ﷺ has informed us. The Dajjal would then order for breaking his head and utter these words : Catch hold of him and break his head. He would be struck even on his back and on his stomach. Then the Dajjal would ask him: Dont you believe in me? He would say: You are a false Masih. He would then order him to be torn into pieces with a saw from the parting of his hair up to his legs. After that the Dajjal would walk between the two pieces. He would then say to him: Stand; and he would stand erect. He would then say to him: Dont you believe in me? And the person would say: It has only added to my insight concerning you that you are really the Dajjal. He would then say: O people; he would not behave with anyone amongst people in such a manner after me. The Dajjal would try to catch hold of him so that he should kill him again. The space between his neck and collar bone would be turned into copper and he would find no means to kill him. So he would catch hold of him by his hand and feet and throw him into the air and the people would think as if he had been thrown in the Hell-Fire whereas he would be thrown in Paradise. Nothing was more burdensome for me than looking after the horse I used to bring grass for it and looked after it; then I got a servant as Allah Apustle ﷺ had some prisoners of war in his possession. He gave me a female servant. She the female servant then began to look after the horse and thus relieved me of this burden. A person came and he said: Mother of Abdullah; I am a destitute person and I intend that I should start business under the shadow of your house. I Asma said: If I grant you permission; AlZubair may not agree to that; so you come and make a demand of it when AlZubair is also present there. He came accordingly find said: Mother of Abdullah. I am a destitute person. I intend to start t mall business in the shadow of your house. I said: Is there not in Medina any place for starting the business except my house? AlZubair said: Why is it that you prohibit the destitute man to start business here? SahihMuslim-017-001-21517Abdullah Bin Abbas Allah be pleased with tlicm reported: I intended to ask Umar Bin AlKhattab Allah be pleased with him about a verse; but I waited for one year to ask him out of his fear; until he went out for Pilgrimage and I also accompanied him. As he came back and we were on the way he stepped Aasi de towards an Arak tree to ease himself. I waited for him until he was free. I then walked along with him and said: Commander of the Faithful; who are the two among the wives of Allah Messenger ﷺ who backed up one another in their demand for extra money ? He said: They were Hafsa and Aisha Allah be pleased with them. I said to him: It is for one year that I intended to ask you about this matter but I could not date so on account of the awe for you. He said: Dont do that. If you think that I have any knowledge; do ask me about that. And if I were to know that; I would inform you. He the narrator stated that Umar had said: By Allah; during the days of ignorance we had no regard for women until Allah the Exalt- ed revealed about them what He has revealed; and appointed turn for them what he appointed. He said: It so happened that I was thinking about some matter that my wife said: I wish you had done that and that. I said to her: It does not concern you and you should not feel disturbed in a matter which I intend to do. She said to me: How strange is it that you; O son of AlKhattab; do not like anyone to retort upon you; whereas your daughter retorts upon Allah Messenger may peace be upou him until he spends the day in vexation. Umar said: I took hold of my cloak; then came out of my house until I visited Hafsa and said to her: O daughter; I heard that you retort upon Allah Messenger ﷺ until he spends the day in vexation; whereupon Hafsa said: By Allah; we do retort upon him. I said: You should bear in mind; my daughter; that I warn you against the punishment of Allah and the wrath of His Messenger ﷺ. You may not be misled by one whose beauty has fascinated her; and the love of Allah Messenger ﷺ for her. I Umar then visited Umm Salamah because of my relationship with her and I talked to her. Umm Salamah said to me: Umar Bin AlKhattab; how strange is it that you meddle with every matter so much so that you are anxious to interfere between Allah Messenger ﷺ and his wives; and this perturbed me so much that I refrained from saying what I had to say; so I came out of her apartment; and I had a friend from the Anar. When I had been absent from the company of the Holy Prophet he used to bring me the news and when he had been absent I used to bring him the news; and at that time we dreaded a king of Ghassan. It was mentioned to us that he intended to attack us; and our minds were haunted by him. My friend; the Ansari; came to me; and he knocked at the door and said: Open it; open it. I said: Has the Ghassani come? He said: The matter is more serious than that. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ has separated himself from his wives. I said: Let the nose of Hafsa and Aisha be besmeared with dust. I then took hold of my cloth and went out until I came and found Allah Messenger ﷺ in his attic to which he climbed by means of a ladder made of date-palm; and the servant of Allah Messenger ﷺ who was black had been sitting at the end of the ladder. I said: This is Umar. So permission was granted to me. I narrated this news to Allah Messenger ﷺ and as I narrated the news concerning Umm Salamah; Allah Messenger ﷺ smiled. He was lying on the mat and there was nothing between him and that mat ; and under his head there was a pillow made of leather and it was stuffed with plam fibres and at his feet were lying a heap of sant tree acacia niloctica; meant for dyeing and near his head there was hanging a hide. And I saw the marks of the maton the side of Allah Messenger ﷺ ; and so I wept. He said: What makes you weep? I said: Messenger of Allah; the Khusrau and the Ceasars spendd their lives in the midst of luxuries ; whereas you being Allah Messenger are leading your life in this poverty. Thereupon Allah Messenger ﷺ said: Dont you like that they should have riches of their world; and you have the Hereafter. The Chapter on Parents And Alhajj in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on 5 in Sahih Muslim

SahihMuslim-017-001-21879Jabir Bin Abdullah reported: The sun eclipsed on one extremely hot day during the lifetime of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed along with his Companions. He prolonged his qiyam standing posture in prayer till they his Companions began to fall down. He then observed a long ruku. He raised his head and stood up for long and then observed a long ruku. He then raised his head and stood up for a long time and then made two prostrations. He then stood up and did like this and thus he observed four ruku and four prostrations in two rakahs and then said: All these things were brought to me in which you will be made to enter. Paradise was brought to me till I was so close to it that if I had intended to pluck a bunch of grapes out of it. I would have got it; or he the Holy Prophet said: I intended to get a bunch out of that but my hand could not reach it. Hell was also brought to me and I saw in it a woman belonging to the tribe of Israel who was tormented for a cat whom she had tied; but did not give it food nor set it free to eat the creatures of the earth; and I saw Abu Thumama Amr Bin Malik who was dragging his intestines in Hell. They the Arabs used to say that the sun and the moon do not eclipse but on the death of some great person; but in reality both these the sun and the moon are among the signs of Allah which are shown to you; so when there is an eclipse; observe prayer till it the sun or the moon brightens. MuwataMalik-017-001-35008Yahya said that Malik spoke about an agent who had qirad money with him and he spent from it and clothed himself. He said; He cannot give away any of it; and neither a beggar nor anyone else is to be given any of it and he does not pay anyone compensation from it. If he meets some people; and they bring out food and he brings out food; I hope that that will be permitted to him if he does not intend to bestow something on them. If he intends that or what is like that without the permission of the investor; he must get the sanction of the investor for it. If he sanctions it; there is no harm. MuwataMalik-017-001-35189Yahya related to me from Malik that he had heard that Umar Ibn AlKhattab had heard in a letter from Iraq that a man said to his wife; Your rein is on your withers i.e. you have free rein. Umar Ibn AlKhattab wrote to his governor to order the man to come to him at Makka at the time of hajj. While Umar was doing tawaf around the House; a man met him and greeted him. Umar asked him who he was; and he replied that he was the man that he had ordered to be brought to him. Umar said to him; I ask you by the Lord of this building; what did you mean by your statement; Your rein is on your withers.? The man replied; Had you made me swear by other than this place; I would not have told you the truth. I intended separation by that. Umar Ibn AlKhattab said; It is what you intended. The Chapter on Assignments And Benefits in HodHood Indexing, The Book of Marriage in Muwata Malik
MuwataMalik-017-001-35191Yahya related to me from Malik from Nafi that Abdullah Ibn Umar said that statements like I cut myself off from you;orYou are abandoned; were considered as three pronouncements of divorce. Malik said that any strong statements such as these or others were considered as three pronouncements of divorce for a woman whose marriage had been consummated. In the case of a woman whose marriage had not been consummated; the man was asked to make an oath on his deen; as to whether he had intended one or three pronouncements of divorce. If he had intended one pronouncement; he was asked to make an oath by Allah to confirm it; and he became a suitor among other suitors; because a woman whose marriage had been consummated; required three pronouncements of divorce to make her inaccessible for the husband; whilst only one pronouncement was needed to make a woman whose marriage had not been consummated inaccessible. Malik added; That is the best of what I have heard about the matter. The Chapter on Adhan And Iqama Pronunciation in HodHood Indexing, The Book of Marriage in Muwata Malik
MuwataMalik-017-001-35393Yahya related to me from Malik that Yahya Ibn Said said; I vowed to walk; but I was struck by a pain in the kidney; so I rode until I came to Makka. I questioned Ata Ibn Abi Rabah and others; and they said; You must sacrifice an animal. When I came to Madina I questioned the ulama there; and they ordered me to walk again from the place from which I was unable to go on. So I walked. Yahya said that he had heard Malik say; What is done among us regarding someone who makes a vow to walk to the House of Allah; and then cannot do it and so rides; is that he must return and walk from the place from which he was unable to go on. If he cannot walk; he should walk what he can and then ride; and he must sacrifice a camel; a cow; or a sheep if that is all that he can find. Malik; when asked about a man who said to another; I will carry you to the House of Allah; answered; If he intended to carry him on his shoulder; by that he meant hardship and exhaustion to himself; and he does not have to do that. Let him walk by foot and make sacrifice. If he did not intend anything; let him do hajj and ride; and take the man on hajj with him. That is because he said; I will carry you to the house of Allah. If the man refuses to do hajj with him; then there is nothing against him; and what is demanded of him is cancelled. Yahya said that Malik was asked whether it was enough for a man who had made a vow that he would walk to the House of Allah a certain large number of times; or who had forbidden himself from talking to his father and brother; if he did not fulfil a certain vow; and he had taken upon himself; by the oath; something which he was incapable of fulfilling in his lifetime; even though he were to try every year; to fulfil only one or a smaller number of vows by Allah? Malik said; The only satisfaction for that that I know is fulfilling what he has obliged himself to do. Let him walk for as long as he is able and draw near Allah the Exalted by what he can of good. The Chapter on Hands And Obligations in HodHood Indexing, The Book of Jihad in Muwata Malik
MuwataMalik-017-001-35713Yahya related to me from Malik from Nafi from Ibn Umar that the Messenger of Allah; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; said; When you come to jumua; do ghusl. Malik said; It is not enough for someone to do a ghusl on the day of jumua and intend by it the ghusl for jumua unless he does the ghusl and then sets off. That is because the Messenger of Allah; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; said in the hadith related by Ibn Umar; When you come to jumua; do ghusl. Malik said; If someone does ghusl on the day of jumua and intends by it the ghusl of the day of jumua and then sets out; whether early or late; and does something which breaks his Ablution; he only has to do Ablution and his ghusl remains valid for him.The Chapter on Ablution And Cleanliness in HodHood Indexing, The Book of Hajj in Muwata Malik
MuwataMalik-017-001-35786Yahya related to me from Malik; from Yahya Ibn Said; from Muhammad Ibn Ibrahim Ibn AlHarith AlTaymi; that Rabia Ibn Abdullah Ibn AlHudayr once saw a man in a state of ihram in Iraq. So he asked people about him and they said; He has given directions for his sacrificial animal to be garlanded; and it is for that reason that he has put on ihram. Rabia said; I then met Abdullah Ibn AlZubair and so I mentioned this to him and he said; By the Lord of the Kaba; an innovation. Malik was asked about some one who set out with his own sacrificial animal and marked it and garlanded it at Dh AlHulayfa; but did not go into ihram until he had reached AlJuhfa;and hesaid; I do not like that; and whoever does so has not acted properly. He should only garland his sacrificial animal; or mark it; when he goes into ihram; unless it is someone who does not intend to do hajj; in which case he sends it off and stays with his family. Malik was asked if somone who was not in ihram could set out with a sacrificial animal; and he said; Yes. There is no harm in that. He was also asked to comment on the different views people had about what became haram for some one who garlanded a sacrificial animal but did not intend to do either hajj or umra; and he said; What we go by as far as this is concerned is what Aisha; umm Almuminin said; The Messenger of Allah; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; sent his sacrificial animal off and did not go there himself; and there was nothing that Allah had made halal for him that was haram for him until the animal had been sacrificed. The Chapter on Almadinah And Alhajj in HodHood Indexing, The Book of Hajj in Muwata Malik
MuwataMalik-017-001-36024Yahya related to me from Malik that Ibn Shihab used to say; When a man catches the raka he says; Allah is greater once; and that takbir is enough for him. Malik added; That is if he intended to begin the prayer by that takbir Malik was asked about a man who began with the imam but forgot the opening takbir and the takbir of the ruku until he had done one raka. Then he remembered that he had not said the takbir at the opening nor in the ruku;so he said the takbir in the second raka. He said; I prefer that he start his prayer again; but if he forgets the opening takbir with the imam and says the takbir in the first ruku; I consider that enough for him if he intends by it the opening takbir. Malik said; about some one who prayed by himself and forgot the opening takbir; He begins his prayer afresh. Malik said; about an imam who forgot the opening takbir until he had finished his prayer; I think that he should do the prayer again; and those behind him; even if they have said the takbir. The Chapter on Tashahhud And Bowing in HodHood Indexing, The Book of Fasting in Muwata Malik
MuwataMalik-017-001-36109Yahya related to me from Malik from Nuaym Ibn Abdullah AlMadani AlMujmir that he heard Abu Huraira say; If someone does Ablution and does it correctly and then goes off intending to do the prayer; then he is in prayer as long as he intends to do the prayer. A good action is written for every alternate step he makes and a wrong action is erased for the second. When you hear the iqama do not lengthen your stride; and the one who has the greatest reward is the one whose house is farthest away. They said; Why; Abu Huraira? He replied; Because of the greater number of steps. The Chapter on Assignments And Rewards in HodHood Indexing, The Book of Burials in Muwata Malik
