The man went back and told the Prophet ﷺ that Thabit had said so-and-so. The sub-narrator; Mousa Bin Anas said; The man went to Thabit again with glad tidings. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-4708Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah Messenger ﷺ sent a Sariya of ten men as spies under the leadership of Aasi m Bin Thabit AlAnsari; the grandfather of Aasi m Bin Umar AlKhattab. They proceeded till they reached Hadaa; a place between Usfan; and Mecca; and their news reached a branch of the tribe of Hudhail called Bani Lihyan. About two-hundred men; who were all archers; hurried to follow their tracks till they found the place where they had eaten dates they had brought with them from Medina. They said; These are the dates of Yathrib i.e. Medina ; and continued following their tracks When Aasi m and his companions saw their pursuers; they went up a high place and the infidels circled them. The infidels said to them; Come down and surrender; and we promise and guarantee you that we will not kill any one of you Aasi m Bin Thabit; the leader of the Sariya said; By Allah! I will not come down to be under the protection of infidels. O Allah! Convey our news to Your Prophet. Then the infidels threw arrows at them till they martyred Aasi m along with six other men; and three men came down accepting their promise and convention; and they were Khubaib AlAnsari and Ibn Dathina and another man So; when the infidels captured them; they undid the strings of their bows and tied them. Then the third of the captives said; This is the first betrayal. By Allah! I will not go with you. No doubt these; namely the martyred; have set a good example to us. So; they dragged him and tried to compel him to accompany them; but as he refused; they killed him. They took Khubaid and Ibn Dathina with them and sold them as slaves in Mecca and all that took place after the battle of Badr. Khubaib was bought by the sons of AlHarith Bin Amir Bin Nawfal Bin Abd Manaf. It was Khubaib who had killed AlHarith Bin Amir on the day of the battle of Badr. So; Khubaib remained a prisoner with those people. Narrated AlZuhri: Ubaidullah Bin Eyad said that the daughter of AlHarith had told him; When those people gathered to kill Khubaib he borrowed a razor from me to shave his pubes and I gave it to him. Then he took a son of mine while I was unaware when he came upon him. I saw him placing my son on his thigh and the razor was in his hand. I got scared so much that Khubaib noticed the agitation on my face and said; Are you afraid that I will kill him? No; I will never do so. By Allah; I never saw a prisoner better than Khubaib. By Allah; one day I saw him eating of a bunch of grapes in his hand while he was chained in irons; and there was no fruit at that time in Mecca. The daughter of AlHarith used to say; It was a boon Allah bestowed upon Khubaib. When they took him out of the Sanctuary of Mecca to kill him outside its boundaries; Khubaib requested them to let him offer two rakat prayer. They allowed him and he offered Two rakat and then said; Hadnt I been afraid that you would think that I was afraid of being killed ; I would have prolonged the prayer. O Allah; kill them all with no exception. He then recited the poetic verse :- I being martyred as a Muslim; Do not mind how I am killed in Allah Cause; For my killing is for Allah Sake; And if Allah wishes; He will bless the amputated parts of a torn body Then the son of AlHarith killed him. So; it was Khubaib who set the tradition for any Muslim sentenced to death in captivity; to offer a two-rakat prayer before being killed. Allah fulfilled the invocation of Aasi m Bin Thabit on that very day on which he was martyred. The Prophet ﷺ informed his companions of their news and what had happened to them. Later on when some infidels from Quraish were informed that Aasi m had been killed; they sent some people to fetch a part of his body i.e. his head by which he would be recognized. That was because Aasi m had killed one of their chiefs on the day of the battle of Badr. So; a swarm of wasps; resembling a shady cloud; were sent to hover over Aasi m and protect him from their messenger and thus they could not cut off anything from his flesh. The Chapter on Killing And Martyrs in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on The performance of a two Raka Salat before being put to death in Sahih AlBukhari
SahihAlBukhari-017-001-6344Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah Messenger ﷺ sent out ten spies under the command of Aasi m Bin Thabit AlAnsari; the grand-father of Aasi m Bin Umar AlKhattab. When they reached a place called AlHadah between Usfan and Mecca; their presence was made known to a sub-tribe of Hudhail called Banu Lihyan. So they sent about one hundred archers after them. The archers traced the footsteps of the Muslims till they found the traces of dates which they had eaten at one of their camping places. The archers said; These dates are of Yathrib i.e. Medina ; and went on tracing the Muslims footsteps. When Aasi m and his companions became aware of them; they took refuge in a high place. But the enemy encircled them and said; Come down and surrender. We give you a solemn promise and covenant that we will not kill anyone of you. Aasi m Bin Thabit said; O people! As for myself; I will never get down to be under the protection of an infidel. O Allah! Inform your Prophet about us. So the archers threw their arrows at them and martyred Aasi m. Three of them came down and surrendered to them; accepting their promise and covenant and they were Khubaib; Zaid Bin AlDathina and another man. When the archers got hold of them; they untied the strings of the arrow bows and tied their captives with them. The third man said; This is the first proof of treachery! By Allah; I will not go with you for I follow the example of these. He meant the martyred companions. The archers dragged him and struggled with him till they martyred him. Then Khubaib and Zaid Bin AlDathina were taken away by them and later on they sold them as slaves in Mecca after the event of the Badr battle. The sons of AlHarit Bin Amr Bin Nawfal bought Khubaib for he was a person who had killed their father AlHari Bin Amr on the day of the battle of Badr. Khubaib remained imprisoned by them till they decided unanimously to kill him. One day Khubaib borrowed from a daughter of AlHarith; a razor for shaving his pubic hair; and she lent it to him. By chance; while she was inattentive; a little son of hers went to him i.e. Khubaib and she saw that Khubaib had seated him on his thigh while the razor was in his hand. She was so much terrified that Khubaib noticed her fear and said; Are you afraid that I will kill him? Never would I do such a thing. Later on while narrating the story she said; By Allah; I had never seen a better captive than Khubaib. By Allah; one day I saw him eating from a bunch of grapes in his hand while he was fettered with iron chains and at that time there was no fruit in Mecca. She used to say; It was food Allah had provided Khubaib with. When they took him to AlHil out of Mecca sanctuary to martyr him; Khubaib requested them. Allow me to offer a two-rakat prayer. They allowed him and he prayed two rakat and then said; By Allah! Had I not been afraid that you would think I was worried; I would have prayed more. Then he invoked evil upon them saying; O Allah! Count them and kill them one by one; and do not leave anyone of them Then he recited: As I am martyred as a Muslim; I do not care in what way I receive my death for Allah Sake; for this is for the Cause of Allah. If He wishes; He will bless the cut limbs of my body. Then Abu Sarva; Ubqa Bin AlHarith went up to him and killed him. It was Khubaib who set the tradition of praying for any Muslim to be martyred in captivity before he is executed. The Prophet ﷺ told his companions of what had happened to those ten spies on the same day they were martyred. Some Quraish people; being informed of Aasi m Bin Thabit death; sent some messengers to bring a part of his body so that his death might be known for certain; for he had previously killed one of their leaders in the battle of Badr. But Allah sent a swarm of wasps to protect the dead body of Aasi m; and they shielded him from the messengers who could not cut anything from his body. The Chapter on Military Expedition Martyrs in HodHood Indexing, The Book of Military Expeditions led by the Prophet AlMaghaazi in Sahih AlBukhari
SahihAlBukhari-017-001-7159Narrated Anas Bin Malik: The Prophet ﷺ missed Thabit Bin Qais for a period So he inquired about him. A man said. O Allah Apostle! I will bring you his news. So he went to Thabit and found him sitting in his house and bowing his head. The man said to Thabit; What is the matter with you? Thabit replied that it was an evil affair; for he used to raise his voice above the voice of the Prophet ﷺ and so all his good deeds had been annulled; and he considered himself as one of the people of the Fire. Then the man returned to the Prophet ﷺ and told him that Thabit had said; so-and-so. Mousa Bin Anas said: The man returned to Thabit with great glad tidings. The Prophet ﷺ said to the man. SahihMuslim-017-001-18603It is narrated on the authority of Anas Bin Malik that when this verse: O ye who believe I raise not your voices above the voice of the Prophet; nor shout loud unto him in discourse; as ye shout loud unto one another; lest your deeds should become null and void; while you perceive not xlix. 2-5 ; was revealed. Thabit Bin Qais confined himself in his house and said: I am one of the denizens of Fire; and he deliberately avoided coming to the Apostle ﷺ. The Apostle ﷺ asked Saad b; Muadh about him and said; Abu Amr; how is Thabit? Has he fallen sick? Saad said: He is my neighbour; but I do not know of his illness. Saad came to him Thabit ; and conveyed to him the message of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Upon this Thabit said: This verse was revealed; and you are well aware of the fact that; amongst all of you; mine is the voice louder than that of the Messenger of Allah; and so I am one amongst the denizens of Fire; Saad Informed the Prophet about it. Upon this the Messenger of Allah observed: Nay; not so but he Thabit is one of the dwellers of Paradise. The Chapter on Recitations And Poetry Graves in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on 52 in Sahih Muslim
SahihMuslim-017-001-18769Mabad Bin Hilal AlAnazi reported: We went to Anas Bin Malik through Thabit and reached there his house while he was offering the forenoon prayer. Thabit sought permission for us and we entered; and he seated Thabit with him on his bedstead. He Thabit said to him Anas Bin Malik : O Abu Hamza kunya of Anas Bin Malik ; your brothers from among the inhabitants of Basra ask you to narrate to them the hadith of intercession. He said: Muhammad ﷺ narrated to us: When it would be the Day of Resurrection; some of the people would rush to one another in bewilderment. They would come to Adam and say: Intercede with your Lord for your progeny. He would say: I am not fit to do this; but go to Ibrabim ﷺ for he is the Friend of Allah. They would come to Ibrahim; but he would say: I am not fit to do this; but go to Moses; for he is Allah Interlocutor. They would come to Moses; but he would say: I am not fit to do this; but you should go to Jesus; for he is the Spirit of Allah and His word. They would come to Jesus; and he would say; I am not fit to do this; you better go to Muhammad ﷺ. They would come to me; and I would say: I am in a position to do that; I would go and ask the permission of my Lord and it would be granted to me. I would then stand before Him and would extol Him with praises which I am not able to do now; but with which Allah would inspire me; then I would fall in prostration and it would be said to me: O Muhammad; raise thy head; and say and it would be listened to; ask and it would be granted; intercede and it would be accepted. I shall say: My Lord; my people; my people It would be said: Go; and bring forth from it Hell him who has in his heart faith equal to the weight of a wheat grain or a barley seed. I would go and do that; then I would return to my Lord and extol Him with those praises taught to me by Allah ; then I would fall in prostration. It would be said to me: O Muhammad; raise your head; and say and it would be heard; ask and it would be granted; intercede and intercession would be accepted. So I would say: My people. my people. It would be said to me: Go and take out from it Hell him who has in his heart faith equal to the weight of a mustard seed. I would go and do that. I would again return to my Lord and extol Him with those praises. I would then fall in prostration. It would be said to me: O Muhammad; raisevour head: say; and you would be listened to; ask and it would be granted; intercede and intercession would be accepted. I would say: My Lord; my people; my people. It would be said to me: Go; and bring out of the Fire him who has in his heart as much faith as the smallest; smallest; smallest grain of mustard seed. I would go and do that. This is the hadith which Anas narrated to us. We went out of his house and when we reached the upper part of Jabban graveyard we said: Would that we meetHassan and salute him and he was hiding in the house of Abu Khalifa. He Mabad Bin Hilal; the narrator said: We went to him and greeted him and we said: O Abu Said; we come from your brother Abu Hamza kunya of Anas ; and we have never heard a hadith like this relating to intercession; which he has narrated to us. He said: Narrate it; we narrated the hadith. He said: Narrate it still further. We said: He did not narrate it before us more than this. He said: He Anas had narrated it to us twenty years back; when he was strong and healthy. He has in fact missed something. I cannot make out whether the old man has forgotten or he has intentionally avoided to narrate it to you lest you should rely absolutely upon it and abandon doing good deeds. We said to him: Relate that to us; and he laughed and said: There is haste in the nature of man. I did not make mention of it to you but for the fact that I wanted to narrate that to you and added that the Prophet said : I would then return to my Lord for the fourth time and extol Him with these praises. I would then fall in prostration. It would be said to me: O Muhammad; raise your head: say and it will be listened to; ask and it will be granted; intercede and intercession would be accepted. I would say: O my Lord; permit me regarding him who professed: There is no god but Allah. He the Lord would say: That is not for thee or that is not what lies with thee; but by My Honour; Glory; Greatness and Might; I would certainly take him out who professed it: There is no god but Allah. He the narrator; Mabad said: I hear testimony to the fact that the hadith transmitted to us-byHassan was heard by him from Anas Bin Malik and I can see that he reported it twenty years back; when he was hale and hearty. The Chapter on Allah And Prophets Jesus And Alkhalil in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on 84 in Sahih Muslim
SahihMuslim-017-001-19646Ibn Abbas reported that Mousailima AlKadhdhab the greater liar who claimed prophethood after the death of the Holy Prophet came during the lifetime of Allah Apostle ﷺ to Medina and said: If Muhammad assigns his caliphate to me after him I would follow him; and there came along with him a large body of persons of his tribe; and there came to him Allah Apostle ﷺ along with Thabit Bin Qais Bin Shammas and the Prophet of Allah ﷺ had a piece of wood in his hand until he came in front of Mousailima in the company of his companions and said: If you were to ask even this wood ; I would never give it to you. I am not going to do anything against the will of God in your case; and if you turn away from what I say Allah will destroy you. And I find you in the same state which I was shown in the dream and here is Thabit and he would answer you on my behalf. He the Holy Prophet then went back. Ibn Abbas said: I asked the meaning of the words of Allah Apostle ﷺ : You are the same what I was made to see about you in my dream. and Abu Huraira reported that Allah Messenger ﷺ said: While I was sleeping I saw in my hands two gold bangles. This had a disturbing effect upon me and I was given a suggestion in the sleep that I should blow over them; so I blew over them and they were no more. And I interpreted these two bangles as the two great liars who would appear after me and the one amongst them was AlAnasi the inhabitant of Sana and the other one Mousailima the inhabitant of Yamama. The Chapter on Life And Death And Praise in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on 4 in Sahih Muslim

He Thabit said: Anas used to do that which I do not see you doing; when he lifted his head from bowing he stood up so long that one would say: He has forgotten to baw down in prostration. A person said to Thabit: Where stood Anas with him the Holy Prophet ? He replied: He was on the right side. He then blessed us; the members of the household with every good of this world and of the Hereafter. My mother said: Messenger of Allah and then; pointing towards Anas; said ; here is your little servant; invoke the blessing of Allah upon him too. This version has: The people said to Saad Ibn Ubadah: Abu Thabit; the prescribed punishments have been revealed: if you find a man with your wife; what will you do? He said: I shall strike them with a sword so much that they become silent i.e. die. Should I go and gather four witnesses? Until that time the need would be fulfilled. So they went away and gathered with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: Messenger of Allah! did you not see Abu Thabit. He said so-and-so. I realised that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ would look at her in the same way that I had looked. Marwan said; No; by Allah! only in the place of sorting out claims i.e. the mimbar. Zayd Ibn Thabit began to take an oath that his right was true; and he refused to take an oath near the mimbar. Malik said; The way of doing things among us about selling melons; cucumbers; water- melons; and carrots is that it is halal to sell them when it is clear that they have begun to ripen. Then the buyer has what grows until the season is over. There is no specific timing laid down for that because the time is well known with people; and it may happen that the crop will be affected by blight and put a premature end to the season.
