Hadith PageArabic TextEnglish TranslationBook and Chapter
SahihAlBukhari-017-001-029Narrated Salim father: In the lifetime of the Prophet ﷺ whosoever saw a dream would narrate it to Allah Messenger ﷺ. I had a wish of seeing a dream to narrate it to Allah Messenger ﷺ ﷺ I was a grown up boy and used to sleep in the Masjid in the lifetime of the Prophet. I saw in the dream that two angels caught hold of me and took me to the Fire which was built all round like a built well and had two poles in it and the people in it were known to me. I started saying; I seek refuge with Allah from the Fire. Then I met another angel who told me not to be afraid. I narrated the dream to Hafsa who told it to Allah Messenger ﷺ. The Prophet said; Abdullah is a good man. I wish he prayed Tahajjud. After that Abdullah i.e. Salim father used to sleep but a little at night. The Chapter on Charity To Save Oneself From Hell Fire in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on The superiority of Tahajjud prayer in Sahih AlBukhari
SahihAlBukhari-017-001-102Narrated Abdullah Bin Umar: I saw Allah Messenger ﷺ delaying the Maghrib prayer till he offered it along with the Isha prayer whenever he was in a hurry during the journey. Salim narrated; Ibn Umar used to do the same whenever he was in a hurry during the journey. And Salim added; Ibn Umar used to pray the Maghrib and Isha prayers together in AlMuzdalifa. Salim said; Ibn Umar delayed the Maghrib prayer because at that time he heard the news of the death of his wife Safiya bint Abi Ubaid. I said to him; The prayer is due. He said; Go on. Again I said; The prayer is due. He said; Go on; till we covered two or three miles. Then he got down; prayed and said; I saw the Prophet ﷺ praying in this way; whenever he was in a hurry during the journey. Abdullah bin Umar added; Whenever the Prophet was in a hurry; he used to delay the Maghrib prayer and then offer three rakat of the Maghrib and perform Taslim; and after waiting for a short while; Iqama used to be pronounced for the Isha prayer when he would offer two rakat and perform Taslim. He would never offer any optional prayer till the middle of the night when he used to pray the Tahajjud. The Chapter on Maghrib Obligatory Prayers And Alquran in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on Three Raka of Maghrib prayer during the journey in Sahih AlBukhari

Salim said; Abdullah Bin Umar used to do the same whenever he was in a hurry during the journey. After making the call for Iqama; for the Maghrib prayer he used to offer three rakat and then perform Taslim. After waiting for a short while; he would pronounce the Iqama for the Isha prayer and offer two rakat and perform Taslim. It was the custom in the Pre-lslamic Period that if somebody adopted a boy; the people would call him the son of the adoptive father and he would be the latter heir. But when Allah revealed the Divine Verses: Call them by the names of their fathers... your freed-slaves; 33.5 the adopted persons were called by their fathers names. The one whose father was not known; would be regarded as a Maula and your brother in religion. Later on Sahla bint Suhail Bin Amr AlQuraishi AlAmiri- and she was the wife of Abu Hudhaifa Bin Utba-came to the Prophet ﷺ and said; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! We used to consider Salim as our adopted son; and now Allah has revealed what you know regarding adopted sons. Abdullah Bin Umar said; He Salim has spoken the truth. Abu Hudhaifah Bin Utbah married Salim to his brother daughter Hind bint AlWalid Bin Utbah Bin Rabiah. Hind bint AlWalid Bin Utbah was one of the first Muhajir women; and at that time she was one of the best single women of the Quraish. When Allah; the Mighty and Sublime; revealed the following concerning Zaid Bin Harithah: Call them by the names of their fathers; that is more just with Allah. SunanAbuDawoud-017-001-24900Aisha wife of the Prophet ﷺ and Umm Salamah said Abu Hudaifah Bin Utbah Bin Rabiah Bin Abd Shams adopted Salim as his son and married him to his niece Hind; daughter of AlWalid Bin Utbah Bin Rabiah. He Salim was the freed slave of a woman from the Ansar the Helpers as the Apostle of Allaah ﷺ adopted Zaid as his son. In pre Islamic days when anyone adopted a man as his son; the people called him by his name and he was given a share from his inheritance. Allaah; the Exalted; revealed about this matter Call them by the name of their fathers; that is juster in the sight of Allaah. And if ye know not their fathers; then they are your brethren in the faith and your clients. They were then called by their names of their fathers. A man; whose father was not known; remained under the protection of someone and considered brother in faith. Sahlah daughter of Suhail Bin Amr AlQuraishi then came and said Apostle of Allaah ﷺ ; we used to consider Salim our son. He dwelled with me and Abu Hudhaifah in the same house; and he saw me in the short clothes; but Allaah the Exalted; has revealed about them what you know; then what is your opinion about him? The Prophet ﷺ said give him your breast feed. She gave him five breast feeds. He then became like her foster son. Hence; Aisha may Allaah be pleased with her used to ask the daughters of her sisters and the daughters of her brethren to give him breast feed five times; whom Aisha wanted to see and who wanted to visit her. Though he might be of age; he then visited her. But Umm Salamah and all other wives of the Prophet ﷺ refused to allow anyone to visit them on the basis of such breast feeding unless one was given breast feed during infancy. They told Aisha by Allaah we do not know whether that was a special concession granted by the Prophet ﷺ to Salim exclusive of the people. The Chapter on Family And Honor in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on About Who Was Made Prohibited Through Adult Fosterage in Sunan Abu Dawoud

MuwataMalik-017-001-34432Yahya related to me from Malik from Yahya Ibn Said that he said to Salim Ibn Abdullah; What is the latest you have seen your father delay maghrib while on a journey? and Salim replied; One time the sun set when we were at Dhat AlJaysh and he prayed maghrib at AlAqiq. The Chapter on Timing Of Obligatory Prayers in HodHood Indexing, The Book of The Times of Prayer in Muwata Malik

Salim said; Umm Kulthum nursed me three times and then fell ill; so that she only nursed me three times. MuwataMalik-017-001-35026Yahya related to me from Malik from Ibn Shihab that he was asked about the suckling of an older person. He said; Urwa Ibn AlZubair informed me that Abu Hudhayfa Ibn Utba Ibn Rabia; one of the companions of the Messenger of Allah; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; who was present at Badr; adopted Salim who is called Salim; the mawla of Abu Hudhayfa as the Messenger of Allah; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; adopted Zayd Ibn Haritha. He thought of him as his son; and Abu Hudhayfa married him to his brother sister; Fatima bint AlWalid Ibn Utba Ibn Rabia; who was at that time among the first emigrants. She was one of the best unmarried women of the Quraysh. When Allah the Exalted sent down in His Book what He sent down about Zayd Ibn Haritha; Call them after their true fathers. That is more equitable in the sight of Allah. If you do not know who their fathers were then they are your brothers in the deen and your mawali; Surat 33 ayat 5 people in this position were traced back to their fathers. When the father was not known; they were traced to their mawla. Sahla bint Suhayl who was the wife of Abu Hudhayfa; and one of the tribe of Amr Ibn Luay; came to the Messenger of Allah; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; and said; Messenger of Allah! We think of Salim as a son and he comes in to see me while I am uncovered. We only have one room; so what do you think about the situation? The Messenger of Allah; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; said; Give him five drinks of your milk and he will be mahram by it. She then saw him as a foster son. Aisha umm Almuminin took that as a precedent for whatever men she wanted to be able to come to see her. She ordered her sister; Umm Kulthum bint Abi Bakr AlSiddiq and the daughters of her brother to give milk to whichever men she wanted to be able to come in to see her. The rest of the wives of the Prophet; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; refused to let anyone come in to them by such nursing. They said; No! By Allah! We think that what the Messenger of Allah; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; ordered Sahla bint Suhayl to do was only an indulgence concerning the nursing of Salim alone. No! By Allah! No one will come in upon us by such nursing! This is what the wives of the Prophet; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; thought about the suckling of an older person. The Chapter on Permission To Enter The House in HodHood Indexing, The Book of Setting Free and Wala in Muwata Malik
MuwataMalik-017-001-35754Yahya related to me from Malik from Yahya Ibn Said and Abdullah Ibn Abi Bakr and Rabia Ibn Abi Abdulrahman that AlWalid Ibn Abd AlMalik asked Salim Ibn Abdullah and Kharija Ibn Zayd Ibn Thabit if he could use perfume after he had stoned the jamra and shaved his head; but before he had left for the tawafal-ifada. Salim forbade him to do so; but Kharija Ibn Zayd Ibn Thabit said that he could. Malik said; There is no harm in a man oiling himself with an oil which does not have any perfume in it; either before he enters ihram; or before he leaves Mina for the tawaf Alifada; if he has stoned the jamra. Yahya said that Malik was asked whether someone in ihram could eat food with saffron in it; and he said; There is no harm in some one in ihram eating it if it has been cooked. If; however; it has not been cooked he should not eat it.The Chapter on Shaving The Head And Aljamarat in HodHood Indexing, The Book of Hajj in Muwata Malik
MuwataMalik-017-001-35839Yahya related to me from Malik from Ibn Shihab from Salim Ibn Abdullah that Abdullah Ibn Muhammad Ibn Abi Bakras-Siddiq told Abdullah Ibn Umar from Aisha; that the Prophet; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; said; Dont you see that when your people built the Kaba they fell short of the foundations of Ibrahim? Aisha said; Messenger of Allah; wont you return it to the foundations of Ibrahim? and the Messenger of Allah; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; said; If it were not that your people have only recently left kufr; I would have done so. Salim Ibn Abdullah said that Abdullah Ibn Umar said; If Aisha heard this from the Messenger of Allah; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; then I consider that the Messenger of Allah; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; only refrained from greeting the two corners which are adjacent to the Hijr because the House had not been completed on the foundations of Ibrahim. i.e. the corners he did not touch were not the original corners of the Kaba. The Chapter on Peace And Mercy in HodHood Indexing, The Book of Hajj in Muwata Malik
MuwataMalik-017-001-35937Yahya related to me from Malik from Ibn Shihab that Salim Ibn Abdullah said; Abd AlMalik Ibn Marwan wrote to AlAlHajjaj Ibn Yousif telling him not to disagree with Abdullah Ibn Umar about anything to do with the hajj. Then; when the day of Arafa came Abdullah Ibn Umar went to him just after noon; and I went with him. He called out to him outside his tent; Where is this man? and a-lAlHajjaj came out to him; wearing a blanket dyed with safflower; and said to him; What up with you; Abu Abdulrahman He said; Hurry up; if you want to follow the sunna. AlAlHajjaj said; At this hour? and he said; Yes. AlAlHajjaj said; Wait until I have poured some water over myself; and then I will come out. So Abdullah dismounted and waited until AlAlHajjaj came out. He passed between me and my father and I said to him; If you want to accord with the sunna today; then make the khutba short; do not delay the prayer and do the prayer quickly. Then he began looking at Abdullah Ibn Umar to see if he would say the same thing; and when Abdullah saw that; he said; What Salim is saying is true. 20.64 Doing the Prayer at Mina on the Eighth Day of Dhu AlHijja; and the Jumua at Mina and ArafaThe Chapter on Throwing And Arafat And Mina in HodHood Indexing, The Book of Business Transactions in Muwata Malik
