SahihAlBukhari-017-001-2898Narrated Ibn Abbas: For one year I wanted to ask Umar about the two women who helped each other against the Prophet ﷺ but I was afraid of him. One day he dismounted his riding animal and went among the trees of Arak to answer the call of nature; and when he returned; I asked him and he said; They were Aisha and Hafsa. Then he added; We never used to give significance to ladies in the days of the Pre-lslamic period of ignorance; but when Islam came and Allah mentioned their rights; we used to give them their rights but did not allow them to interfere in our affairs. Once there was some dispute between me and my wife and she answered me back in a loud voice. I said to her; Strange! You can retort in this way? She said; Yes. Do you say this to me while your daughter troubles Allah Messenger ﷺ ? So I went to Hafsa and said to her; I warn you not to disobey Allah and His Apostle. I first went to Hafsa and then to Umm Salamah and told her the same. She said to me; O Umar! It surprises me that you interfere in our affairs so much that you would poke your nose even into the affairs of Allah Messenger ﷺ and his wives. So she rejected my advice. There was an Ansari man; whenever he was absent from Allah Messenger ﷺ and I was present there; I used to convey to him what had happened on that day ; and when I was absent and he was present there; he used to convey to me what had happened as regards news from Allah Messenger ﷺ. During that time all the rulers of the nearby lands had surrendered to Allah Messenger ﷺ except the king of Ghassan in Sham; and we were afraid that he might attack us. All of a sudden the Ansari came and said; A great event has happened! I asked him; What is it? Has the Ghassani king come? He said; Greater than that! Allah Messenger ﷺ has divorced his wives! I went to them and found all of them weeping in their dwellings; and the Prophet ﷺ had ascended to an upper room of his. At the door of the room there was a slave to whom I went and said; Ask the permission for me to enter. He admitted me and I entered to see the Prophet ﷺ lying on a mat that had left its imprint on his side. Under his head there was a leather pillow stuffed with palm fires. Behold! There were some hides hanging there and some grass for tanning. Then I mentioned what I had said to Hafsa and Umm Salamah and what reply Umm Salamah had given me. Allah Messenger ﷺ smiled and stayed there for twenty nine days and then came down. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-3135Narrated Ubaid Bin Umar: I heard Aisha saying; The Prophet ﷺ used to stay for a long while with Zanab bint Jahsh and drink honey at her house. So Hafsa and I decided that if the Prophet ﷺ came to anyone of us; she should say him; I detect the smell of Maghafir a nasty smelling gum in you. Have you eaten Maghafir? So the Prophet ﷺ visited one of them and she said to him similarly. The Prophet ﷺ said; Never mind; I have taken some honey at the house of Zainab bint Jahsh; but I shall never drink of it anymore. So there was revealed: O Prophet ! Why do you ban for you that which Allah has made lawful for you... If you two wives of Prophet turn in repentance to Allah; 66.1-4 addressing Aisha and Hafsa. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-3207Narrated Mujahid: regarding the Verse : If any of you dies and leaves wives behind; That was the period of the Iddah which the widow was obliged to spend in the house of the late husband. Then Allah revealed: And those of you who die and leave wives should bequeath for their wives a year maintenance and residence without turning them out; but if they leave; there is no blame on you for what they do of themselves; provided it is honorable i.e. lawful marriage 2.240 Mujahid said: Allah has ordered that a widow has the right to stay for seven months and twenty days with her husband relatives through her husband will and testament so that she will complete the period of one year of Iddah. But the widow has the right to stay that extra period or go out of her husband house as is indicated by the statement of Allah: But if they leave there is no blame on you;... 2.240 Ibn Abbas said: The above Verse has cancelled the order of spending the period of the Iddah at her late husband house; and so she could spend her period of the Iddah wherever she likes. And Allah says: Without turning them out. Ata said: If she would; she could spend her period of the Iddah at her husband house; and live there according to her husbands will and testament; and if she would; she could go out of her husband house as Allah says: There is no blame on you for what they do of themselves. 2.240 Ata added: Then the Verses of inheritance were revealed and the order of residence for the widow was cancelled; and she could spend her period of the Iddah wherever she would like; and she was no longer entitled to be accommodated by her husband family. The Chapter on Marriage And Iddah in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on And those of you who die and leave behind wives in Sahih AlBukhari

SahihAlBukhari-017-001-3579Narrated Ibn Abbas: I had been eager to ask Umar Bin AlKhattab about the two ladies from among the wives of the Prophet regarding whom Allah said If you two wives of the Prophet ﷺ namely Aisha and Hafsa turn in repentance to Allah; your hearts are indeed so inclined to oppose what the Prophet ﷺ likes. 66.4 till Umar performed the Hajj and I too; performed the Hajj along with him. On the way Umar went Aasi de to answer the call of nature; and I also went Aasi de along with him carrying a tumbler full of water; and when Umar had finished answering the call of nature; I poured water over his hands and he performed the ablution. Then I said to him; O chief of the Believers! Who were the two ladies from among the wives of the Prophet ﷺ regarding whom Allah said: If you two wives of the Prophet turn in repentance to Allah your hearts are indeed so inclined to oppose what the Prophet ﷺ likes ? 66.4 He said; I am astonished at your question; O Ibn Abbas. They were Aisha and Hafsa. Then Umar went on narrating the Hadith and said; I and an Ansari neighbor of mine from Bani Umaiya Bin Zaid who used to live in Awali AlMedina; used to visit the Prophet ﷺ in turn. He used to go one day and I another day. When I went; I would bring him the news of what had happened that day regarding the Divine Inspiration and other things; and when he went; he used to do the same for me. We; the people of Quraish used to have the upper hand over our wives; but when we came to the Ansar; we found that their women had the upper hand over their men; so our women also started learning the ways of the Ansari women. I shouted at my wife and she retorted against me and I disliked that she should answer me back. She said to me; Why are you so surprised at my answering you back? By Allah; the wives of the Prophet answer him back and some of them may leave does not speak to him throughout the day till the night. The talk scared me and I said to her; Whoever has done so will be ruined! Then I proceeded after dressing myself; and entered upon Hafsa and said to her; Does anyone of you keep the Prophet ﷺ angry till night? She said; Yes. I said; You are a ruined losing person! Dont you fear that Allah may get angry for the anger of Allah Messenger ﷺ and thus you will be ruined? So do not ask more from the Prophet ﷺ and do not answer him back and do not give up talking to him. Ask me whatever you need and do not be tempted to imitate your neighbor i.e.; Aisha in her manners for she is more charming than you and more beloved to the Prophet ﷺ. Umar added; At that time a talk was circulating among us that the tribe of Ghassan were preparing their horses to invade us. My Ansari companion; on the day of his turn; went to the town and returned to us at night and knocked at my door violently and asked if I was there. I became horrified and came out to him. He said; Today a great thing has happened. I asked; What is it? Have the people of Ghassan come? He said; No; but What has happened is greater and more horrifying than that: Allah Messenger ﷺ ; has divorced his wives. Umar added; The Prophet ﷺ kept away from his wives and I said Hafsa is a ruined loser. I had already thought that most probably this divorce would happen in the near future. So I dressed myself and offered the morning prayer with the Prophet ﷺ and then the Prophet; entered an upper room and stayed there in seclusion. I entered upon Hafsa and saw her weeping. I asked; What makes you weep? Did I not warn you about that? Did the Prophet ﷺ divorce you all? She said; I do not know. There he is retired alone in the upper room. I came out and sat near the pulpit and saw a group of people sitting around it and some of them were weeping. I sat with them for a while but could not endure the situation; so I went to the upper room where the Prophet; was and said to a black slave of his; Will you get the permission of the Prophet ﷺ for Umar to enter ? The slave went in; talked to the Prophet ﷺ about it and then returned saying; I have spoken to the Prophet ﷺ and mentioned you but he kept quiet. Then I returned and sat with the group of people sitting near the pulpit. but I could not bear the situation and once again I said to the slave; Will you get the permission for Umar? He went in and returned saying; I mentioned you to him but he kept quiet. So I returned again and sat with the group of people sitting near the pulpit; but I could not bear the situation; and so I went to the slave and said; Will you get the permission for Umar? He went in and returned to me saying; I mentioned you to him but he kept quiet. When I was leaving; behold! The slave called me; saying; The Prophet ﷺ has given you permission. Then I entered upon Allah Messenger ﷺ and saw him Lying on a bed made of stalks of date palm leaves and there was no bedding between it and him. The stalks left marks on his side and he was leaning on a leather pillow stuffed with date-palm fires. I greeted him and while still standing I said; O Allah Apostle! Have you divorced your wives? He looked at me and said; No. I said; Allah Akbar! And then; while still standing; I said chatting; Will you heed what I say; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ? We; the people of Quraish used to have power over our women; but when we arrived at Medina we found that the men here were overpowered by their women. The Prophet ﷺ smiled and then I said to him; Will you heed what I say; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ? I entered upon Hafsa and said to her; Do not be tempted to imitate your companion Aisha ; for she is more charming than you and more beloved to the Prophet. The Prophet ﷺ smiled for a second time. When I saw him smiling; I sat down. Then I looked around his house; and by Allah; I could not see anything of importance in his house except three hides; so I said; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! Invoke Allah to make your followers rich; for the Persians and the Romans have been made prosperous and they have been given the pleasures of the world ; although they do not worship Allah. Thereupon the Prophet ﷺ sat up as he was reclining. and said; Are you of such an opinion; O the son of AlKhattab? These are the people who have received the rewards for their good deeds in this world. I said; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! Ask Allah to forgive me. Then the Prophet ﷺ kept away from his wives for twenty-nine days because of the story which Hafsa had disclosed to Aisha. The Prophet ﷺ had said; I will not enter upon them my wives for one month; because of his anger towards them; when Allah had admonished him. So; when twenty nine days had passed; the Prophet ﷺ first entered upon Aisha. Aisha said to him; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! You had sworn that you would not enter upon us for one month; but now only twenty-nine days have passed; for I have been counting them one by one. The Prophet ﷺ said; The present month is of twenty nine days. Aisha added; Then Allah revealed the Verses of the option. 2 And out of all his-wives he asked me first; and I chose him. Then he gave option to his other wives and they said what Aisha had said. 1 The Prophet; had decided to abstain from eating a certain kind of food because of a certain event; so Allah blamed him for doing so. Some of his wives were the cause of him taking that decision; therefore he deserted them for one month. Allah Messenger ﷺ permitted her to enter as she Aisha was along with Allah Messenger ﷺ in her mantle; in the same very state when Fatima had entered. SahihMuslim-017-001-21516Umar Bin AlKhattab Allah be pleased with him reported: When Allah Apostle ﷺ kept himself away from his wives; I entered the Masjid; and found people striking the ground with pebblesand saying: Allah Messenger ﷺ has divorced his wives; and that was before they were commanded to observe seclusion Umar said to himself: I must find this actual position today. So I went to Aisha Allah be pleased with her and said to her : Daughter of Abu Bakr; have you gone to the extent of giving trouble to Allah Messenger ﷺ ? Thereupon she said: Son of AlKhattab; you have nothing to do with me; and I have nothing to do with you. You should look to your own receptacle. He Umar said: I visited Hafsa daughter of Umar; and said to her: Hafsa; the news has reached me that you cause Allah Messenger ﷺ trouble. You know that Allah Messenger ﷺ does not love you; and had I not been your father he would have divorced you. On hearing this she wept bitterly. I said to her: Where is Allah Messenger ﷺ ? Shesaid: He is in the attic room. I went in and found Rabah; the servant of Allah Messenger ﷺ ; sitting on the thresholds of the window dangling his feet on the hollow wood of the date-palm with the help of which Allah Messenger ﷺ climbed to the apartment and came down. I cried: 0 Rabah; seek permission for me from Allah Messenger way ﷺ. Rabah cast a glance at the apartment and then looked toward me but said nothing. I again said: Rabah; seek permission for me from Allah Messenger ﷺ. Rabah looked towards the apartment and then cast a glance at me; but said nothig. I then raised my voice and said: 0 Rabah; seek permission for me from Allah Messenger ﷺ. I think that Allah Messenger ﷺ is under the impression that I have come for the sake of Hafsa. By Allah; if Allah Messenger ﷺ would command me to strike her neck; I would certainly strike her neck. I raised my voice and he pointed me to climb up and get into his apartment. I visited Allah Messenger ﷺ ; and he was lying on a mat. I sat down and he drew up his lower garment over him and he had nothing else over him; and that the mat had left its marks on his sides. I looked with my eyes in the store room of Allah Messenger ﷺ. I found only a handful of barley equal to one sa and an equal quantity of the leaves of Mimosa Flava placed in the nook of the cell; and a semi-tanned leather bag hanging in one side ; and I was moved to tears on seeing this extremely austere living of the Holy Piophet ; and he said: Ibn AlKhattab; what wakes you weep? I said: Apostle of Allah; why should I not shed tears? This mat has left its marks on your sides and I do not see in your store room except these few things that I have seen; Ceasar and Closroes are leading their lives in plenty whereas you are Allah Messenger. His chosen one; and that is your store! He said: Ibn AlKhattab; arent you satisfied that for us there should be the prosperity of the Hereafter; and for them there should be the prosperity of this world? I said: Yes. And as I had entered I had seen the signs of anger on his face; and I therefore; said: Messenger of Allah; what trouble do you feel from your wives; and if youhave divorced them; verily Allah is with you; His angels; Gabriel; Mikail; I and Abu Bakr and the believers are with you. And seldom I talked and which I uttered on that day I hoped that Allah would testify to my words that I uttered. And so the verse of option Ayat AlTakhyir was revealed. Maybe his Lord; if he divorce you; will give him in your place wives better than you... Ixv. 5. And if you back up one another against him; then surely Allah is his Patron; and Gabriel and the righteous believers; and the angels after that are the aidera lvi. 4. And it was Aisha; daughter of Abu Bakr; and Hafsa who had prevailed upon all the wives of Allah Prophet way ﷺ for pressing them for mote money. I said: Messenger of Allah; have you divorced them? He said: No. I said: Messenger of Allah; I entered the Masjid and found the Muslims playing with pebbles absorbed in thought and saying: Allah Messenger has divorced his wives. Should I get down and inform there that you have not divorced them? He said: Yes; if you so like. And I went on talking to him until I found the signs of anger disappeared on his face and his seriousness was changed to a happy mood and as a result thereof his face had the natural tranquillity upon it and he laughed and his teeth were the most charming among the teeth of all people. Then Allah Apostle ﷺ climbed down and I also climbed down and catching hold of the wood of the palm-tree and Allah Messenger ﷺ came down with such ease as if he was walking on the ground; not touching anything with his hand to get support. I said: Messenger of Allah; you remained in your apartment for twenty-nine days. He said: At times the month consists of twenty-nine days. I stood at the door of the Masjid and I called out at the top of my voice: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ has not divorced his wives and it was on this occasion that this verse was revealed: And if any matter pertaining to peace or alarm comes within their ken; they broadcast it; whereas; if they would refer it to the Apostle and those who have been entrusted with authority amongst them; those of them who are engaged in obtaining intelligence would indeed know what to do with it iv 83. And it was I who understood this matter; and Allah revealed the verse pertaining to option given to the Prophet ﷺ in regard to the retaining or divorcing of his wives. The Chapter on Wives And Relationship Mothers in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on 5 in Sahih Muslim
SahihMuslim-017-001-21517Abdullah Bin Abbas Allah be pleased with tlicm reported: I intended to ask Umar Bin AlKhattab Allah be pleased with him about a verse; but I waited for one year to ask him out of his fear; until he went out for Pilgrimage and I also accompanied him. As he came back and we were on the way he stepped Aasi de towards an Arak tree to ease himself. I waited for him until he was free. I then walked along with him and said: Commander of the Faithful; who are the two among the wives of Allah Messenger ﷺ who backed up one another in their demand for extra money ? He said: They were Hafsa and Aisha Allah be pleased with them. I said to him: It is for one year that I intended to ask you about this matter but I could not date so on account of the awe for you. He said: Dont do that. If you think that I have any knowledge; do ask me about that. And if I were to know that; I would inform you. He the narrator stated that Umar had said: By Allah; during the days of ignorance we had no regard for women until Allah the Exalt- ed revealed about them what He has revealed; and appointed turn for them what he appointed. He said: It so happened that I was thinking about some matter that my wife said: I wish you had done that and that. I said to her: It does not concern you and you should not feel disturbed in a matter which I intend to do. She said to me: How strange is it that you; O son of AlKhattab; do not like anyone to retort upon you; whereas your daughter retorts upon Allah Messenger may peace be upou him until he spends the day in vexation. Umar said: I took hold of my cloak; then came out of my house until I visited Hafsa and said to her: O daughter; I heard that you retort upon Allah Messenger ﷺ until he spends the day in vexation; whereupon Hafsa said: By Allah; we do retort upon him. I said: You should bear in mind; my daughter; that I warn you against the punishment of Allah and the wrath of His Messenger ﷺ. You may not be misled by one whose beauty has fascinated her; and the love of Allah Messenger ﷺ for her. I Umar then visited Umm Salamah because of my relationship with her and I talked to her. Umm Salamah said to me: Umar Bin AlKhattab; how strange is it that you meddle with every matter so much so that you are anxious to interfere between Allah Messenger ﷺ and his wives; and this perturbed me so much that I refrained from saying what I had to say; so I came out of her apartment; and I had a friend from the Anar. When I had been absent from the company of the Holy Prophet he used to bring me the news and when he had been absent I used to bring him the news; and at that time we dreaded a king of Ghassan. It was mentioned to us that he intended to attack us; and our minds were haunted by him. My friend; the Ansari; came to me; and he knocked at the door and said: Open it; open it. I said: Has the Ghassani come? He said: The matter is more serious than that. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ has separated himself from his wives. I said: Let the nose of Hafsa and Aisha be besmeared with dust. I then took hold of my cloth and went out until I came and found Allah Messenger ﷺ in his attic to which he climbed by means of a ladder made of date-palm; and the servant of Allah Messenger ﷺ who was black had been sitting at the end of the ladder. I said: This is Umar. So permission was granted to me. I narrated this news to Allah Messenger ﷺ and as I narrated the news concerning Umm Salamah; Allah Messenger ﷺ smiled. He was lying on the mat and there was nothing between him and that mat ; and under his head there was a pillow made of leather and it was stuffed with plam fibres and at his feet were lying a heap of sant tree acacia niloctica; meant for dyeing and near his head there was hanging a hide. And I saw the marks of the maton the side of Allah Messenger ﷺ ; and so I wept. He said: What makes you weep? I said: Messenger of Allah; the Khusrau and the Ceasars spendd their lives in the midst of luxuries ; whereas you being Allah Messenger are leading your life in this poverty. Thereupon Allah Messenger ﷺ said: Dont you like that they should have riches of their world; and you have the Hereafter. The Chapter on Parents And Alhajj in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on 5 in Sahih Muslim
SahihMuslim-017-001-21520Ibn Abbas Allah be pleased with them reported. I had always been anxious to ask Umar Allah be pleased with him about the two ladies amongst the wives of Allah Prophet may peace be upon Lim about whom Allah; the Exalted; said: If you both turn in repentance to Allah; then indeed your hearts are inclined to this Ixvi. 4 ; until Umar Allah be pleased with him set out for Hajj and I also went along with him. And as we were going along a path; Umar Allah be pleased with hiyn went Aasi de and I also went Aasi de with him with a jug of water. He answered the call of nature; and then came to me and I poured water over his hands and he performed ablution I said: Commander of the Faithful; who are the two ladies amongst the wives of Allah Prophet ﷺ about whom Allah; the Exalted and Majestic; said: If you both turn to Allah in repentance; then indeed your heart are inclined to it? Umar Allah he pleased with him said: How strange is it for you; Ibn Abbas! Zuhri said: By Allah; he disliked what he asked about; but did not keep it a secret. He Umar said: They are Hafsa and Aisha; and he then began to narrate the hadith and said: We were such people among the Quraish who dominated women; and as we reached Medina we found there people who were dominated by their women; and our women began to learn the habits of their women. He further said: And my house was situated in the suburb of Aledina in the tribe of Banu Umaya Bin Zaid. One day I became angry with my wife and she retorted upon me. I did not like that she should retort upon me. She said: You disapprove of my retorting upon you By Allah; the wives of Allah Apostle ﷺ retort upon him; and one of them detaches herself from him for the day until the night. So I Umar went out and visited Hafsa and said: Do you retort upon Allah Messenger ﷺ ? She said: Yes. I said; Does any one of you detach herself from him from the day to the night? She said: Yes. He said: She who did like it amongst you in fact failed and incurred loss. Does everyone amongst you not fear the wrath of Allah upon her due to the wrath of His Messenger ﷺ ; and as a result thereof she may perish? So do not retort upon Allah Messenger ﷺ and do not ask him for anything; but ask me that which you desire; and the frank behaviour of your companion may not mislead you; if she is more graceful and is dearer to Allah Messenger ﷺ than you meaning Aisha Allah be pleased with her. He Hadrat Umar further said: I had a compalaion from the Ansar and; we used to remain in the company of the Messenger ﷺ turn by turn. He remained there for a day while I remained there on the other day; and he brought me the news about the revelation and other matter ; and I brought him the news like this. And we discussed that the Ghassanids were shoeing the horses in order to attack us. Id y companion once attended the Apostle. and then came to me at night and knocked at my door and called me; and I came out to him; and he said: A matter of great importance has happened. I said: What is that? Have the Ghassanids come? He said: No; but even more serious and more significant than that: the Prophet ﷺ has divorced his wives. I said: Hafsa has failed and has incurred loss. and I feared that it would happen. When it was dawn I observed the dawn prayer and dressed myself; and then came there in the house of the Holy Prophet and visited Hafsa; and she was weeping. I said: Has Allah Messenger ﷺ divorced you all ? She said: I do not know. He has; however; separated himself in his attic. I came to a black servant and said to him: Seek permission for Umar. He went in and then came to me and said: I made mention of you to him; but he kept quiet. I then went to the pulpit and sat there; and there was a group of people sitting by it and some of then were weeping. I sat there for some time; until I was overpowered by that very idea which was in my mind. I then came back to the boy and said to him: Seek permission for Umar. He went in and came to me and said: I made mention of you to him but he kept quiet. I was about to turn back when the boy called me and said: Go in; permission has been granted to you. I went in and greeted Allah Messenger ﷺ and he was reclining against the couch of mat and it had left its marks upon his side. I said: Messenger of Allah; have you divorced your wives? He raised his head towards me and said: No. I said: Allah is the Greatest. Messenger of Allah; I wish if you had seen how we the people of Quraish had domination over women but when we came to Medina we found people whom their women dominated. So our women began to learn from their women. One dily I became angry with my wife and she began to retort upon me. I did not approve that she should retort upon me. She said: You do not like that I should retort upon you; but; by Allah. the wives of Allah Apostle ﷺ retort upon him and any one of them separates herself from him for a day until night. I said: He who did that amongst them in fact failed and incurred loss. Does any of them feel sate from the wrath of Allahupon her due to the wrath of Allah Messenger ﷺ ; and she has certainly perished. Allah Messtnger ﷺ smiled; I said: Messenger of Allah; I visited Hafsa and said: The behaviour of your companion Aisha may not mislead you; If she is more graceful than you and is dearer to Allah Messenger ﷺ than you. Allah Messenger ﷺ smiled for the second time. I said: Allah Messenger; way I talk to you about agreeable things? He said: Yes. I sat down and lifted my head to see things in the house and; by Allah; I did not see anything significant besides three hides. I said: Messenger of Allah; supplicate the Lord that He should make life prosperous for your Ummah as He has made plentiful for the people of Persia and Rome in spite of the fact that they do no; worship Allah; the Exalted and Majestic; whereupon he Allah Messenger sat up an I then said: Ibn AlKhattab; do you doubt that they are a nation whom their nice things have been given immediately in the life of this world. I said: Allah Messenger! seek pardon for me. And he Allah Messenger had taken an oath that he would not visit them for a month due to extreme annoyance with them until Allah showed His displeasure to him Allah Messenger. Zuhri said: Urwa informed me that AIsha Allah be pleased with her said: When twenty-nine nights were over; Allah Messenger ﷺ visited me; and he began his visit with me. I said: Messenger of Allah; you had taken an oath that you would not visit us for a month; while you have visited after I have counted only twenty-nine nights. Thereupon he said: The month may also be of twenty-nine days. He then said: Aisha; I am going to talk to you about a matter; and you should not be hasty in it and do not give your final decision until you have consulted your parents. He then recited this verse to me: O Prophet; say to your wives till he reached mighty reward xxxiii. 28. Aisha Allah be pleased with her said: By Allah; he knew that my parents would not allow me to separate from him. I said: Is there any need to consult my parents in this matter? I in fact choose Allah and His Messenger ﷺ and the abode in the Hereafter. Mamar said: Ayoub reported to me that Aisha said: Dont inform your wives that I have chosen you; whereupon Allah Apostle ﷺ said: Verily Allah has sent me as a conveyer of message; and He has not sent me as a source of hardship to others. They the participants of the funeral did accordingly; and it was placed in front of their apartments and they offered prayer for him. It was brought out of the door known as Bab AlJanaiz which was towards the side of Maqaid; and the news reached them the wives of the Holy Prophet that the people bad criticised this i. e. offering of funeral prayer in the Masjid saying that it was not desirable to take the bier inside the Masjid. This was conveyed to Aisha. She said: How hastily the people criticise that about which they know little. They criticise us for carrying the bier in the Masjid. SunanAlNasai-017-001-13888Aisha said: The wives of the Prophet sent Fatimah; the daughter of the Messenger of Allah; to the Messenger of Allah. She asked permission to enter when he was lying with me under my cover. He gave her permission to enter; and she said: O Messenger of Allah; your wives have sent me to you to ask you to be equitable with regard to the matter of the daughter of Abu Quhafah. I Aisha kept quiet and the Messenger of Allah said to her: O my daughter! Do you not love the one whom I love? She said: Yes. He said: Then love this one. Fatimah stood up when she heard this and left the Messenger of Allah; and went back to the wives of the Prophet. She told them what she had said; and what he had said to her. They said to her: We do not think that you have been of any avail to us. Go back to the Messenger of Allah and say to him: Your wives are urging you to be equitable with regard to the matter of the daughter of Abu Quhafah. Fatimah said: No; by Allah; I will never speak to him about her again. Aisha said: So the wives of the Prophet sent Zainab bint Jahsh to the Messenger of Allah; she was one who was somewhat equal to me in rank in the eyes of the Messenger of Allah. And I have never seen a woman who was better in religious commitment than Zainab; more fearing of Allah; more honest in speech; more dutiful in upholding the ties of kinship; more generous in giving charity; and devoted in giving of herself in acts of charity; by means of which she sought to draw closer to Allah. But she was quick-tempered; however; she was also quick to calm down. She asked permission to enter upon the Messenger of Allah when he was with Aisha under her cover; in the same situation as when Fatimah had entered. The Messenger of Allah gave her permission to enter and she said: O Messenger of Allah; your wives have sent me to ask you to be equitable with regard to the matter of the daughter of Abu Quhafah. Then she verbally abused me at length; and I was watching the Messenger of Allah to see if he would allow me to respond. Zainab went on until I realized that the Messenger of Allah would not disapprove if I responded. Then I spoke back to her in such a way; until I silenced her. They told her to say: Your wives -and he the narrator said something to the effect that they are urging you to be equitable with regard to the matter of the daughter of Abu Quhafah. She said: So she entered upon the Prophet when he was with Aisha under her cover. She said to him: Your wives have sent me and they are urging you to be equitable with regard to the matter of the daughter of Abu Quhafah. The Prophet said to her: Do you love me? She said: Yes. He said: Then love her. So she went back to them and told them what he said. They said to her: You did not do anything; go back to him. She said: By Allah; I will never go back and speak to him about her again. She was truly the daughter of the Messenger of Allah. So they sent Zainab bint Jahsh. Aisha said: She was somewhat my equal among the wives of the Prophet. She said: Your wives have sent me to urge you to be equitable with regard to the matter of the daughter of Abu Quhafa. Then she swooped on me and abused me; and I started watching the Prophet to see if he would give me permission to respond to her. She insulted me and I started to think that he would not disapprove if I responded to her. So I insulted her and I soon silenced her. Then the Prophet said to her: She is the daughter of Abu Bakr. Aisha said: And I never saw any woman who was better; more generous in giving charity; more keen to uphold the ties of kinship; and more generous in giving of herself in everything by means of which she could draw closer to Allah than Zainab. I said: Do I need to consult my parents concerning this? I desire Allah; the Mighty and Sublime; and His Messenger; and the home of the Hereafter. MuwataMalik-017-001-34495Yahya related to me from Malik from Abdullah Ibn Abi Bakr Ibn Hazim from his father that Amr Ibn Sulaym AlZuraqi said; Abu Humayd AlSaidi told me that they asked the Messenger of Allah; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; how they were to ask for blessings upon him and he replied that they should say; O Allah; bless Muhammad and his wives and his descendants asYou blessed the family of Ibrahim; and give baraka to Muhammad and his wives and his descendants as You gave baraka to the family of Ibrahim. MuwataMalik-017-001-35026Yahya related to me from Malik from Ibn Shihab that he was asked about the suckling of an older person. He said; Urwa Ibn AlZubair informed me that Abu Hudhayfa Ibn Utba Ibn Rabia; one of the companions of the Messenger of Allah; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; who was present at Badr; adopted Salim who is called Salim; the mawla of Abu Hudhayfa as the Messenger of Allah; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; adopted Zayd Ibn Haritha. He thought of him as his son; and Abu Hudhayfa married him to his brother sister; Fatima bint AlWalid Ibn Utba Ibn Rabia; who was at that time among the first emigrants. She was one of the best unmarried women of the Quraysh. When Allah the Exalted sent down in His Book what He sent down about Zayd Ibn Haritha; Call them after their true fathers. That is more equitable in the sight of Allah. If you do not know who their fathers were then they are your brothers in the deen and your mawali; Surat 33 ayat 5 people in this position were traced back to their fathers. When the father was not known; they were traced to their mawla. Sahla bint Suhayl who was the wife of Abu Hudhayfa; and one of the tribe of Amr Ibn Luay; came to the Messenger of Allah; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; and said; Messenger of Allah! We think of Salim as a son and he comes in to see me while I am uncovered. We only have one room; so what do you think about the situation? The Messenger of Allah; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; said; Give him five drinks of your milk and he will be mahram by it. She then saw him as a foster son. Aisha umm Almuminin took that as a precedent for whatever men she wanted to be able to come to see her. She ordered her sister; Umm Kulthum bint Abi Bakr AlSiddiq and the daughters of her brother to give milk to whichever men she wanted to be able to come in to see her. The rest of the wives of the Prophet; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; refused to let anyone come in to them by such nursing. They said; No! By Allah! We think that what the Messenger of Allah; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; ordered Sahla bint Suhayl to do was only an indulgence concerning the nursing of Salim alone. No! By Allah! No one will come in upon us by such nursing! This is what the wives of the Prophet; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; thought about the suckling of an older person. The Chapter on Permission To Enter The House in HodHood Indexing, The Book of Setting Free and Wala in Muwata Malik
MuwataMalik-017-001-35209Yahya related to me from Malik from Hisham Ibn Urwa that his father said that a man who pronounced a dhihar from his four wives in one statement; had only to do one kaffara. Yahya related the same as that to me from Malik from Rabia Ibn Abi Abdulrahman Malik said; That is what is done among us. Allah; the Exalted said about the kaffara for pronouncing dhihar; It is to free a slave before they touch one another. If he does not find the means to do that; then fasting for two consecutive months before they touch one another. If he cannot do that; it is to feed sixty poor people. Surat 58 ayats 4;5. Malik said that a man who pronounced dhihar from his wife on various occasions had only to do one kaffara. If he pronounced dhihar; and then did kaffara; and then pronounced dhihar after he had done the kaffara; he had to do kaffara again. Malik said; Some one who pronounces dhihar from his wife and then has intercourse with her before he has done kaffara; only has to do one kaffara. He must abstain from her until he does kaffara and ask forgiveness of Allah. That is the best of what I have heard. Malik said; It is the same with dhihar using any prohibited relations of fosterage and ancestry. Malik said; Women have no dhihar. Malik said that he had heard that the commentary on the word of Allah; the Blessed; the Exalted; Those of you who pronounce the dhihar about their wives; and then retract what they have said; Surat 56 ayat 3 ; was that a man pronounced dhihar on his wife and then decided to keep her and have intercourse with her. If he decided on that; he must do kaffara. If he divorced her and did not decide to retract his dhihar of her and to keep her and have intercourse with her; there would be no kaffara incumbent on him. Maliksaid; If he marries her after that; he does not touch her until he has completed the kaffara of pronouncing dhihar. Malik said that if a man who pronounced dhihar from his slave-girl wanted to have intercourse with her; he had to do the kaffara of the dhihar before he could sleep with her. Malik said; There is no ila in a man dhihar unless it is evident that he does not intend to retract his dhihar. The Chapter on Wives And Relationship Pronouncing Dhiar in HodHood Indexing, The Book of Marriage in Muwata Malik

MuwataMalik-017-001-35593Yahya related to me from Malik from Zayd Ibn Aslam from his father that he said to Umar Ibn AlKhattab; There is a blind camel behind the house; soUmar said; Hand it over to a household so that they can make some use of it. He said; But she is blind. Umar replied; Then put it in a line with other camels. He said; How will it be able to eat from the ground? Umar asked; Is it from the livestock of the jizya or the zakat? and Aslam replied; From the livestock of the jizya. Umar said; By AIIah; you wish to eat it. Aslam said; It has the brand of the jizya on it. So Umar ordered it to be slaughtered. He had nine platters; and on each of the platters he put some of every fruit and delicacy that there was and then sent them to the wives of the Prophet; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; and the one he sent to his daughter Hafsa was the last of them all; and if there was any deficiency in any of them it was in Hafsa portion. He put meat from the slaughtered animal on the platters and sent them to the wives of the Prophet; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; and he ordered what was left of the meat of the slaughtered animal to be prepared. Then he invited the Muhajirun and the Ansar to eat it.
