SahihAlBukhari-017-001-1302Narrated AlMiswar Bin Makhrama: The group of people whom Umar had selected as candidates for the Caliphate gathered and consulted each other. Abdulrahman said to them; I am not going to compete with you in this matter; but if you wish; I would select for you a caliph from among you. So all of them agreed to let Abdulrahman decide the case. So when the candidates placed the case in the hands of Abdulrahman the people went towards him and nobody followed the rest of the group nor obeyed any after him. So the people followed Abdulrahman and consulted him all those nights till there came the night we gave the oath of allegiance to Uthman. AlMiswar bin Makhrama added: Abdulrahman called on me after a portion of the night had passed and knocked on my door till I got up; and he said to me; I see you have been sleeping! By Allah; during the last three nights I have not slept enough. Go and call AlZubair and Sad. So I called them for him and he consulted them and then called me saying; Call Ali for me. I called Ali and he held a private talk with him till very late at night; and then Al; got up to leave having had much hope to be chosen as a Caliph but Abdulrahman was afraid of something concerning Ali. Abdulrahman then said to me; Call Uthman for me. I called him and he kept on speaking to him privately till the Muadh-dhin put an end to their talk by announcing the Adhan for the Fajr prayer. When the people finished their morning prayer and that six men group gathered near the pulpit; Abdulrahman sent for all the Muhajirin emigrants and the Ansar present there and sent for the army chief who had performed the Hajj with Umar that year. When all of them had gathered; Abdulrahman said; None has the right to be worshipped but Allah; and added; Now then; O Ali; I have looked at the people tendencies and noticed that they do not consider anybody equal to Uthman; so you should not incur blame by disagreeing. Then Abdulrahman said to Uthman ; I gave the oath of allegiance to you on condition that you will follow Allah Laws and the traditions of Allah Apostle and the traditions of the two Caliphs after him. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-1312Narrated AlQasim Bin Muhammad: Aisha said; O my head! Allah Messenger ﷺ said; If that i.e.; your death should happen while I am still alive; I would ask Allah to forgive you and would invoke Allah for you. Aisha said; O my life which is going to be lost! By Allah; I think that you wish for my death; and if that should happen then you would be busy enjoying the company of one of your wives in the last part of that day. The Prophet said; But I should say; O my head! I feel like calling Abu Bakr and his son and appoint the former as my successors lest people should say something or wish for something. Umar said; If I appoint a Caliph as my successor it is true that somebody who was better than I i.e.; Abu Bakr did so; and if I leave the matter undecided; it is true that somebody who was better than I i.e.; Allah Messenger ﷺ did so. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-1592Narrated Ibn Abbas: I used to teach the Quran to some people of the Muhajirln emigrants ; among whom there was Abdulrahman Bin Auf. While I was in his house at Mina; and he was with Umar Bin AlKhattab during Umar last Hajj; Abdulrahman came to me and said; Would that you had seen the man who came today to the Chief of the Believers Umar ; saying; O Chief of the Believers! What do you think about so-and-so who says; If Umar should die; I will give the pledge of allegiance to such-andsuch person; as by Allah; the pledge of allegiance to Abu Bakr was nothing but a prompt sudden action which got established afterwards. Umar became angry and then said; Allah willing; I will stand before the people tonight and warn them against those people who want to deprive the others of their rights the question of rulership. Abdulrahman said; I said; O Chief of the believers! Do not do that; for the season of Hajj gathers the riff-raff and the rubble; and it will be they who will gather around you when you stand to address the people. And I am afraid that you will get up and say something; and some people will spread your statement and may not say what you have actually said and may not understand its meaning; and may interpret it incorrectly; so you should wait till you reach Medina; as it is the place of emigration and the place of Prophet Traditions; and there you can come in touch with the learned and noble people; and tell them your ideas with confidence; and the learned people will understand your statement and put it in its proper place. On that; Umar said; By Allah! Allah willing; I will do this in the first speech I will deliver before the people in Medina. Ibn Abbas added: We reached Medina by the end of the month of Dhu AlHijja; and when it was Friday; we went quickly to the Masjid as soon as the sun had declined; and I saw Saeed Bin Zaid Bin Amr Bin Nufail sitting at the corner of the pulpit; and I too sat close to him so that my knee was touching his knee; and after a short while Umar Bin AlKhattab came out; and when I saw him coming towards us; I said to Saeed Bin Zaid Bin Amr Bin Nufail Today Umar will say such a thing as he has never said since he was chosen as Caliph. Saeed denied my statement with astonishment and said; What thing do you expect Umar to say the like of which he has never said before? In the meantime; Umar sat on the pulpit and when the callmakers for the prayer had finished their call; Umar stood up; and having glorified and praised Allah as He deserved; he said; Now then; I am going to tell you something which Allah has written for me to say. I do not know; perhaps it portends my death; so whoever understands and remembers it; must narrate it to the others wherever his mount takes him; but if somebody is afraid that he does not understand it; then it is unlawful for him to tell lies about me. Allah sent Muhammad with the Truth and revealed the Holy Book to him; and among what Allah revealed; was the Verse of the Rajam the stoning of married person male & female who commits illegal sexual intercourse; and we did recite this Verse and understood and memorized it. Allah Messenger ﷺ did carry out the punishment of stoning and so did we after him. I am afraid that after a long time has passed; somebody will say; By Allah; we do not find the Verse of the Rajam in Allah Book; and thus they will go astray by leaving an obligation which Allah has revealed. And the punishment of the Rajam is to be inflicted to any married person male & female ; who commits illegal sexual intercourse; if the required evidence is available or there is conception or confession. And then we used to recite among the Verses in Allah Book: O people! Do not claim to be the offspring of other than your fathers; as it is disbelief unthankfulness on your part that you claim to be the offspring of other than your real father. Then Allah Messenger ﷺ said; Do not praise me excessively as Jesus; son of Marry was praised; but call me Allah Slave and His Apostles. O people! I have been informed that a speaker amongst you says; By Allah; if Umar should die; I will give the pledge of allegiance to such-and-such person. One should not deceive oneself by saying that the pledge of allegiance given to Abu Bakr was given suddenly and it was successful. No doubt; it was like that; but Allah saved the people from its evil; and there is none among you who has the qualities of Abu Bakr. Remember that whoever gives the pledge of allegiance to anybody among you without consulting the other Muslims; neither that person; nor the person to whom the pledge of allegiance was given; are to be supported; lest they both should be killed. And no doubt after the death of the Prophet ﷺ we were informed that the Ansar disagreed with us and gathered in the shed of Bani Sada. Ali and AlZubair and whoever was with them; opposed us; while the emigrants gathered with Abu Bakr. I said to Abu Bakr; Let go to these Ansari brothers of ours. So we set out seeking them; and when we approached them; two pious men of theirs met us and informed us of the final decision of the Ansar; and said; O group of Muhajirin emigrants ! Where are you going? We replied; We are going to these Ansari brothers of ours. They said to us; You shouldnt go near them. Carry out whatever we have already decided. I said; By Allah; we will go to them. And so we proceeded until we reached them at the shed of Bani Sada. Behold! There was a man sitting amongst them and wrapped in something. I asked; Who is that man? They said; He is Saad Bin Ubada. I asked; What is wrong with him? They said; He is sick. After we sat for a while; the Ansar speaker said; None has the right to be worshipped but Allah; and praising Allah as He deserved; he added; To proceed; we are Allah Ansar helpers and the majority of the Muslim army; while you; the emigrants; are a small group and some people among you came with the intention of preventing us from practicing this matter of caliphate and depriving us of it. When the speaker had finished; I intended to speak as I had prepared a speech which I liked and which I wanted to deliver in the presence of Abu Bakr; and I used to avoid provoking him. So; when I wanted to speak; Abu Bakr said; Wait a while. I disliked to make him angry. So Abu Bakr himself gave a speech; and he was wiser and more patient than I. By Allah; he never missed a sentence that I liked in my own prepared speech; but he said the like of it or better than it spontaneously. After a pause he said; O Ansar! You deserve all the qualities that you have attributed to yourselves; but this question of Caliphate is only for the Quraish as they are the best of the Arabs as regards descent and home; and I am pleased to suggest that you choose either of these two men; so take the oath of allegiance to either of them as you wish. And then Abu Bakr held my hand and Abu Ubaida Bin AlJarrah hand who was sitting amongst us. I hated nothing of what he had said except that proposal; for by Allah; I would rather have my neck chopped off as expiator for a sin than become the ruler of a nation; one of whose members is Abu Bakr; unless at the time of my death my own-self suggests something I dont feel at present. And then one of the Ansar said; I am the pillar on which the camel with a skin disease eczema rubs itself to satisfy the itching i.e.; I am a noble ; and I am as a high class palm tree! O Quraish. There should be one ruler from us and one from you. Then there was a hue and cry among the gathering and their voices rose so that I was afraid there might be great disagreement; so I said; O Abu Bakr! Hold your hand out. He held his hand out and I pledged allegiance to him; and then all the emigrants gave the Pledge of allegiance and so did the Ansar afterwards. And so we became victorious over Saad Bin Ubada whom AlAnsar wanted to make a ruler. One of the Ansar said; You have killed Saad Bin Ubada. I replied; Allah has killed Saad Bin Ubada. Umar added; By Allah; apart from the great tragedy that had happened to us i.e. the death of the Prophet ; there was no greater problem than the allegiance pledged to Abu Bakr because we were afraid that if we left the people; they might give the Pledge of allegiance after us to one of their men; in which case we would have given them our consent for something against our real wish; or would have opposed them and caused great trouble. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-327Narrated Amr Bin Maimun AlAudi: I saw Umar Bin AlKhattab when he was stabbed saying; O Abdullah Bin Umar! Go to the mother of the believers Aisha and say; Umar Bin AlKhattab sends his greetings to you; and request her to allow me to be buried with my companions. So; Ibn Umar conveyed the message to Aisha. She said; I had the idea of having this place for myself but today I prefer him Umar to myself and allow him to be buried there. When Abdullah Bin Umar returned; Umar asked him; What news do you have? He replied; O chief of the believers! She has allowed you to be buried there. On that Umar said; Nothing was more important to me than to be buried in that sacred place. So; when I expire; carry me there and pay my greetings to her Aisha and say; Umar Bin AlKhattab asks permission; and if she gives permission; then bury me there and if she does not; then take me to the graveyard of the Muslims. I do not think any person has more right for the caliphate than those with whom Allah Messenger ﷺ ﷺ was always pleased till his death. And whoever is chosen by the people after me will be the caliph; and you people must listen to him and obey him; and then he mentioned the name of Uthman; Ali; Talha ; AlZubair; Abdulrahman Bin Auf and Saad Bin Abi Waqqas. By this time a young man from Ansar came and said; O chief of the believers! Be happy with Allah glad tidings. The grade which you have in Islam is known to you; then you became the caliph and you ruled with justice and then you have been awarded martyrdom after all this. Umar replied; O son of my brother! Would that all that privileges will counterbalance my short comings ; so that I neither lose nor gain anything. I recommend my successor to be good to the early emigrants and realize their rights and to protect their honor and sacred things. And I also recommend him to be good to the Ansar who before them; had homes in Medina and had adopted the Faith. He should accept the good of the righteous among them and should excuse their wrongdoers. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-3735Narrated Ubaidullah Bin Adi Bin AlKhiyar: That AlMiswar Bin Makhrama and Abdulrahman Bin AlAswad Bin Abu Yaghuth had said to him; What prevents you from speaking to your uncle Uthman regarding his brother AlWalid Bin Uqba? The people were speaking against the latter for what he had done. Ubaidullah said; So I kept waiting for Uthman; and when he went out for the prayer; I said to him; I have got something to say to you as a piece of advice. Uthman said; O man! I seek Refuge with Allah from you. So I went away. When I finished my prayer; I sat with AlMiswar and Ibn Abu Yaghutb and talked to both of them of what I had said to Uthman and what he had said to me. They said; You have done your duty. So while I was sitting with them. Uthman Messenger came to me. They said; Allah has put you to trial. I set out and when I reached Uthman; he said; What is your advice which you mentioned a while ago? I recited Tashahhud and added; Allah has sent Muhammad and has revealed the Holy Book i.e. Quran to him. You O Uthman! were amongst those who responded to the call of Allah and His Apostle and had faith in him. And you took part in the first two migrations to Ethiopia and to Medina ; and you enjoyed the company of Allah Messenger ﷺ and learned his traditions and advice. Now the people are talking much about AlWalid Bin Uqba and so it is your duty to impose on him the legal punishment. Uthman then said to me; O my nephew! Did you ever meet Allah Messenger ﷺ ? I said; No; but his knowledge has reached me as it has reached the virgin in her seclusion. Uthman then recited Tashahhud and said; No doubt; Allah has sent Muhammad with the Truth and has revealed to him His Holy Book i.e. Quran and I was amongst those who responded to the call of Allah and His Apostle and I had faith in Muhammad Mission; and I had performed the first two migrations as you have said; and I enjoyed the company of Allah Messenger ﷺ and gave the pledge of allegiance to him. By Allah; I never disobeyed him and never cheated him till Allah caused him to die. Then Allah made Abu Bakr Caliph; and by Allah; I was never disobedient to him; nor did I cheat him. Then Umar became Caliph; and by Allah; I was never disobedient to him; nor did I cheat him. Then I became Caliph. Have I not then the same rights over you as they had over me? I replied in the affirmative. Uthman further said; The what are these talks which are reaching me from you? As for what you ha mentioned about AlWalid Bin Uqb; Allah willing; I shall give him the leg; punishment justly. Then Uthman ordered that AlWalid be flogged fort lashes. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-4042Narrated Urwa Bin AlZubair: Hakim Bin Hizam said; I asked Allah Messenger ﷺ for something; and he gave me. I asked him again; and he gave me; and said to me. O Hakim! This wealth is like green sweet i.e. fruit ; and if one takes it without greed; then one is blessed in it; and if one takes it with greediness; then one is not blessed in it; and will be like the one who eats without satisfaction. And an upper i.e. giving hand is better than a lower i.e. taking hand; I said; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! By Him Who has sent you with the Truth. I will not ask anyone for anything after you till I leave this world. So; when Abu Bakr during his Caliphate; called Hakim to give him some money ; Hakim refused to accept anything from him. Once Umar called him during his Caliphate in order to give him something; but Hakim refused to accept it; whereupon Umar said; O Muslims! I give him i.e. Hakim his right which Allah has assigned to him from this Fai booty ; but he refuses to take it. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-4244Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet ﷺ said; The Israelis used to be ruled and guided by prophets: Whenever a prophet died; another would take over his place. So they started measuring their hands with a stick and Sauda hand turned out to be the longest. When Zainab bint Jahsh died first of all in the caliphate of Umar ; we came to know that the long hand was a symbol of practicing charity; so she was the first to follow the Prophet ﷺ and she used to love to practice charity. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-5973Narrated Urwa Bin AlZubair and Saeed Bin AlMusaiyab: Hakim Bin Hizam said; Once I asked Allah Messenger ﷺ for something and he gave it to me. Again I asked and he gave it to me. Again I asked and he gave it to me. And then he said; O Hakim! This property is like a sweet fresh fruit; whoever takes it without greediness; he is blessed in it; and whoever takes it with greediness; he is not blessed in it; and he is like a person who eats but is never satisfied; and the upper giving hand is better than the lower receiving hand. Hakim added; I said to Allah Messenger ﷺ ; By Him Allah Who sent you with the Truth; I shall never accept anything from anybody after you; till I leave this world. Then Abu Bakr during his caliphate called Hakim to give him his share from the war booty like the other companions of the Prophet ﷺ ; he refused to accept anything. Then Umar during his caliphate called him to give him his share but he refused. On that Umar said; O Muslims! I would like you to witness that I offered Hakim his share from this booty and he refused to take it. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-6456Narrated Ikrima Bin Khalid: Ibn Umar said; I went to Hafsa while water was dribbling from her twined braids. I said; The condition of the people is as you see; and no authority has been given to me. Hafsa said; to me ; Go to them; and as they i.e. the people are waiting for you; and I am afraid your absence from them will produce division amongst them. So Hafsa did not leave Ibn Umar till we went to them. When the people differed. Muawiya addressed the people saying; If anybody wants to say anything in this matter of the Caliphate; he should show up and not conceal himself; for we are more rightful to be a Caliph than he and his father. On that; Habib Bin Masalama said to Ibn Umar ; Why dont you reply to him i.e. Muawiya ? Abdullah Bin Umar said; I untied my garment that was going round my back and legs while I was sitting and was about to say; He who fought against you and against your father for the sake of Islam; is more rightful to be a Caliph; but I was afraid that my statement might produce differences amongst the people and cause bloodshed; and my statement might be interpreted not as I intended. So I kept quiet remembering what Allah has prepared in the Gardens of Paradise for those who are patient and prefer the Hereafter to this worldly life. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-6771Narrated Abdullah Bin Abbas: Ali Bin Abu Talib came out of the house of Allah Messenger ﷺ during his fatal illness. The people asked; O AbuHassan i.e. Ali ! How is the health of Allah Messenger ﷺ this morning? Ali replied; He has recovered with the Grace of Allah. Abbas Bin Abdul Muttalib held him by the hand and said to him; In three days you; by Allah; will be ruled by somebody else ; And by Allah; I feel that Allah Apostle will die from this ailment of his; for I know how the faces of the offspring of Abdul Muttalib look at the time of their death. So let us go to Allah Messenger ﷺ and ask him who will take over the Caliphate. If it is given to us we will know as to it; and if it is given to somebody else; we will inform him so that he may tell the new ruler to take care of us. Ali said; By Allah; if we asked Allah Apostle for it i.e. the Caliphate and he denied it us; the people will never give it to us after that. SahihMuslim-017-001-17759It has been narrated on the authority of Abdulrahman Bin Abd Rabb AlKaba who said: I entered the Masjid when Abdullah Bin Amr Bin AlAs was sitting in the shade of the Kaba and the people had gathered around him. I betook myself to them and sat near him. Now Abdullah said: I accompanied the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on a journey. We halted at a place. Some of us began to set right their tents; others began to compete with one another in shooting; and others began to graze their beasts; when an announcer of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ announced that the people should gather together for prayer; so we gathered around the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He said: It was the duty of every Prophet that has gone before me to guide his followers to what he knew was good for them and warn them against what he knew was bad for them; but this Umma of yours has its days of peace and security in the beginning of its career; and in the last phase of its existence it will be afflicted with trials and with things disagreeable to you. In this phase of the Umma ; there will be tremendous trials one after the other; each making the previous one dwindle into insignificance. When they would be afflicted with a trial; the believer would say: This is going to bring about my destruction. When at the trial is over; they would be afflicted with another trial; and the believer would say: This surely is going to be my end. Whoever wishes to be delivered from the fire and enter the garden should die with faith in Allah and the Last Day and should treat the people as he wishes to be treated by them. He who swears allegiance to a Caliph should give him the piedge of his hand and the sincerity of his heart i. e. submit to him both outwardly as well as inwardly. He should obey him to the best of his capacity. It another man comes forward as a claimant to Caliphate ; disputing his authority; they the Muslims should behead the latter. The narrator says: I came close to him Abdullah Bin Amr Bin AlAs and said to him: Can you say on oath that you heard it from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ? He pointed with his hands to his ears and his heart and said: My ears heard it and my mind retained it. I said to him: This cousin of yours; Muawiya; orders us to unjustly consume our wealth among ourselves and to kill one another; while Allah says: O ye who believe; do not consume your wealth among yourselves unjustly; unless it be trade based on mutual agreement; and do not kill yourselves. Verily; God is Merciful to you iv. 29. SahihMuslim-017-001-18043It is narrated on the authority of Urwa Bin AlZubair who narrated from Aisha that she informed him that Fatima; daughter of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ; sent someone to Abu Bakr to demand from him her share of the legacy left by the Messenger of Allah ﷺ from what Allah had bestowed upon him at Medina and Fadak and what was left from one-filth of the income annually received from Khaibar. Abu Bakr said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: We prophets do not have any heirs; what we leave behind is to be given in charity. The household of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ will live on the income from these properties; but; by Allah; I will not change the charity of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ from the condition in which it was in his own time. I will do the same with it as the Messenger of Allah may peace be upun him himself used to do. So Abu Bakr refused to hand over anything from it to Fatima who got angry with Abu Bakr for this reason. She forsook him and did not talk to him until the end of her life. She lived for six months after the death of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. When she died; her husband. Ali Bin Abu Talib; buried her at night. He did not inform Abu Bakr about her death and offered the funeral prayer over her himself. During the lifetime of Fatima; All received special regard from the people. After she had died; he felt estrangement in the faces of the people towards him. So he sought to make peace with Abu Bakr and offer his allegiance to him. He had not yet owed allegiance to him as Caliph during these months. He sent a person to Abu Bakr requesting him to visit him unaccompanied by anyone disapproving the presence of Umar. Umar said to Abu Bakr: BY Allah; you will not visit them alone. Abu Bakr said: What will they do to me? By Allah; I will visit them. And he did pay them a visit alone. All recited Tashahhud as it is done in the beginning of a religious sermon ; then said: We recognise your moral excellence and what Allah has bestowed upon you. We do not envy the favour i. e. the Catiphate which Allah nas conferred upon you; but you have done it assumed the position of Caliph alone without consulting us ; and we thought we had a right to be consulted on account of our kinship with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He continued to talk to Abu Bakr in this vein until the latter eyes welled up with tears. Then Abd Bakr spoke and said: By Allah; in Whose Hand is my life; the kinship of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ is dearer to me than the kinship of my own people. As regards the dispute that has arisen between you and me about these properties; I have not deviated from the right course and I have not given up doing about them what the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to do. So Ali said to Abu Bakr: This aftetnoon is fixed for swearing allegiance to you. So when Abu Bakr had finished his Zuhr prayer; he ascended the pulpit and recited Tashahhud; and described the status of Ali; his delay in swearing allegiance and the excuse which lie had offered to him for this delay. After this he asked for God forgiveness. Then Ali Bin Abu Talib recited the Tashahhud. extolled the merits of Abu Bakr and said that his action was nott prompted by any jealousy of Abu Bakr on his part or his refusal to accept the high position which Allah had conferred upon him; adding: But we were of the opinion that we should have a share in the government; but the matter had been decided without taking us into confidence; and this displeased us. Hence the delay in offering allegiance. The Muslims were pleased with this explanation and they said: You have done the right thing. And I know fully well that some people would blame me that I killed with these very hands of mine some persons who apparently professed Islam. And if they do this blame me they are the enemies of Allah; and are non-believers and have gone astray. And I leave not after me anything which to my mind seems more important than Kalala. And I never turned towards the Messenger of Allah ﷺ for guidance more often than this Kalala; and he the Holy Prophet was not annoyed with me on any other issue than this: And he was so perturbed that he struck his fingers on my chest and said: Does this verse. that is at the end of Surat AlNisa. which was revealed in the hot season not suffice you? And if I live longer I would decide this problem so clearly that one who reads the Quran; or one who does not read it; would be able to take correct ; decisions under its light. He Umar further said: Allah! I call You witness on these governors of lands; that I sent them to the peoples of these lands so that they should administer justice amongst them; teach them their religion and the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ; and distribute amongst them the spoils of war and refer to me that which they find difficult to perform. O people. you eat these two plants and these are onions and garlic. and I find them nothing but repugnant for I saw that when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sensed the odour of these two from a person in a Masjid; he was made to go to AlBaqi. SunanAbuDawoud-017-001-29243Narrated Umar Ibn Abd AlAziz: AlMughirah Ibn Shubah said: Umar Ibn Abd AlAziz gathered the family of Marwan when he was made caliph; and he said: Fadak belonged to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ; and he made contributions from it; showing repeated kindness to the poor of the Banu Hashim from it; and supplying from it the cost of marriage for those who were unmarried. Fatimah asked him to give it to her; but he refused. That is how matters stood during the lifetime of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ till he passed on i.e. died. When Abu Bakr was made ruler he administered it as the Prophet ﷺ had done in his lifetime till he passed on. Then when Umar Ibn AlKhattab was made ruler he administered it as they had done till he passed on. Then it was given to Marwan as a fief; and it afterwards came to Umar Ibn Abd AlAziz. Umar Ibn Abd AlAziz said: I consider I have no right to something which the Messenger of Allah ﷺ refused to Fatimah; and I call you to witness that I have restored it to its former condition; meaning in the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.Abu Dawud said: When Umar Bin Abd AlAziz was made caliph its revenue was forty thousand dinars; and when he died its revenue was four hundred dinars. He used to say; Whoever watches the night in prayer in Ramadan with trust and expectancy; will be forgiven all his previous wrong actions.
