Ubai Bin Kaab AlAnsari passed by them and Ibn Abbas called him saying; My friend Hur and I have differed about Moses Companion whom Moses asked the way to meet. Did you hear Allah Messenger ﷺ mentioning anything about him? Ubai said; Yes; I heard Allah Apostle saying; While Moses was sitting in the company of some Israelites a man came to him and asked; Do you know Someone who is more learned than you Moses ? Moses said; No. So Allah sent the Divine inspiration to Moses:- Yes; Our Slave Khadir is more learned than you Moses asked Allah how to meet him Khadir So Allah made the fish as a sign for him and it was said to him; When you lose the fish; go back to the place where you lose it and you will meet him. So Moses went on looking for the sign of the fish in the sea. The boy servant of Moses who was accompanying him said to him; Do you remember what happened when we betook ourselves to the rock? | SahihAlBukhari-017-001-1941 | Narrated Abu Dhar: While I was walking with the Prophet ﷺ at the Hurra of Medina in the evening; the mountain of Uhud appeared before us. The Prophet ﷺ said; O Abu Dhar! I would not like to have gold equal to Uhud mountain for me; unless nothing of it; not even a single Dinar remains of it with me; for more than one day or three days; except that single Dinar which I will keep for repaying debts. I will spend all of it the whole amount among Allah slaves like this and like this and like this. The Prophet ﷺ pointed out with his hand to illustrate it and then said; O Abu Dhar! I replied; Labbaik wa Sadaik; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! He said; Those who have much wealth in this world will be the least rewarded in the Hereafter except those who do like this and like this i.e.; spend their money in charity. Then he ordered me; Remain at your place and do not leave it; O Abu Dhar; till I come back. He went away till he disappeared from me. Then I heard a voice and feared that something might have happened to Allah Messenger ﷺ ; and I intended to go to find out but I remembered the statement of Allah Messenger ﷺ that I should not leave; my place; so I kept on waiting and after a while the Prophet ﷺ came ; and I said to him; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ; I heard a voice and I was afraid that something might have happened to you; but then I remembered your statement and stayed there. | SahihAlBukhari-017-001-2898 | Narrated Ibn Abbas: For one year I wanted to ask Umar about the two women who helped each other against the Prophet ﷺ but I was afraid of him. One day he dismounted his riding animal and went among the trees of Arak to answer the call of nature; and when he returned; I asked him and he said; They were Aisha and Hafsa. Then he added; We never used to give significance to ladies in the days of the Pre-lslamic period of ignorance; but when Islam came and Allah mentioned their rights; we used to give them their rights but did not allow them to interfere in our affairs. Once there was some dispute between me and my wife and she answered me back in a loud voice. I said to her; Strange! You can retort in this way? She said; Yes. Do you say this to me while your daughter troubles Allah Messenger ﷺ ? So I went to Hafsa and said to her; I warn you not to disobey Allah and His Apostle. I first went to Hafsa and then to Umm Salamah and told her the same. She said to me; O Umar! It surprises me that you interfere in our affairs so much that you would poke your nose even into the affairs of Allah Messenger ﷺ and his wives. So she rejected my advice. There was an Ansari man; whenever he was absent from Allah Messenger ﷺ and I was present there; I used to convey to him what had happened on that day ; and when I was absent and he was present there; he used to convey to me what had happened as regards news from Allah Messenger ﷺ. During that time all the rulers of the nearby lands had surrendered to Allah Messenger ﷺ except the king of Ghassan in Sham; and we were afraid that he might attack us. All of a sudden the Ansari came and said; A great event has happened! I asked him; What is it? Has the Ghassani king come? He said; Greater than that! Allah Messenger ﷺ has divorced his wives! I went to them and found all of them weeping in their dwellings; and the Prophet ﷺ had ascended to an upper room of his. At the door of the room there was a slave to whom I went and said; Ask the permission for me to enter. He admitted me and I entered to see the Prophet ﷺ lying on a mat that had left its imprint on his side. Under his head there was a leather pillow stuffed with palm fires. Behold! There were some hides hanging there and some grass for tanning. Then I mentioned what I had said to Hafsa and Umm Salamah and what reply Umm Salamah had given me. | SahihAlBukhari-017-001-7232 | Narrated Ibn Abbas: Allah Messenger ﷺ went out along with a group of his companions towards Ukaz Market. At that time something intervened between the devils and the news of the Heaven; and flames were sent down upon them; so the devils returned. Their fellow-devils said; What is wrong with you? They said; Something has intervened between us and the news of the Heaven; and fires flames have been shot at us. Their fellow-devils said; Nothing has intervened between you and the news of the Heaven; but an important event has happened. Therefore; travel all over the world; east and west; and try to find out what has happened. And so they set out and travelled all over the world; east and west; looking for that thing which intervened between them and the news of the Heaven. Those of the devils who had set out towards Tihama; went to Allah Messenger ﷺ at Nakhla a place between Mecca and Taif while he was on his way to Ukaz Market. They met him while he was offering the Fajr prayer with his companions. When they heard the Holy Quran being recited by Allah Messenger ﷺ ; they listened to it and said to each other. This is the thing which has intervened between you and the news of the Heavens. Then they returned to their people and said; O our people! We have really heard a wonderful recital Quran. It gives guidance to the right; and we have believed therein. We shall not join in worship; anybody with our Lord. | SahihMuslim-017-001-18031 | Abu Qatada reported: We accompanied the Messenger of Allah my ﷺ on an expedition in the year of the Battle of Hunain. When we encountered the enemy; some of the Muslims turned back in fear. I saw that a man from the polytheists overpowered one of the Muslims. I turned round and attacked him from behind giving a blow between his neck and shoulder. He turned towards me and grappled with me in such a way that I began to see death staring me in the face. Then death overtook him and left me alone. I joined Umar Bin AlKhattab who was saying: What has happened to the people that they are retreating ? I said: It is the Decree of Allah. Then the people returned. The battle ended in a victory for the Muslims and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sat down to distribute the spoils of war. He said: One who has killed an enemy and can bring evidence to prove it will get his belongings. So I stood up and said: Who will give evidence for me? Then I sat down. Then he the Holy Prophet said like this. I stood up again and said: Who will bear witness for me? He the Holy Prophet made the same observation the third time; and I stood up once again. Now the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: What has happened to you; O Abu Qatada? Then I related the whole story; to him. At this; one of the people said: He has told the truth. Messenger of Allah 1 The belongings of the enemy killed by him are with me. Persuade him to forgo his right in my favour. Objecting to this proposal Abu Bakr said: BY Allah; this will not happen. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ will not like to deprive one of the lions from among the lions of Allah who fight in the cause of Allah and His Messenger and give thee his share of the booty. So the Messenger of Allah may peace he upon him said: He Abu Bakr has told the truth; and so give the belongings to him Abu Qatada. So he gave them to me. I sold the armour which was a part of my share of the booty and bought with the sale proceeds a garden in the street of Banu Salama. This was the first property I acquired after embracing Islam. In a version of the hadith narrated by Laith; the words uttered by Abu Bakr are: No; never! He will not give it to a fox from the Quraish leaving Aasi de a lion from the lions of Allah among.... | SahihMuslim-017-001-18080 | It has been narrated through a different chain of transmitters by Abu Ishiq that a person said to Bara Bin Azib : Abu Umara; did you flee on the Day of Hunain? He replied: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ did not retreat. What actually happened was that some hasty young men who were either inadequately armed or were unarmed met a group of men from Banu Hawazin and Banu Nadir who happened to be excellent archers. The latter shot at them a volley of arrows that did not miss. The people turned to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Abu Sufyan Bin Harith was leading his mule. So he got down; prayed and invoked God help. He said: I am the Prophet. This is no untruth. I am the son of Abd AlMuttalib. O God; descend Thy help. | SahihMuslim-017-001-18383 | It is narrated on the authority of Yahya Bin Yamur that the first man who discussed qadr Divine Decree in Basra was Mabad AlJuhani. I along with Humaid Bin Abdulrahman Himyari set out for pilgrimage or for Umrah and said: Should it so happen that we come into contact with one of the Companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ we shall ask him about what is talked about taqdir Divine Decree. Accidentally we came across Abdullah Ibn Umar Ibn AlKhattab; while he was entering the Masjid. My companion and I surrounded him. One of us stood on his right and the other stood on his left. I expected that my companion would authorize me to speak. I therefore said: Abu Abdulrahman There have appeared some people in our land who recite the Quran and pursue knowledge. And then after talking about their affairs; added: They such people claim that there is no such thing as Divine Decree and events are not predestined. He Abdullah Ibn Umar said: When you happen to meet such people tell them that I have nothing to do with them and they have nothing to do with me. And verily they are in no way responsible for my belief. Abdullah Ibn Umar swore by Him the Lord and said : If any one of them who does not believe in the Divine Decree had with him gold equal to the bulk of the mountain Uhud and spent it in the way of Allah ; Allah would not accept it unless he affirmed his faith in Divine Decree. He further said: My father; Umar Ibn AlKhattab; told me: One day we were sitting in the company of Allah Apostle ﷺ when there appeared before us a man dressed in pure white clothes; his hair extraordinarily black. There were no signs of travel on him. None amongst us recognized him. At last he sat with the Apostle ﷺ He knelt before him placed his palms on his thighs and said: Muhammad; inform me about AlIslam. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: AlIslam implies that you testify that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the messenger of Allah; and you establish prayer; pay Zakat; observe the fast of Ramadan; and perform pilgrimage to the House if you are solvent enough to bear the expense of the journey. He the inquirer said: You have told the truth. He Umar Ibn AlKhattab said: It amazed us that he would put the question and then he would himself verify the truth. He the inquirer said: Inform me about Iman faith. He the Holy Prophet replied: That you affirm your faith in Allah; in His angels; in His Books; in His Apostles; in the Day of Judgment; and you affirm your faith in the Divine Decree about good and evil. He the Holy Prophet said: That the slave-girl will give birth to her mistress and master; that you will find barefooted; destitute goat-herds vying with one another in the construction of magnificent buildings. | SahihMuslim-017-001-18688 | It is narrated on the authority of Abu Dharr that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ one day said: Do you know where the sun goes? They replied: Allah and His Apostle know best. | SahihMuslim-017-001-19248 | Abdullah Bin Amr reported that a person came to him and said: What is this hadith that you narrate that the Last Hour would come at such and such time? Thereupon he said: Hallowed be Allah; there is no god but Allah or the words to the same effect. I have decided that I would not narrate anything to anyone now. I had only said that you would see after some time an important event that the sacred House Kaba would be burnt and it would happen and definitely happen. He then reported that Allah Messenger ﷺ said: The Dajjal would appear in my Ummah and he would stay in the world for forty - I cannot say whether he meant forty days; forty months or forty years. And Allah would then send Jesus son of Mary who would resemble Urwa b Masud. He Jesus Christ would chase him and kill him. Then people would live for seven years that there would be no rancour between two persons. Then Allah would send cold wind from the side of Syria that none would survive upon the earth having a speck of good in him or faith in him but he would die; so much so that even if some amongst you were to enter the innermost part of the mountain; this wind would reach that place also and that would cause his death. I heard Allah Messenger ﷺ as saying: Only the wicked people would survive and they would be as careless as birds with the characteristics of beasts. They would never appreciate the good nor condemn evil. Then Satan would come to them in human form and would say: Dont you respond? And they would say: What do you order us? And he would command them to worship the idols but; in spite of this; they would have abundance of sustenance and lead comfortable lives. Then the trumpet would be blown and no one would hear that but he would bend his neck to one side and raise it from the other side and the first one to hear that trumpet would be the person who would be busy in setting right the tank meant for providing water to the camels. He would swoon and the other people would also swoon; then Allah would send or He would cause to send rain which would be like dew and there would grow out of it the bodies of the people. Then the second trumpet would be blown and they would stand up and begin to look around. Then it would be said: O people; go to your Lord; and make them stand there. And they would be questioned. Then it would be said: Bring out a group out of them for the Hell-Fire. And then it would be asked: How much? | SahihMuslim-017-001-20134 | Anas reported that Allah Messenger ﷺ happened to pass by the people who had been busy in grafting the trees. Thereupon he said: If you were not to do it; it might be good for you. So they abandoned this practice and there was a decline in the yield. He extolled Allah and praised Him with what He deserves; and then said afterwards;: What has happened to the people that they lay down conditions which are not found in the Book of Allah? And the condition which is not found in the Book of Allah is invalid; even if its number is one hundred. The Book of Allah is more true than any other deed and the condition laid down by Allah is more binding than any other condition. What has happened to the people among you that someone among you says: Emancipate so and so; but the right of inheritance vests in me? So satan went back to their people and they said: What has happened to you? They said: There have been created obstructions between us and the news from the Heaven. And there have been flung upon us flames. They said: It cannot happen but for some important event. So traverse the eastern parts of the earth and the western parts and find out why is it that there have been created obstructions between us and the news from the Heaven. So they went forth and traversed the easts of the earth and its wests. Some of them proceeded towards Tihama and that is a nakhl towards the bazaar of Ukaz and he the Holy Prophet was leading his Companions in the morning prayer. So when they heard the Quran. they listened to it attentively and said: It is this which has caused obstruction between us and news from the Heaven. They went back to their people and said: O our people; we have heard a strange Quran which directs us to the right path; so we affirm our faith in it and we would never associate anyone with our Lord. Then he said: I will be the Leader of the people on the Day of Resurrection. Do you know why that is? Allah will gather the people; the first and the last; on one level ground where they will all be able to hear a caller; and all of them will be visible; and the sun will be brought near such that the people will suffer distress and trouble that they cannot tolerate nor bear. Then some people will say: Dont you see the state you have reached? Why dont you look for a person who can intercede for you with your Lord? Some of them will say to others: You should go to Adam. So they will go to Adam and say; You are the father of all mankind; Allah created you with His Own Hands; and breathed into you from His spirit which He creted for you and ordered the angels to prostrate for you. Will you not intercede for us with your Lord? Dont you see what has happened to us? Dont you see the state we have reached? On that Adam will reply; Today my Lord has become angry such that He has never before been angry; and will never be thereafter. He forbade me to eat from the tree; but I disobeyed Him ; Myself! Myself! Myself! Go to somebody else; Go to Nuh. They will go to Nuh and say: O Nuh! You are the first among the Messengers to the people of the earth; and Allah named you a thankful slave. Will you not intercede for us with your Lord? Dont you see what has happened to us? Dont you see the state we have reached? Nuh will say to them : Today my Lord has become angry as He has never before been angry; and will never be thereafter. I had been given one supplication; and I supplicated against my own people. You are Allah Prophet and His Khalil among the people of the earth; so intercede for us with your Lord; dont you see what hads happened to us? He will say: Today my Lord has become angry as He has never before been angry and will never be thereafter. Indeed I uttered three lies.- Abu Hayyan a narrator mentioned them in his narration - Myself! Myself! Myself! Go to someone else! Go to Mousa. So they will go to Mousa and say: O Mousa! You are the Messenger of Allah who Allah distinguished above the people with His Message and His Speech; intercede for us with your Lord. Dont you see what has happened to us? So he will say Today my Lord has become angry as He has never before been angry and will never be thereafter. Indeed I killed a person whom I was ordered not to kill. Myself! Myself! Myself! Go to someone else; Go to Eisa. They will go to Eisa and say: O Eisa ! You are the Messenger of Allah and His Word which He placed into Mariam; and a Spirit from Him; and you spoke to the people in the cradle. Intercede for us with your Lord. Dont you see what has happened to us? Then Eisa will say: Today my Lord has become angry as He has never before been angry and will never be thereafter. He will not mention a sin; but will say: Myself! Myself! Myself! Go to someone else! Go to Muhammad. He said: They will go to Muhammad s.a.w and they say: O Muhammad! You are the Messenger of Allah and the last of the Prophets; and your past and future sins have been pardoned. Will you not intercede for us with your Lord; dont you see what has happened to us? Then I will depart until I come to under the Throne to fall prostrating before my Lord. Then Allah will guide me to such praises and beautiful statements of glorification which He did not guide anyone to before me. Then He will say: O Muhammad! Raise your head. Ask;so that you may be granted and intercede so that your intercession may be accepted. I will raise my head and say: O Lord! My Ummah! O Lord! My Ummah! O Lord! My Ummah! He will say: O Muhammad! Let those of your Ummah who have no accounts enter the gate on the right among the gates of Paradise; and they shall share in the gates other than that with the people. Then he s.a.w said: By the One in Whose Hand is my soul! So Aasi m asked the Messenger of Allah about that; and the Messenger of Allah disapproved of the question and criticized the asking of too many questions. Then Uwaimir came to him and said: What happened; O Aasi m? Aasi m said to Uwaimir: What happened?! You have not brought me any good. The Messenger of Allah disapproved of the question I asked. Uwaimir said: By Allah; I will go and ask the Messenger of Allah. So he went to the Messenger of Allah and asked him. The Messenger of Allah said: Allah the Mighty and Sublime has revealed something concerning you and your wife; so bring her here. If I keep her I would have been telling lies about her. | SunanAbuDawoud-017-001-25829 | Sufyan said according to one chain ; and Abu AlSalit said according to another chain : A man wrote to Umar Bin Abd AlAziz asking him about Divine decree. He wrote to him: To begin with; I enjoin upon you to fear Allah; to be moderate in obeying His Command; to follow the sunnah practice of His Prophet ﷺ and to abandon the novelties which the innovators introduced after his Sunnah has been established and they were saved from its trouble i.e. novelty or innovation ; so stick to Sunnah; for it is for you; if Allah chooses; a protection ; then you should know that any innovation which the people introduced was refuted long before it on the basis of some authority or there was some lesson in it; for the Sunnah was introduced by the people who were conscious of the error; slip; foolishness; and extremism in case of the sunnah was opposed. So accept for yourself what the people in the past had accepted for themselves; for they had complete knowledge of whatever they were informed; and by penetrating insight they forbade to do prohibited acts ; they had more strength than us to disclose the matters of religion ; and they were far better than us by virtue of their merits. If right guidance is what you are following; then you outstriped them to it. And if you say whatever the novelty occurred after them was introduced by those who followed the way other then theirs and disliked them. It is they who actually outstripped; and talked about it sufficiently; and gave a satisfactory explanation for it. Below them there is no place for exhaustiveness; and above them there is no place for elaborating things. Some people shortened the matter more than they had done; and thus they turned away from them ; and some people raised the matter more than they had done; and thus they exaggerated. They were on right guidance between that. You have written to me asking about confession of Divine decree; you have indeed approached a person who is well informed of it; with the will of Allah. I know what whatever novelty people have brought in; and whatever innovation people have introduced are not more manifest and more established than confession of Divine decree. The ignorant people i.e. the Arabs before Islam in pre-Islamic times have mentioned it ; they talked about it in their speeches and in their poetry. They would console themselves for what they lost; and Islam then strengthened it i.e. belief in Divine decree. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ did not mention it in one or two traditions; but the Muslims heard it from him; and they talked of it from him; and they talked of it during his lifetime and after his death. They did so out of belief and submission to their Lord and thinking themselves weak. There is nothing which is not surrounded by His knowledge; and not counted by His register and not destined by His decree. Despite that; it has been strongly mentioned in His Book: from it they have derived it; and from it they have and so ? they also read in it what you read; and they knew its interpretation of which you are ignorant. After that they said: All this is by writing and decreeing. Distress has been written down; and what has been destined will occur ; what Allah wills will surely happen; and what He does not will will not happen. We have no power to harm or benefit ourselves.
