SahihAlBukhari-017-001-3724Narrated Ibn Abbas: When Abu Dhar received the news of the Advent of the Prophet ﷺ he said to his brother; Ride to this valley of Mecca and try to find out the truth of the person who claims to be a prophet who is informed of the news of Heaven. Listen to what he says and come back to me. So his brother set out and came to the Prophet ﷺ and listened to some of his talks; and returned to Abu Dhar and said to him. I have seen him enjoining virtuous behavior and saying something that is not poetry. Abu Dhar said; You have not satisfied me as to what I wanted. He then took his journey-food and carried a waterskin of his; containing some water till be reached Mecca. He went to the Masjid and searched for the Prophet and though he did not know him; he hated to ask anybody about him. When a part of the night had passed away; Ali saw him and knew that he was a stranger. So when Abu Dhar saw Ali; he followed him; and none of them asked his companion about anything; and when it was dawn; Abu Dhar took his journey food and his water-skin to the Masjid and stayed there all the day long without being perceived by the Prophet; and when it was evening; he came back to his retiring place. Ali passed by him and said; Has the man not known his dwelling place yet? So Ali awakened him and took him with him and none of them spoke to the other about anything. When it was the third day. Ali did the same and Abu Dhar stayed with him. Then Ali said Will you tell me what has brought you here? Abu Dhar said; If you give me a firm promise that you will guide me; then I will tell you. Ali promised him; and he informed Ali about the matter. Ali said; It is true; and he is the Messenger of Allah. Next morning when you get up; accompany me; and if I see any danger for you; I will stop as if to pass water; but if I go on; follow me and enter the place which I will enter. Abu Dhar did so; and followed Ali till he entered the place of the Prophet; and Abu Dhar went in with him; Abu Dhar listened to some of the Prophet talks and embraced Islam on the spot. The Prophet ﷺ said to him; Go back to your people and inform them about it till you receive my order. Abu Dhar said; By Him in Whose Hand my life is; I will proclaim my conversion loudly amongst them i.e. the pagans. So he went out; and when he reached the Masjid; he said as loudly as possible; I bear witness that None has the right to be worshipped except Allah; and Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah. The People got up and beat him painfully. Then AlAbbas came and knelt over him to protect him and said to the people ; Woe to you! Dont you know that this man belongs to the tribe of Ghifar and your trade to Sham is through their way? So he rescued him from them. Abu Dhar again did the same the next day. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-3896Narrated Rabia Bin Abi Abdulrahman I heard Anas Bin Malik describing the Prophet ﷺ saying; He was of medium height amongst the people; neither tall nor short; he had a rosy color; neither absolutely white nor deep brown; his hair was neither completely curly nor quite lank. Divine Inspiration was revealed to him when he was forty years old. He stayed ten years in Mecca receiving the Divine Inspiration; and stayed in Medina for ten more years. When he expired; he had scarcely twenty white hairs in his head and beard. Rabia said; I saw some of his hairs and it was red. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-3930Narrated Abdulrahman Bin Abi Bakr: The companions of Suffa were poor people. The Prophet ﷺ once said; Whoever has food enough for two persons; should take a third one from among them ; and whoever has food enough for four persons; should take a fifth or a sixth or said something similar. Abu Bakr brought three persons while the Prophet ﷺ took ten. And Abu Bakr with his three family member who were I; my father and my mother the sub-narrator is in doubt whether Abdulrahman said; My wife and my servant who was common for both my house and Abu Bakr house. Abu Bakr took his supper with the Prophet ﷺ and stayed there till he offered the Isha prayers. He returned and stayed till Allah Messenger ﷺ took his supper. After a part of the night had passed; he returned to his house. His wife said to him; What has detained you from your guests? He said; Have you served supper to them? She said; They refused to take supper until you come. They i.e. some members of the household presented the meal to them but they refused to eat I went to hide myself and he said; O Ghunthar! He invoked Allah to cause my ears to be cut and he rebuked me. He then said to them : Please eat! and added; I will never eat the meal. By Allah; whenever we took a handful of the meal; the meal grew from underneath more than that handful till everybody ate to his satisfaction; yet the remaining food was more than the original meal. Abu Bakr saw that the food was as much or more than the original amount. He called his wife; O sister of Bani Firas! She said; O pleasure of my eyes. The food has been tripled in quantity. Abu Bakr then started eating thereof and said; It i.e. my oath not to eat was because of Sa all. He took a handful from it; and carried the rest to the Prophet. So that food was with the Prophet ﷺ. There was a treaty between us and some people; and when the period of that treaty had elapsed; he divided US into twelve groups; each being headed by a man. Allah knows how many men were under the command of each leader. Anyhow; the Prophet ﷺ surely sent a leader with each group. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-3976Narrated Abdullah Bin Masud: Saad Bin Muadh came to Mecca with the intention of performing Umra; and stayed at the house of Umaiya Bin Khalaf Abi Safwan; for Umaiya himself used to stay at Saad house when he passed by Medina on his way to Sham. Umaiya said to Sad; Will you wait till midday when the people are at their homes ; then you may go and perform the Tawaf round the Kaba? So; while Saad was going around the Kaba; Abu Jahl came and asked; Who is that who is performing Tawaf? Saad replied; I am Sad. Abu Jahl said; Are you circumambulating the Kaba safely although you have given refuge to Muhammad and his companions? Saad said; Yes; and they started quarreling. Umaiya said to Sad; Dont shout at Abi AlHakam i.e. Abu Jahl ; for he is chief of the valley of Mecca. Saad then said to Abu Jahl. By Allah; if you prevent me from performing the Tawaf of the Kaba; I will spoil your trade with Sham. Umaiya kept on saying to Sad; Dont raise your voice. and kept on taking hold of him. Saad became furious and said; to Umaiya ; Be away from me; for I have heard Muhammad saying that he will kill you. Umaiiya said; Will he kill me? Saad said; Yes;. Umaiya said; By Allah! When Muhammad says a thing; he never tells a lie. Umaiya went to his wife and said to her; Do you know what my brother from Yathrib i.e. Medina has said to me? She said; What has he said? He said; He claims that he has heard Muhammad claiming that he will kill me. She said; By Allah! Muhammad never tells a lie. So when the infidels started to proceed for Badr Battle and declared war against the Muslims ; his wife said to him; Dont you remember what your brother from Yathrib told you? Umaiya decided not to go but Abu Jahl said to him; You are from the nobles of the valley of Mecca ; so you should accompany us for a day or two. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-4035Narrated Abu Mousa: We got the news of the migration of the Prophet ﷺ while we were in Yemen; so we set out migrating to him. We were; I and my two brothers; I being the youngest; and one of my brothers was Abu Burda and the other was Abu Ruhm. We were over fifty or fifty-three or fifty two men from our people. We got on board a ship which took us to AlNajashi in Ethiopia; and there we found Jafar Bin Abu Talib and his companions with AlNajaishi. Jafar said to us ; Allah Messenger ﷺ has sent us here and ordered us to stay here; so you too; stay with us. We stayed with him till we all left Ethiopia and met the Prophet ﷺ at the time when he had conquered Khaibar. He gave us a share from its booty or gave us from its booty. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-416Narrated Ayoub : Hafsa bint Seereen said; On Id we used to forbid our girls to go out for Id prayer. A lady came and stayed at the palace of Bani Khalaf and I went to her. She said; The husband of my sister took part in twelve holy battles along with the Prophet ﷺ and my sister was with her husband in six of them. My sister said that they used to nurse the sick and treat the wounded. Once she asked; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! If a woman has no veil; is there any harm if she does not come out on Id day ? The Prophet ﷺ said; Her companion should let her share her veil with her; and the women should participate in the good deeds and in the religious gatherings of the believers. Hafsa added; When Um-Atiya came; I went to her and asked her; Did you hear anything about so-and-so? Um-Atiya said; Yes; let my father be sacrificed for the Prophet ﷺ. And whenever she mentioned the name of the Prophet ﷺ she always used to say; Let my father be sacrificed for him. He said; Virgin mature girls staying often screened or said; Mature girls and virgins staying often screened-Aiyub is not sure as which was right and menstruating women should come out on the Id day. But the menstruating women should keep away from the Mousalla. And all the women should participate in the good deeds and in the religious gatherings of the believers. Hafsa said; On that I said to Um-Atiya; Also those who are menstruating? Um-Atiya replied; Yes. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-4845Narrated Abu Dhar: Once; while I was in the company of the Prophet; he saw the mountain of Uhud and said; I would not like to have this mountain turned into gold for me unless nothing of it; not even a single Dinar remains of it with me for more than three days i.e. I will spend all of it in Allah Cause ; except that Dinar which I will keep for repaying debts. Then he said; Those who are rich in this world would have little reward in the Hereafter except those who spend their money here and there in Allah Cause ; and they are few in number. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-4874Narrated AlBara: When the Prophet ﷺ intended to perform Umra in the month of Dh AlQada; the people of Mecca did not let him enter Mecca till he settled the matter with them by promising to stay in it for three days only. When the document of treaty was written; the following was mentioned: These are the terms on which Muhammad; Allah Messenger ﷺ agreed to make peace. They said; We will not agree to this; for if we believed that you are Allah Messenger ﷺ we would not prevent you; but you are Muhammad Bin Abdullah. The Prophet ﷺ said; I am Allah Messenger ﷺ and also Muhammad Bin Abdullah. Then he said to Ali; Rub off the words Allah Messenger ﷺ ; but Ali said; No; by Allah; I will never rub off your name. So; Allah Messenger ﷺ took the document and wrote; This is what Muhammad Bin Abdullah has agreed upon: No arms will be brought into Mecca except in their cases; and nobody from the people of Mecca will be allowed to go with him i.e. the Prophet ﷺ even if he wished to follow him and he the Prophet ﷺ will not prevent any of his companions from staying in Mecca if the latter wants to stay. When the Prophet ﷺ entered Mecca and the time limit passed; the Meccans went to Ali and said; Tell your Friend i.e. the Prophet ﷺ to go out; as the period agreed to has passed. So; the Prophet ﷺ went out of Mecca. The daughter of Hamza ran after them i.e. the Prophet ﷺ and his companions ; calling; O Uncle! O Uncle! Ali received her and led her by the hand and said to Fatima; Take your uncle daughter. Zaid and Jafar quarreled about her. Ali said; I have more right to her as she is my uncle daughter. Jafar said; She is my uncle daughter; and her aunt is my wife. Zaid said; She is my brother daughter. The Prophet ﷺ judged that she should be given to her aunt; and said that the aunt was like the mother. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-5174Narrated Abu Saeed AlKhudri: Allah Messenger ﷺ used to practice Itikaf in the Masjid in the middle third of Ramadan and after passing the twenty nights he used to go back to his house on the 21st; and the people who were in Itikaf with him also used to go back to their houses. Once in Ramadan; in which he practiced Itikaf; he established the night prayers at the night in which he used to return home; and then he addressed the people and ordered them whatever Allah wished him to order and said; I used to practice Itikaf for these ten days i.e. the middle third but now I intend to stay in Itikaf for the last ten days of the month ; so whoever was in Itikaf with me should stay at his place of seclusion. I have verily been shown the date of this Night of Qadr but I have forgotten it. So search for it in the odd nights of the last ten days of this month. I also saw myself in the dream prostrating in mud and water. On the night of the 21st; the sky was covered with clouds and it rained; and the rainwater started leaking through the roof of the Masjid at the praying place of the Prophet ﷺ. When Abu Bakr fever got worse; he would recite this poetic verse : Everybody is staying alive with his People; yet Death is nearer to him than His shoe laces. Abu Bakr came while Allah Messenger ﷺ was sleeping with his head on my thigh; He said; to me: You have detained Allah Messenger ﷺ and the people where there is no water and they have no water with them. So he admonished me and said what Allah wished him to say and hit me on my flank with his hand. Nothing prevented me from moving because of pain but the position of Allah Messenger ﷺ on my thigh. Allah Messenger ﷺ got up when dawn broke and there was no water. So Allah revealed the Divine Verses of Tayammum. So they all performed Tayammum. Usaid Bin Hudair said; O the family of Abu Bakr! This is not the first blessing of yours. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-5643Narrated Ayoub : Hafsa said; We used to forbid our young women to go out for the two Id prayers. A woman came and stayed at the palace of Bani Khalaf and she narrated about her sister whose husband took part in twelve holy battles along with the Prophet ﷺ and her sister was with her husband in six out of these twelve. She the woman sister said; We used to treat the wounded; look after the patients and once I asked the Prophet; Is there any harm for any of us to stay at home if she doesnt have a veil? He said; She should cover herself with the veil of her companion and should participate in the good deeds and in the religious gathering of the Muslims. The Hums used to give clothes to the men who would perform the Tawaf wearing them; and women of the Hums used to give clothes to the women who would perform the Tawaf wearing them. Those to whom the Hums did not give clothes would perform Tawaf round the Kaba naked. Most of the people used to go away disperse directly from Arafat but they Hums used to depart after staying at AlMuzdalifa. Once he told me that when the delegation of the tribe of Abdul Qais came to the Prophet; the Prophet ﷺ asked them; Who are the people i.e. you ? Or who are the delegate? They replied; We are from the tribe of Rabia. Then the Prophet ﷺ said to them; Welcome! O people or O delegation of Abdul Qais ! Neither will you have disgrace nor will you regret. They said; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! We cannot come to you except in the sacred month and there is the infidel tribe of Mudar intervening between you and us. So please order us to do something good religious deeds so that we may inform our people whom we have left behind at home ; and that we may enter Paradise by acting on them. Then they asked about drinks what is legal and what is illegal. The Prophet ﷺ ordered them to do four things and forbade them from four things. He ordered them to believe in Allah Alone and asked them; Do you know what is meant by believing in Allah Alone? They replied; Allah and His Apostle know better. Thereupon the Prophet ﷺ said; It means: 1. To testify that none has the right to be worshipped but Allah and Muhammad is Allah Messenger ﷺ. 2. To offer prayers perfectly 3. To pay the Zakat obligatory charity 4. To observe fast during the month of Ramadan. 5. And to pay AlKhumus one fifth of the booty to be given in Allah Cause. Then he forbade them four things; namely; Hantam; Dubba; Naqir Ann Muzaffat or Muqaiyar; These were the names of pots in which Alcoholic drinks were prepared The Prophet ﷺ mentioned the container of wine and he meant the wine itself. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-6306Narrated Abdullah Bin Masud: From Saad Bin Muadh: Saad Bin Muadh was an intimate friend of Umaiya Bin Khalaf and whenever Umaiya passed through Medina; he used to stay with Sad; and whenever Saad went to Mecca; he used to stay with Umaiya. When Allah Messenger ﷺ arrived at Medina; Saad went to perform Umra and stayed at Umaiya home in Mecca. He said to Umaiya; Tell me of a time when the Masjid is empty so that I may be able to perform Tawaf around the Kaba. So Umaiya went with him about midday. Abu Jahl met them and said; O Abu Safwan! Who is this man accompanying you? He said; He is Sad. Abu Jahl addressed Saad saying; I see you wandering about safely in Mecca inspite of the fact that you have given shelter to the people who have changed their religion i.e. became Muslims and have claimed that you will help them and support them. By Allah; if you were not in the company of Abu Safwan; you would not be able to go your family safely. Sad; raising his voice; said to him; By Allah; if you should stop me from doing this i.e. performing Tawaf I would certainly prevent you from something which is more valuable for you; that is; your passage through Medina. On this; Umaiya said to him; O Saad do not raise your voice before Abu AlHakam; the chief of the people of the Valley of Mecca. Saad said; O Umaiya; stop that! By Allah; I have heard Allah Messenger ﷺ predicting that the Muslim will kill you. Umaiya asked; In Mecca? Saad said; I do not know. Umaiya was greatly scared by that news. When Umaiya returned to his family; he said to his wife; O Um Safwan! Dont you know what Saad told me? She said; What has he told you? He replied; He claims that Muhammad has informed them i.e. companions that they will kill me. I asked him; In Mecca? He replied; I do not know. Then Umaiya added; By Allah; I will never go out of Mecca. But when the day of the Ghazwa of Badr came; Abu Jahl called the people to war; saying; Go and protect your caravan. But Umaiya disliked to go out of Mecca. Abu Jahl came to him and said; O Abu Safwan! If the people see you staying behind though you are the chief of the people of the Valley; then they will remain behind with you. Abu Jahl kept on urging him to go until he i.e. Umaiya said; As you have forced me to change my mind; by Allah; I will buy the best camel in Mecca. Then Umaiya said to his wife. O Um Safwan; prepare what I need for the journey. She said to him; O Abu Safwan! Have you forgotten what your Yathribi brother told you? He said; No; but I do not want to go with them but for a short distance. So when Umaiya went out; he used to tie his camel wherever he camped. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-6394Narrated AlBara: We faced the pagans on that day of the battle of Uhud and the Prophet ﷺ placed a batch of archers at a special place and appointed Abdullah bin Jubair as their commander and said; Do not leave this place; if you should see us conquering the enemy; do not leave this place; and if you should see them conquering us; do not come to help us; So; when we faced the enemy; they took to their heels till I saw their women running towards the mountain; lifting up their clothes from their legs; revealing their leg-bangles. The Muslims started saying; The booty; the booty! Abdullah Bin Jubair said; The Prophet ﷺ had taken a firm promise from me not to leave this place. But his companions refused to stay. So when they refused to stay there ; Allah confused them so that they could not know where to go; and they suffered seventy casualties. Abu Sufyan ascended a high place and said; Is Muhammad present amongst the people? The Prophet ﷺ said; Do not answer him. Abu Sufyan said; Is the son of Abu Quhafa present among the people? The Prophet ﷺ said; Do not answer him. Abu Sufyan said; Is the son of AlKhattab amongst the people? He then added; All these people have been killed; for; were they alive; they would have replied. On that; Umar could not help saying; You are a liar; O enemy of Allah! Allah has kept what will make you unhappy. Abu Sufyan said; Superior may be Hubal! On that the Prophet said to his companions ; Reply to him. They asked; What may we say? He said; Say: Allah is More Elevated and More Majestic! Abu Sufyan said; We have the idol AlUzza; whereas you have no Uzza! The Prophet ﷺ said to his companions ; Reply to him. They said; What may we say? The Prophet ﷺ said; Say: Allah is our Helper and you have no helper. Abu Sufyan said; This day compensates for our loss at Badr and in the battle the victory is always undecided and shared in turns by the belligerents. You will see some of your dead men mutilated; but neither did I urge this action; nor am I sorry for it. The chief of the pagans; Amir Bin AlTufail proposed three suggestions to the Prophet ﷺ saying; Choose one of three alternatives: 1 that the bedouins will be under your command and the townspeople will be under my command; 2 or that I will be your successor; 3 or otherwise I will attack you with two thousand from Bani Ghatafan. But Amir was infected with plague in the House of Um so-and-so. He said; Shall I stay in the house of a lady from the family of so-and-so after having a swelled gland like that camel? Get me my horse. So he died on the back of his horse. Then Haram; the brother of Um Sulaim and a lame man along with another man from so-and-so tribe went towards the pagans i.e. the tribe of Amir. Haram said to his companions ; Stay near to me; for I will go to them. If they i.e. infidels should give me protection; you will be near to me; and if they should kill me; then you should go back to your companions. Then Haram went to them and said; Will you give me protection so as to convey the message of Allah Messenger ﷺ ? So; he started talking to them but they signalled to a man to kill him and he went behind him and stabbed him with a spear. He i.e. Haram said; Allahu Akbar! I have succeeded; by the Lord of the Kaba! The companion of Haram was pursued by the infidels; and then they i.e. Haram companions were all killed except the lame man who was at the top of a mountain. Then Allah revealed to us a verse that was among the cancelled ones later on. It was: We have met our Lord and He is pleased with us and has made us pleased. After this event the Prophet ﷺ invoked evil on the infidels every morning for 30 days. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-651Narrated Sahl Bin Saad AlSaidi: Allah Messenger ﷺ went to establish peace among Bani Amr Bin Auf. In the meantime the time of prayer was due and the Muadh-dhin went to Abu Bakr and said; Will you lead the prayer; so that I may pronounce the Iqama? Abu Bakr replied in the affirmative and led the prayer. Allah Messenger ﷺ came while the people were still praying and he entered the rows of the praying people till he stood in the first row. The people clapped their hands. Abu Bakr never glanced sideways in his prayer but when the people continued clapping; Abu Bakr looked and saw Allah Messenger ﷺ. Allah Messenger ﷺ beckoned him to stay at his place. Abu Bakr raised his hands and thanked Allah for that order of Allah Messenger ﷺ and then he retreated till he reached the first row. Allah Messenger ﷺ went forward and led the prayer. When Allah Messenger ﷺ finished the prayer; he said; O Abu Bakr! What prevented you from staying when I ordered you to do so? Abu Bakr replied; How can Ibn Abi Quhafa Abu Bakr dare to lead the prayer in the presence of Allah Messenger ﷺ ? Then Allah Messenger ﷺ said; Why did you clap so much? If something happens to anyone during his prayer he should say Subhan Allah. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-6590Narrated AlBara: When the Prophet ﷺ went out for the Umra in the month of Dhal-Qada; the people of Mecca did not allow him to enter Mecca till he agreed to conclude a peace treaty with them by virtue of which he would stay in Mecca for three days only in the following year. When the agreement was being written; the Muslims wrote: This is the peace treaty; which Muhammad; Apostle of Allah has concluded. The infidels said to the Prophet ; We do not agree with you on this; for if we knew that you are Apostle of Allah we would not have prevented you for anything i.e. entering Mecca; etc. ; but you are Muhammad; the son of Abdullah. Then he said to Ali; Erase the name of Apostle of Allah. Ali said; No; by Allah; I will never erase you i.e. your name. Then Allah Messenger ﷺ took the writing sheet...and he did not know a better writing..and he wrote or got it the following written! This is the peace treaty which Muhammad; the son of Abdullah; has concluded: Muhammad should not bring arms into Mecca except sheathed swords; and should not take with him any person of the people of Mecca even if such a person wanted to follow him; and if any of his companions wants to stay in Mecca; he should not forbid him. In the next year when the Prophet ﷺ entered Mecca and the allowed period of stay elapsed; the infidels came to Ali and said Tell your companion Muhammad to go out; as the allowed period of his stay has finished. So the Prophet ﷺ departed from Mecca and the daughter of Hamza followed him shouting O Uncle; O Uncle! Ali took her by the hand and said to Fatima; Take the daughter of your uncle. So she made her ride on her horse. When they reached Medina Ali; Zaid and Jafar quarreled about her. Ali said; I took her for she is the daughter of my uncle. Jafar said; She is the daughter of my uncle and her aunt is my wife. Zaid said; She is the daughter of my brother. On that; the Prophet ﷺ gave her to her aunt and said; The aunt is of the same status as the mother. He then said to Ali; You are from me; and I am from you; and said to Jafar; You resemble me in appearance and character; and said to Zaid; You are our brother and our freed slave. Ali said to the Prophet Wont you marry the daughter of Hamza?
