For such, their portion appointed must reach them from the Book (of decrees): until, when our messengers (of death) arrive and take their souls, they say: "Where are the things that ye used to invoke besides Allah?" They will reply, "They have left us in the lurch," And they will bear witness against themselves, that they had rejected Allah.

Had it not been for a Word that went forth before from thy Lord, (tending) to a Term appointed, the matter would have been settled between them: But truly those who have inherited the Book after them are in suspicious (disquieting) doubt concerning it.

Each one runs (its course) for a term appointed. He doth regulate all affairs, explaining the signs in detail, that ye may believe with certainty in the meeting with your Lord.

He said: "Is it not possible, if ye were commanded to fight, that that ye will not fight?" They said: "How could we refuse to fight in the cause of Allah, seeing that we were turned out of our homes and our families?" but when they were commanded to fight, they turned back, except a small band among them. But Allah Has full knowledge of those who do wrong.

Surely therein is a Sign for you if ye did believe;

Say: "The knowledge thereof is with my Lord (alone): None but He can reveal as to when it will occur. Heavy were its burden through the heavens and the earth. Only, all of a sudden will it come to you." They ask thee as if thou Wert eager in search thereof: Say: "The knowledge thereof is with Allah (alone), but most men know not."

Even if ye had made a mutual appointment to meet, ye would certainly have failed in the appointment: But (thus ye met), that Allah might accomplish a matter already enacted; that those who died might die after a clear Sign (had been given), and those who lived might live after a Clear Sign (had been given). And verily Allah is He Who heareth and knoweth (all things).

SahihAlBukhari-017-001-1313		Narrated Abdullah Bin Umar: It was said to Umar; Will you appoint your successor? Umar said; If I appoint a Caliph as my successor it is true that somebody who was better than I i.e.; Abu Bakr did so; and if I leave the matter undecided; it is true that somebody who was better than I i.e.; Allah Messenger ﷺ did so. On this; the people praised him. Umar said; People are of two kinds: Either one who is keen to take over the Caliphate or one who is afraid of assuming such a responsibility. I wish I could be free from its responsibility in that I would receive neither reward nor retribution I wont bear the burden of the caliphate in my death as I do in my life. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-6689		Narrated Jarir: While I was at Yemen; I met two men from Yemen called Dhu Kala and Dhu Amr; and I started telling them about Allah Messenger ﷺ. Dhu Amr said to me; If what you are saying about your friend i.e. the Prophet is true; then he has died three days ago. Then both of them accompanied me to Medina; and when we had covered some distance on the way to Medina; we saw some riders coming from Medina. We asked them and they said; Allah Messenger ﷺ has died and Abu Bakr has been appointed as the Caliph and the people are in a good state. Then they said; Tell your friend Abu Bakr that we have come to visit him ; and if Allah will; we will come again. So they both returned to Yemen. When I told Abu Bakr their statement; he said to me; I wish you had brought them to me. Afterwards I met Dhu Amr; and he said to me; O Jarir! You have done a favor to me and I am going to tell you something; i.e. you; the nation of Arabs; will remain prosperous as long as you choose and appoint another chief whenever a former one is dead. But if authority is obtained by the power of the sword; then the rulers will become kings who will get angry; as kings get angry; and will be delighted as kings get delighted. Why did he not remain in the house of his father and his mother and his gift came to him; if he was truthful? By God; any one of you will not take anything from the public funds without any justification; but will meet his Lord carrying it on himself on the Day of judgment. I will recognise any one of you meeting Allah and carrying a growling camel; or a cow bellowing or a goat bleating. Then he raised his hands so high that whiteness of his armpits could be seen. Then he said: O my Lord; I have conveyed Thy Commandments. The narrator says: My eyes saw the Prophet standing in that pose and my ears heard what he said. SahihMuslim-017-001-22117		Abd AlMuttalib Bin Rabia Bin AlHarith reported that Rabia Bin AlHarith and Abbas Bin Abd AlMuttalib gathered together and said: By Allah; if we had sent these two young boys i. e. I and Fadl Bin Abbas to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and they had spoken to him; he would have appointed them as the collectors of these sadaqat; and they would collect them and pay to the Holy Prophet as other people collectors paid and would get a share as other people got it. As they were talking about it there came Ali Bin Abu Talib and stood before them; and they made a mention of it to him. Ali Bin Abu Talib said: Dont do that; by Allah he the Holy Prophet would not do that would not accept your request. Rabia Bin Harith turned to him and said: By Allah; you are not doing so but out of jealousy that you nurse against us By Allah; you became the son-in-law of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ but we felt no jealousy against you for this great privilege of yours. Ali then said: Send them if you like. They set out and Ali lay on the bed. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ offered the noon prayer. we went ahead of him to his apartment and stood near it till he came out. He took hold of our ears out of love and affection and then said: Give out what you have kept in your hearts. He then entered the apartment and we also went in and he the Holy Prophet was on that day in the house of Zainab Bin jahsh. We urged each of us to speak. Then one of us thus spoke: Messenger of Allah; you are the best of humanity and the best to cement the ties of blood-relations. We have reached the-marriageable age. We have come to you so that you may appoint us as collectors of these sadaqat. and we would pay you just as thin people other collectors pay you; and get our share as others get it. He the Holy Prophet kept silence for a long time till we wished that we should speak with him again ; and Zainab pointied to us from behind the curtain not to talk any more. He the Holy Prophet said; It does not become the family of Muhammad to accept sadaqat for they are the impurities of people. You call to me Mahmiya and he was in charge of khums; i. e; of the one-fifth part that goes to the treasury out of the spoils of war ; and Nawfal Bin Harith Bin Abd AlMuttalib. They both came to him; and he the Holy Prophet said to Mahmiya: Marry your daughter to this young man i. e. Fadl Bin Abbas ; and he married her to him And he said to Nawfal Bin Harith: Marry your daughter to this young man i e. Abd AlMuttalib Bin Rabia; the narrator of this hadith and he married her to me; and he said to Mahmiya: Pay so much mahr on behalf of both of them from this khums Zuhri; however. said: He did not determine the amount of mahr. So when you see them doing so; say prayer at its appointed time and then say prayer along with them as Nafl ; and when you are three; pray together standing in one row ; and when you are more than three; appoint one amongst you as your Imam. And when any one of you bows he must place his hands upon hie thighs and kneel down. and putting his palms together place them within his thighs. SunanAbuDawoud-017-001-25403		Ibn Abbas and Tawus reported : The Messenger of Allah SWAS appointed places for putting on Ihram and narrated the rest of the tradition to the same effect as mentioned above. One of them said and Yalamlam for the people of Yemen. The other narrator said Alamlam. These places for Ihram are appointed for these regions and for people of other regions who come to them intending to perform Hajj and Umrah. The place where those who live nearer to Makkah should put on Ihram from where they start and so on up to the inhabitants of Makkah itself who put on Ihram in it. This is the version of Ibn Tawus. SunanAbuDawoud-017-001-29217		Narrated Abu Humaid AlSaidi: The Prophet ﷺ appointed a man of Azd called Ibn AlLutbiyayah to collect sadaqah. The narrator Ibn AlSarh said: He appointed Ibn AlUtbiyah to collect the sadaqah. When he returned he said: This is for you and this was given to me as present. So the Prophet ﷺ stood on the pulpit; and after praising and extolling Allah he said: What is the matter with a collector of sadaqah. We send him to collect sadaqah ; and when he return he says: This is for you and this is a present which was given to me. Why did he not sit in his father or mother house and see whether it would be given to him or not ? Whoever takes any of it will inevitably bring it on the Day of Resurrection; be it a camel which rumbles; an ox which bellows; or sheep which-bleats. SunanAbuDawoud-017-001-29256		Narrated AbdulMuttalib Ibn Rabiah Ibn AlHarith: AbdulMuttalib Ibn Rabiah Ibn AlHarith said that his father; Rabiah Ibn AlHarith; and Abbas Ibn AlMuttalib said to AbdulMuttalib Ibn Rabiah and AlFadl Ibn Abbas: Go to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and tell him: Messenger of Allah; we are now of age as you see; and we wish to marry. Messenger of Allah; you are the kindest of the people and the most skilled in matchmaking. Our fathers have nothing with which to pay our dower. So appoint us collector of sadaqah zakat ; Messenger of Allah; and we shall give you what the other collectors give you; and we shall have the benefit accruing from it. Ali came to us while we were in this condition. He said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: No; I swear by Allah; he will not appoint any of you collector of sadaqah zakat. Rabiah said to him: This is your condition; you have gained your relationship with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ by marriage; but we did not grudge you that. Ali then put his cloak on the earth and lay on it. He then said: I am the father ofHassan the chief. I swear by Allah; I shall not leave this place until your sons come with a reply to the question for which you have sent them to the Prophet ﷺ. AbdulMuttalib said: So I and AlFadl went towards the door of the apartment of the Prophet ﷺ. We found that the noon prayer in congregation had already started. So we prayed along with the people. I and AlFadl then hastened towards the door of the apartment of the Prophet ﷺ. He was staying with Zaynab; daughter of Jahsh; that day. We stood until the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came. He caught my ear and the ear of AlFadl. He then said: Reveal what you conceal in your hearts. He then entered and permitted me and AlFadl to enter. So we entered and for a little while we asked each other to talk. I then talked to him; or AlFadl talked to him the narrator; Abdullah was not sure. He said: He spoke to him concerning the matter about which our fathers ordered us to ask him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ remained silent for a moment and raised his eyes towards the ceiling of the room. He took so long that we thought he would not give any reply to us. Meanwhile we saw that Zaynab was signalling to us with her hand from behind the veil; asking us not to be in a hurry; and that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was thinking about our matter. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then lowered his head and said to us: This sadaqah zakat is a dirt of the people. It is legal neither for Muhammad nor for the family of Muhammad. Call Nawfal Ibn AlHarith to me. So Nawfal Ibn AlHarith was called to him. He said: Nawfal; marry AbdulMuttalib to your daughter. So Nawfal married me to his daughter. The Prophet ﷺ then said: Call Mahmiyah Ibn Jazi to me. He was a man of Banu Zubayd; whom the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had appointed collector of the fifths. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to Mahmiyah: Marry AlFadl to your daughter. So he married him to her. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Stand up and pay the dower from the fifth so-and-so on their behalf. Abdullah Ibn AlHarith did not name it i.e. the amount of the dower. SunanAbuDawoud-017-001-29261		Narrated Mujjaah Ibn Mirarah AlYamani: Mujjaah went to the Prophet ﷺ asking him for the blood-money of his brother whom Banu Sadus from Banu Dhuhl had killed. The Prophet ﷺ said: Had I appointed blood-money for a polytheist; I should have appointed it for your brother. But I shall give you compensation for him. So the Prophet ﷺ wrote a document for him that he should be given a hundred camels which were to be acquired from the fifth taken from the polytheists of Banu Dhuhl. So he took a part of them; for Banu Dhuhl embraced Islam. He then asked Abu Bakr for them later on; and brought to him the document of the Prophet ﷺ. So Abu Bakr wrote for him that he should be given one thousand two hundred sa from the sadaqah of AlYamamah; four thousand sas of wheat; four thousand sas of barley; and four thousand sas of dates. The text of the document written by the Prophet ﷺ for Mujjaah was as follows: In the name of Allah; the Beneficent; the Merciful. This document is from Muhammad; the Prophet; to Mujjaah Ibn Mirarah of Banu Sulma. I have given him one hundred camels from the first fifth acquired from the polytheist of Banu Dhuhl as a compensation for his brother.
