Then he was told the narration of Rafi Bin Khadeej that the Prophet ﷺ had forbidden the renting of farms. Ibn Umar went to Rafi and I accompanied him. He asked Rafi who replied that the Prophet had forbidden the renting of farms. Ibn Umar said; You know that we used to rent our farms in the lifetime of Allah Messenger ﷺ for the yield of the banks of the water streams rivers and for certain amount of figs. SunanAbuDawoud-017-001-28884		Narrated Salim Bin Abdullah Bin Umar: Ibn Umar used to let out his land till it reached him that Rafi Bin Khadeej AlAnsari narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade let out land. So Abdullah Bin Umar said: Ibn Khadij; what do you narrate from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about leasing the land? Rafi replied to Abdullah Bin Umar: I heard both of my uncles were present in the battle of Badr say; and they narrated it to the members of the family; that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade leasing land. Abdullah said: I swear by Allah; I knew that land was leased in the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Abdullah then feared that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ might have created something new in that matter; so he gave up leasing land.Abu Dawud said: This tradition has also been transmitted by Ayoub ; Ubaid Allah; Kathir Bin Farqad; Malik from Nafi on the authority of Rafi from the Prophet ﷺ. It has also been transmitted by AlAuzai from Hafs Bin Inan AlHanafi from Nafi from Rafi who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: Similarly; it has been transmitted by Zaid Bin Abi Unaisah from AlHakkam from Nafi from Ibn Umar that he went to Rafi and asked: Have you heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say? He replied: Yes. Similarly; it has also been transmitted by Ikrimah Bin Ammar from Abu AlNajashi; from Rafi Bin Khadeej who said: I heard the Prophet ﷺ say. SunanAbuDawoud-017-001-28889		Abu Jafar AlKhatmi said: My uncle sent me and his slave to Saeed Ibn AlMusayab. We said to him; there is something which has reached us about sharecropping. He replied: Ibn Umar did not see any harm in it until a tradition reached him from Rafi Ibn Khadij. He then came to him and Rafi told him that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to Banu Harithah and saw crop in the land of Zuhayr. He said: What an excellent crop of Zuhayr is! They said: It does not belong to Zuhayr. He asked: Is this not the land of Zuhayr? They said: Yes; but the crop belongs to so-and-so. He said: Take your crop and give him the wages. Rafi said: We took our crop and gave him the wages. Saeed Ibn AlMusayab said: Lend your brother or employ him for dirhams. MuwataMalik-017-001-34800		Yahya related to me from Malik from Yahya Ibn Said from Muhammad Ibn Yahya Ibn Habban that a slave stole a small palm from a man garden and planted it in the garden of his master. The owner of the palm went out looking for the palm and found it. He asked for help against the slave from Marwan Ibn AlHakam. Marwan jailed the slave and wanted to cut off his hand. The master of the slave rushed off to Rafi Ibn Khadij and asked him about it. Rafi informed him that he heard the Messenger of Allah; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; say; The hand is not cut off for fruit or palm pith. The man said; Marwan Ibn AlHakam has taken a slave of mine and wants to cut off his hand. I would like you to go with me to him so you can tell him what you heard from the Messenger of Allah; may Allah bless him and grant him peace. So; Rafi went with him to Marwan Ibn AlHakam. He said; Did you arrest a slave for this? He said; Yes. He said; What will you do with him? He said; I want to cut off his hand. Rafi said to him; I heard the Messenger of Allah; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; say; The hand is not cut off for dates or palm pith. Marwan therefore ordered the slave to be released. MuwataMalik-017-001-35365		Yahya related to me from Malik from Ibn Shihab that Rafi Ibn Khadij married the daughter of Muhammad Ibn Maslama AlAnsari. She was with him until she grew older; and then he married a young girl and preferred the young girl to her. She begged him to divorce her; so he divorced her and then he gave her time until she had almost finished her idda period and then he returned and still preferred the young girl. She therefore asked him to divorce her. He divorced her once; and then returned to her; and still preferred the young girl; and she asked him to divorce her. He said; What do you want? There is only one divorce left. If you like; continue and put up with what you see of preference; and if you like; I will separate from you. She said; I will continue in spite of the preference. He kept her in spite of that. Rafi did not see that he had done any wrong action when she remained with him in spite of preference.
