Enter not the Prophet's houses, - until leave is given you, - for a meal, (and then) not (so early as) to wait for its preparation: but when ye are invited, enter; and when ye have taken your meal, disperse, without seeking familiar talk. Such (behaviour) annoys the Prophet: he is ashamed to dismiss you, but Allah is not ashamed (to tell you) the truth. And when ye ask (his ladies) for anything ye want, ask them from before a screen: that makes for greater purity for your hearts and for theirs. Nor is it right for you that ye should annoy Allah's Messenger, or that ye should marry his widows after him at any time. Truly such a thing is in Allah's sight an enormity.

SahihAlBukhari-017-001-1415Narrated Jabir Bin Abdullah: Some angels came to the Prophet ﷺ while he was sleeping. Some of them said; He is sleeping. Others said; His eyes are sleeping but his heart is awake. Then they said; There is an example for this companion of yours. One of them said; Then set forth an example for him. Some of them said; He is sleeping. The others said; His eyes are sleeping but his heart is awake. Then they said; His example is that of a man who has built a house and then offered therein a banquet and sent an inviter messenger to invite the people. So whoever accepted the invitation of the inviter; entered the house and ate of the banquet; and whoever did not accept the invitation of the inviter; did not enter the house; nor did he eat of the banquet. Then the angels said; Interpret this example to him so that he may understand it. Some of them said; He is sleeping. The others said; His eyes are sleeping but his heart is awake. And then they said; The houses stands for Paradise and the call maker is Muhammad; and whoever obeys Muhammad; obeys Allah; and whoever disobeys Muhammad; disobeys Allah. He said to his slave ; Prepare a meal to which I may invite Allah Messenger ﷺ along with four other men. So he invited Allah Messenger ﷺ and four other men; but another man followed them whereupon the Prophet ﷺ said; You have invited me as one of five guests; but now another man has followed us. If you wish you can admit him; and if you wish you can refuse him. On that the host said; But I admit him. He came to the Prophet ﷺ while he was sitting with his companions and noticed the signs of hunger on the face of the Prophet ﷺ. So he went to his butcher slave and said; Prepare for me a meal sufficient for five persons so that I may invite the Prophet ﷺ along with four other men. He had the meal prepared for him and invited him. A sixth man followed them. The Prophet ﷺ said; O Abu Shuaib! Another man has followed us. If you wish; you may invite him; and if you wish; you may refuse him. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-3552Narrated Anas Bin Malik: Whenever the Prophet ﷺ passed by my mother Um-Sulaim he used to enter her and greet her. Anas further said: Once the Prophet ﷺ way a bridegroom during his marriage with Zainab; Um Sulaim said to me; Let us give a gift to Allah Messenger ﷺ. I said to her; Do it. So she prepared Haisa a sweet dish made from dates; butter and dried yoghurt and she sent it with me to him. I took it to him and he said; Put it down; and ordered me to call some men whom he named; and to invite whomever I would meet. I did what he ordered me to do; and when I returned; I found the house crowded with people and saw the Prophet ﷺ keeping his hand over the Haisa and saying over it whatever Allah wished him to say. Then he called the men in batches of ten to eat of it; and he said to them; Mention the Name of Allah; and each man should eat of the dish the nearest to him. When all of them had finished their meals; some of them left and a few remained there talking; over which I felt unhappy. Then the Prophet ﷺ went out towards the dwelling places of his wives and I too; went out after him and told him that those people had left. Then he returned and entered his dwelling place and let the curtains fall while I was in his dwelling place; and he was reciting the Verses:- O you who believe! Enter not the Prophet house until leave is given you for a meal; and then not as early as to what for its preparation. But when you are invited; enter; and when you have taken your meals; disperse without sitting for a talk. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-3953Narrated Hudhaifa Bin AlYaman: The people used to ask Allah Messenger ﷺ about good; but I used to ask him about evil for fear that it might overtake me. Once I said; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! We were in ignorance and in evil and Allah has bestowed upon us the present good; will there by any evil after this good? He said; Yes. I asked; Will there be good after that evil? He said; Yes; but it would be tained with Dakhan i.e. Little evil. I asked; What will its Dakhan be? He said; There will be some people who will lead people according to principles other than my tradition. You will see their actions and disapprove of them. I said; Will there by any evil after that good? He said; Yes; there will be some people who will invite others to the doors of Hell; and whoever accepts their invitation to it will be thrown in it by them. I said; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! Describe those people to us. He said; They will belong to us and speak our language I asked; What do you order me to do if such a thing should take place in my life? He said; Adhere to the group of Muslims and their Chief. I asked; If there is neither a group of Muslims nor a chief what shall I do ? So I kept on inviting the people till I found nobody to invite. Then I said; O Allah Prophet! I do not find anybody to invite. He said; Carry away the remaining food. Then a batch of three persons stayed in the house chatting. The Prophet ﷺ left and went towards the dwelling place of Aisha and said; Peace and Allah Mercy be on you; O the people of the house! She replied; Peace and the mercy of Allah be on you too. How did you find your wife? May Allah bless you. Then he went to the dwelling places of all his other wives and said to them the same as he said to Aisha and they said to him the same as Aisha had said to him. Then the Prophet ﷺ returned and found a group of three persons still in the house chatting. The Prophet was a very shy person; so he went out for the second time and went towards the dwelling place of Aisha. I do not remember whether I informed him that the people have gone away. SahihMuslim-017-001-17985It has been reported from Sulaiman Bin Buraida through his father that when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ appointed anyone as leader of an army or detachment he would especially exhort him to fear Allah and to be good to the Muslims who were with him. He would say: Fight in the name of Allah and in the way of Allah. Fight against those who disbelieve in Allah. Make a holy war; do not embezzle the spoils; do not break your pledge; and do not mutilate the dead bodies; do not kill the children. When you meet your enemies who are polytheists; invite them to three courses of action. If they respond to any one of these; you also accept it and withhold yourself from doing them any harm. Invite them to accept Islam; if they respond to you; accept it from them and desist from fighting against them. Then invite them to migrate from their lands to the land of the Muhajireen and inform them that; if they do so; they shall have all the privileges and obligations of the Muhajireen. If they refuse to migrate; tell them that they will have the status of Bedouin Muslims and will be subjected to the Commands of Allah like other Muslims; but they will not get any share from the spoils of war or Fai except when they actually fight with the Muslims against the disbelievers. If they refuse to accept Islam; demand from them the Jizya. If they agree to pay; accept it from them and hold off your hands. If they refuse to pay the tax; seek Allah help and fight them. When you lay siege to a fort and the besieged appeal to you for protection in the name of Allah and His Prophet; do not accord to them the guarantee of Allah and His Prophet; but accord to them your own guarantee and the guarantee of your companions for it is a lesser sin that the security given by you or your companions be disregarded than that the security granted in the name of Allah and His Prophet be violated. SahihMuslim-017-001-18086It has been narrated by Abdullah Bin Rabah from Abu Huraira; who said: Many deputations came to Muawiya. This was in the month of Ramadan. We would prepare food for one another. Abu Huraira was one of those who frequently invited us to his house. I said: Should I not prepare food and invite them to my place? So I ordered meals to be prepared Then I met Abu Huraira in the evening and said: You will have your meals with me tonight. He said: You have forestalled me. I said: Yes; and invited them. When they had finished with the meals Abu Huraira said: Should I not tell yon a tradition from your traditions; O ye assembly of the Ansar? He then gave an account of the Conquest of Mecca and said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ advanced until he reached Mecca. He deputed AlZubair on his right flank and Khalid on the left; and he despatched Abu Ubaida with the force that had no armour. They advanced to the interior of the valley. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was in the midst of a large contingent of fighters. He saw me and said: Abu Huraira. I said: I am here at your call; Messenger of Allah I He said: Let no one come to me except the Ansar; so call to me the Ansar only. Abu Huraira continued: So they gathered round him. The Quraish also gathered their ruffians and their lowly followers; and said: We send these forward. If they get anything; we shall be with them to share it ; and if misfortune befalls them; we shall pay as compensation whatever we are asked for. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to the Ansar : You see the ruffians and the lowly followers of the Quraish. And he indicated by striking one of his hands over the other that they should be killed and said: Meet me at AlSafa. Then we went on and if any one of us wanted that a certain person should be killed; he was killed; and none could offer any resistance. Abu Huraira continued: Then came Abu Sufyan and said: Messenger of Allah; the blood of the Quraish has become very cheap. There will be no Quraish from this day on. Then he the Holy Prophet said: Who enters the house of Abu Sufyan; he will be safe. Some of the Ansar whispered among themselves: After all ; love for his city and tenderness towards his relations have overpowered him. Abu Huraira said: At this moment revelation came to the Prophet ﷺ and when he was going to receive the Revelation; we understood it; and when he was actually receiving it; none of us would dare raise his eyes to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ until the revelation came to an end. When the revelation came to an end; the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: O ye Assembly of the Ansar! They said: Here we are at your disposal; Messenger of Allah. He said: You were saying that love for his city and tenderness towards his people have overpowered this man. They said: So it was. He said: No; never. I am a bondman of God and His Messenger. I migrated towards God and towards you. I will live with you and will die with you. So; they the Ansar turned towards him in tears and they were saying: By Allah; we said what we said because of our tenacious attachment to Allah and His Messenger. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Surely; Allah and His Messenger testify to your assertions and accept your apology. The narrator continued: People turned to the house of Abu Sufyan and people locked their doors. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ proceeded until he approached the Black Stone. He kissed it and circumambulated the Kaba. He reached near an idol by the side of the Kaba which was worshipped by the people. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ had a bow in his hand; and he was holding it from a corner. When he came near the idol; he began to pierce its eyes with the bow and while doing so was saying: Truth has been established and falsehood has perished. I invited her today but she said to me something which I did not like. Kindly supplicate Allah that He may set the mother of Abu Huraira right. She took a bath and put on the shirt and quickly covered her head with a headdress and opened the door and then said: Abu Huraira; I bear witness to the fact that there is no god but Allah and Muhammad is His bondsman and His Messenger. He Abu Huraira said: I went back to Allah Messenger ﷺ and this time I was shedding the tears of joy. I said: Allah Messenger; be happy; for Allah has responded to your supplication and He has set on the right path the mother of Abu Huraira. He the Holy Prophet praised Allah; and extolled Him and uttered good words. I said: Allah Messenger; supplicate to Allah so that He may instill love of mine and that of my mother too in the believing servants and let our hearts be filled with their love; whereupon Allah Messenger ﷺ said: O Allah; let there be love of these servants of yours; i.e. Abu Huraira and his mother; in the hearts of the believing servants and let their hearts be filled with the love of the believing servants. I said to him: My mother sent this to you; and she conveys her Salam; and says: This is a little something from us for you. He said: Put it down. Then he said: Go and invite so-and-so; so-and-so; and so-and-so for me; and whomever you meet. He named some people; and said: I invited those he named; and whomever I met. - He AlJad said: I said to Anas: How many of you were there? He said: Roughly about three-hundred. - He Anas said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to me: O Anas! Bring me the Tawr. He said: They entered until the Suffah a shaded part of the Masjid in AlMadinah and the apartment were full. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Let groups of ten in; and let each person eat what is near him. He said: They ate until they were full. He said: A group exited; and another group entered; until all of them ate. He said: He said to me: O Anas! Remove it. He said: So I took it. I could not tell if there was more when I first put it down; or when I picked it up. He said: Groups of them sat talking in the house of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ; while the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and his wife sat facing the wall. They began to be burdensome on the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ; so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out to greet his women folk; then he returned; they realized that they had overburdened him; so they hastened for the gate and all of them exited. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came until he lowered the curtain; and entered while I was sitting in the apartment. He did not remain there long before he left me; and these Ayat were revealed. So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out to recite them to the people: O you who believe! Do not enter the Prophet house unless permission is given to you for a meal; not to wait for its preparation. But when you are invited; enter; and when you have taken your meals; dispense without sitting for a talk. He said: Go to the people of AlSuffah to invite them. - Now; they were the guests of the people of Islam; they had nothing of people nor wealth to rely upon. Whenever some charity was brought to him; he would send it to them without using any of it. And when a gift was given to him s.a.w ; he would send for them to participate and share with him in it. I became upset about that; and I said to myself : What good will this bowl be among the people of AlSuffah and I am the one bringing it to them? Then he ordered me to circulate it among them So I wondered what of it would reach me from it; and I hoped that I would get from it what would satisfy me. But I would certainly not neglect to obey Allah and obey His Messenger; so I went to them and invited them. When they entered upon him they sat down. So I gave it to a man who drank his fill; then he gave it to another one; until it ended up with the Messenger of Allah s.a.w ; and all of the people had drank their fill. The Messenger of Allah s.a.w took the bowl; put it on his hand;then raised his head. He smiled and said: Abu Huraira; drink. So I drank; then he said: Drink. I kept drinking and he kept on saying; Drink. Then I said: By the One Who sent you with the truth! I have no more space for it. So he took the bowl and praised Allah; mentioned His Name and drank.
