Some of them said to the others; Ask him the Prophet about the spirit. Others said; Do not ask him. But they asked him and he stood leaning on the stick and I was standing behind him and I thought that he was being divinely inspired. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-1094Narrated Ibn Masud: While I was walking in company with the Prophet ﷺ in one of the fields of Medina; the Prophet ﷺ was reclining on a palm leave stalk which he carried with him. We passed by a group of Jews. Some of them said to the others; Ask him about the spirit. The others said; Do not ask him; lest he would say something that you hate. Some of them said; We will ask him. So a man from among them stood up and said; O Abal-Qasim! What is the spirit? The Prophet ﷺ kept quiet and I knew that he was being divinely inspired. Then he said: They ask you concerning the Spirit; Say: The Spirit; its knowledge is with my Lord. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-1269Narrated Abu Qatada: Allah Messenger ﷺ said on the Day of the battle of Hunain; Whoever has killed an infidel and has a proof or a witness for it; then the salb arms and belongings of that deceased will be for him. I stood up to seek a witness to testify that I had killed an infidel but I could not find any witness and then sat down. Then I thought that I should mention the case to Allah Messenger ﷺ I and when I did so a man from those who were sitting with him said; The arms of the killed person he has mentioned; are with me; so please satisfy him on my behalf. Abu Bakr said; No; he will not give the arms to a bird of Quraish and deprive one of Allah lions of it who fights for the cause of Allah and His Apostle. Allah Messenger ﷺ I stood up and gave it to me; and I bought a garden with its price; and that was my first property which I owned through the war booty. The people of Hijaz said; A judge should not pass a judgment according to his knowledge; whether he was a witness at the time he was the judge or before that And if a litigant gives a confession in favor of his opponent in the court; in the opinion of some scholars; the judge should not pass a judgment against him till the latter calls two witnesses to witness his confession. And some people of Iraq said; A judge can pass a judgement according to what he hears or witnesses the litigant confession in the court itself; but if the confession takes place outside the court; he should not pass the judgment unless two witnesses witness the confession. Some of them said; A judge can pass a judgement depending on his knowledge of the case as he is trust-worthy; and that a witness is Required just to reveal the truth. The judge knowledge is more than the witness. Some said; A judge can judge according to his knowledge only in cases involving property; but in other cases he cannot. AlQasim said; A judge ought not to pass a judgment depending on his knowledge if other people do not know what he knows; although his knowledge is more than the witness of somebody else because he might expose himself to suspicion by the Muslims and cause the Muslims to have unreasonable doubt. The Chapter on Worship And Judgment Day in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on If a judge has to witness in favour of a litigant in Sahih AlBukhari

Some others said; Do not ask him; lest he should tell you what you dislike But they went up to him and said; O Abal Qasim! Inform us bout the spirit. The Prophet ﷺ stood up for a while; waiting. I realized that he was being Divinely Inspired; so I kept away from him till the inspiration was over. Then the Prophet ﷺ said; O Muhammad they ask you regarding the spirit; Say: The spirit its knowledge is with my Lord i.e.; nobody has its knowledge except Allah 17.85 This is a miracle of the Quran that all the scientists up till now do not know about the spirit; i.e; how life comes to a body and how it goes away at its death See Hadith No. 245; Vol. 6The Chapter on Allah And Prophets Divine Knowledge in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on Asking too many questions and troubling with what does not concern one in Sahih AlBukhari

SahihAlBukhari-017-001-3379Narrated Ubaidullah Bin Adi Bin AlKhiyar: AlMiswar Bin Makhrama and Abdulrahman Bin AlAswad Bin Abu Yaghuth said to me ; What forbids you to talk to Uthman about his brother AlWalid because people have talked much about him? So I went to Uthman and when he went out for prayer I said to him ; I have something to say to you and it is a piece of advice for you Uthman said; O man; from you. Umar said: I see that he said; I seek Refuge with Allah from you. So I left him and went to them. Then the messenger of Uthman came and I went to him i.e. Uthman ; Uthman asked; What is your advice? I replied; Allah sent Muhammad with the Truth; and revealed the Divine Book i.e. Quran to him; and you were amongst those who followed Allah and His Apostle; and you participated in the two migrations to Ethiopia and to Medina and enjoyed the company of Allah Messenger ﷺ and saw his way. No doubt; the people are talking much about AlWalid. Uthman said; Did you receive your knowledge directly from Allah Messenger ﷺ ? I said; No; but his knowledge did reach me and it reached even to a virgin in her seclusion. Uthman said; And then Allah sent Muhammad with the Truth and I was amongst those who followed Allah and His Apostle and I believed in what ever he i.e. the Prophet was sent with; and participated in two migrations; as you have said; and I enjoyed the company of Allah Messenger ﷺ and gave the pledge of allegiance him. By Allah! I never disobeyed him; nor did I cheat him till Allah took him unto Him. Then I treated Abu Bakr and then Umar similarly and then I was made Caliph. So; dont I have rights similar to theirs? I said; Yes. He said; Then what are these talks reaching me from you people? Now; concerning what you mentioned about the question of AlWalid; Allah willing; I shall deal with him according to what is right. Then he called Ali and ordered him to flog him; and Ali flogged him i.e. AlWalid eighty lashes. The Chapter on Communication Talking In Prayers in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on The virtues of Uthman Bin Affan in Sahih AlBukhari
SahihAlBukhari-017-001-4196Narrated Saeed Bin Jubair: I said to Ibn Abbas; Nauf AlBukah claims that Moses; the companion of AlKhadir was not Moses the prophet of the children of Israel; but some other Moses. Ibn Abbas said; Allah enemy i.e. Nauf has told a lie. Ubai Bin Kaab told us that the Prophet ﷺ said; Once Moses stood up and addressed Bani Israel. He was asked who was the most learned man amongst the people. He said; I. Allah admonished him as he did not attribute absolute knowledge to Him Allah. So; Allah said to him; Yes; at the junction of the two seas there is a Slave of Mine who is more learned than you. Moses said; O my Lord! How can I meet him? Allah said; Take a fish and put it in a large basket and you will find him at the place where you will lose the fish. Moses took a fish and put it in a basket and proceeded along with his servant boy; Yusha Bin Noon; till they reached the rock where they laid their heads i.e. lay down. Moses slept; and the fish; moving out of the basket; fell into the sea. It took its way into the sea straight as in a tunnel. Allah stopped the flow of water over the fish and it became like an arch the Prophet ﷺ pointed out this arch with his hands. They travelled the rest of the night; and the next day Moses said to his boy servant ; Give us our food; for indeed; we have suffered much fatigue in this journey of ours. Moses did not feel tired till he crossed that place which Allah had ordered him to seek after. His boy servant said to him; Do you know that when we were sitting near that rock; I forgot the fish; and none but Satan caused me to forget to tell you about it; and it took its course into the sea in an amazing way?. So there was a path for the fish and that astonished them. Moses said; That was what we were seeking after. So; both of them retraced their footsteps till they reached the rock. There they saw a man Lying covered with a garment. Moses greeted him and he replied saying; How do people greet each other in your land? Moses said; I am Moses. The man asked; Moses of Bani Israel? Moses said; Yes; I have come to you so that you may teach me from those things which Allah has taught you. He said; O Moses! I have some of the Knowledge of Allah which Allah has taught me; and which you do not know; while you have some of the Knowledge of Allah which Allah has taught you and which I do not know. Moses asked; May I follow you? He said; But you will not be able to remain patient with me for how can you be patient about things which you will not be able to understand? Moses said; You will find me; if Allah so will; truly patient; and I will not disobey you in aught. So; both of them set out walking along the sea-shore; a boat passed by them and they asked the crew of the boat to take them on board. The crew recognized AlKhadir and so they took them on board without fare. When they were on board the boat; a sparrow came and stood on the edge of the boat and dipped its beak once or twice into the sea. AlKhadir said to Moses; O Moses! My knowledge and your knowledge have not decreased Allah Knowledge except as much as this sparrow has decreased the water of the sea with its beak. Then suddenly AlKhadir took an adze and plucked a plank; and Moses did not notice it till he had plucked a plank with the adze. Moses said to him; What have you done? They took us on board charging us nothing; yet you I have intentionally made a hole in their boat so as to drown its passengers. Verily; you have done a dreadful thing. AlKhadir replied; Did I not tell you that you would not be able to remain patient with me? Moses replied; Do not blame me for what I have forgotten; and do not be hard upon me for my fault. So the first excuse of Moses was that he had forgotten. When they had left the sea; they passed by a boy playing with other boys. AlKhadir took hold of the boys head and plucked it with his hand like this. Sufyan; the sub narrator pointed with his fingertips as if he was plucking some fruit. Moses said to him; Have you killed an innocent person who has not killed any person? You have really done a horrible thing. AlKhadir said; Did I not tell you that you could not remain patient with me? Moses said If I ask you about anything after this; dont accompany me. You have received an excuse from me. Then both of them went on till they came to some people of a village; and they asked its inhabitant for wood but they refused to entertain them as guests. Then they saw therein a wall which was just going to collapse and AlKhadir repaired it just by touching it with his hands. Sufyan; the sub-narrator; pointed with his hands; illustrating how AlKhadir passed his hands over the wall upwards. Moses said; These are the people whom we have called on; but they neither gave us food; nor entertained us as guests; yet you have repaired their wall. If you had wished; you could have taken wages for it. AlKhadir said; This is the parting between you and me; and I shall tell you the explanation of those things on which you could not remain patient. The Prophet ﷺ added; We wished that Moses could have remained patient by virtue of which Allah might have told us more about their story. Sufyan the sub-narrator said that the Prophet ﷺ said; May Allah bestow His Mercy on Moses! If he had remained patient; we would have been told further about their case. The Chapter on Moses And Prophets Moses And Alkhadir in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on The story of AlKhidr with Musa Moses alayhissalam in Sahih AlBukhari
SahihAlBukhari-017-001-4710Narrated Abu Juhaifa: I asked Ali; Do you have the knowledge of any Divine Inspiration besides what is in Allah Book? Ali replied; No; by Him Who splits the grain of corn and creates the soul. I dont think we have such knowledge; but we have the ability of understanding which Allah may endow a person with; so that he may understand the Quran; and we have what is written in this paper as well. I asked; What is written in this paper? He replied; The regulations of blood-money; the freeing of captives; and the judgment that no Muslim should be killed for killing an infidel. The Chapter on Idolaters And Infidels And Polytheist in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on The freeing of a captive in Sahih AlBukhari
SahihAlBukhari-017-001-6106Narrated Abu Huraira: One day while the Prophet ﷺ was sitting in the company of some people; The angel Gabriel came and asked; What is faith? Allah Messenger ﷺ replied; Faith is to believe in Allah; His angels; the meeting with Him; His Apostles; and to believe in Resurrection. Then he further asked; What is Islam? Allah Messenger ﷺ replied; To worship Allah Alone and none else; to offer prayers perfectly to pay the compulsory charity Zakat and to observe fasts during the month of Ramadan. Then he further asked; What is Ihsan perfection ? Allah Messenger ﷺ replied; To worship Allah as if you see Him; and if you cannot achieve this state of devotion then you must consider that He is looking at you. Then he further asked; When will the Hour be established? Allah Messenger ﷺ replied; The answerer has no better knowledge than the questioner. But I will inform you about its portents. 1. When a slave lady gives birth to her master. 2. When the shepherds of black camels start boasting and competing with others in the construction of higher buildings. And the Hour is one of five things which nobody knows except Allah. The Prophet ﷺ then recited: Verily; with Allah Alone is the knowledge of the Hour-. 31. 34 Then that man Gabriel left and the Prophet ﷺ asked his companions to call him back; but they could not see him. Then the Prophet ﷺ said; That was Gabriel who came to teach the people their religion. Abu Abdullah said: He the Prophet considered all that as a part of faith. The Chapter on Hour And Day Of Truth in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on The asking of angel Jibrll Gabriel from the Prophet about Iman Islam Ihsan and the knowledge of the Hour in Sahih AlBukhari
SahihAlBukhari-017-001-6135Narrated Abu Mousa: The Prophet ﷺ said; The example of guidance and knowledge with which Allah has sent me is like abundant rain falling on the earth; some of which was fertile soil that absorbed rain water and brought forth vegetation and grass in abundance. And another portion of it was hard and held the rain water and Allah benefited the people with it and they utilized it for drinking; making their animals drink from it and for irrigation of the land for cultivation. And a portion of it was barren which could neither hold the water nor bring forth vegetation then that land gave no benefits. The first is the example of the person who comprehends Allah religion and gets benefit from the knowledge which Allah has revealed through me the Prophets and learns and then teaches others. The last example is that of a person who does not care for it and does not take Allah guidance revealed through me He is like that barren land. The Chapter on Farming And Irrigation And Earth in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on The superiority of a person who learns Islam becomes a religious scholar and then teaches it to others in Sahih AlBukhari
SahihAlBukhari-017-001-6156Narrated Abdullah Bin Amr Bin AlAs: I heard Allah Messenger ﷺ saying; Allah does not take away the knowledge; by taking it away from the hearts of the people; but takes it away by the death of the religious learned men till when none of the religious learned men remains; people will take as their leaders ignorant persons who when consulted will give their verdict without knowledge. So they will go astray and will lead the people astray. The Chapter on Knowledge In Religion in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on How the religious knowledge will be taken away in Sahih AlBukhari
SahihAlBukhari-017-001-6181Narrated Abdullah: While I was going with the Prophet ﷺ through the ruins of Medina and he was reclining on a date-palm leaf stalk; some Jews passed by. Some of them said to the others: Ask him the Prophet about the spirit. Some of them said that they should not ask him that question as he might give a reply which would displease them. But some of them insisted on asking; and so one of them stood up and asked; O Ab AlQasim ! What is the spirit? The Prophet ﷺ remained quiet. I thought he was being inspired Divinely. So I stayed till that state of the Prophet while being inspired was over. The Prophet ﷺ then said; And they ask you O Muhammad concerning the spirit -Say: The spirit - its knowledge is with my Lord. And of knowledge you mankind have been given only a little. 17.85The Chapter on Allah And Prophets Divine Knowledge in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on The Statement of Allah Taala And of knowledge you mankind have been given only a little in Sahih AlBukhari
SahihAlBukhari-017-001-7035Narrated Abdullah: While I was in the company of the Prophet ﷺ on a farm and he was reclining on a palm leave stalk; some Jews passed by. Some of them said to the others. Ask him the Prophet ﷺ about the spirit. Some of them said; What urges you to ask him about it Others said; Dont lest he should give you a reply which you dislike. But they said; Ask him. So they asked him about the Spirit. The Prophet ﷺ kept quiet and did not give them any answer. I knew that he was being divinely inspired so I stayed at my place. When the divine inspiration had been revealed; the Prophet ﷺ said. They ask you O; Muhammad concerning the Spirit; Say: The spirit; its knowledge is with my Lord; and of knowledge you mankind have been given only a Little. 17.85The Chapter on Allah And Prophets Divine Knowledge in HodHood Indexing, The Book of Prophetic Commentary on the Quran Tafseer of the Prophet in Sahih AlBukhari
SahihAlBukhari-017-001-7039Narrated Saeed Bin Jubair: I said to Ibn Abbas; Nauf AlBikali claims that Moses; the companion of AlKhadir was not the Moses of the children of Israel Ibn Abbas said; The enemy of Allah Nauf told a lie. Narrated Ubai Bin Kaab that he heard Allah Messenger ﷺ saying; Moses got up to deliver a speech before the children of Israel and he was asked; Who is the most learned person among the people? Moses replied; I am the most learned. Allah admonished him for he did not ascribe knowledge to Allah alone. So Allah revealed to him: At the junction of the two seas there is a slave of Ours who is more learned than you. Moses asked; O my Lord; how can I meet him? Allah said; Take a fish and put it in a basket and set out ; and where you; will lose the fish; you will find him. So Moses took a fish and put it in a basket and set out; along with his boy-servant Yusha Bin Noon; till they reached a rock on which they both lay their heads and slept. The fish moved vigorously in the basket and got out of it and fell into the sea and there it took its way through the sea straight as in a tunnel. 18.61 Allah stopped the current of water on both sides of the way created by the fish; and so that way was like a tunnel. When Moses got up; his companion forgot to tell him about the fish; and so they carried on their journey during the rest of the day and the whole night. The next morning Moses asked his boy-servant Bring us our early meal; no doubt; we have suffered much fatigue in this journey of ours. 18.62 Moses did not get tired till he had passed the place which Allah had ordered him to seek after. His boy-servant then said to him; Do you remember when we be-took ourselves to the rock I indeed forgot the fish; none but Satan made me forget to remember it. It took its course into the sea in a marvelous way. 18.63 There was a tunnel for the fish and for Moses and his boy-servant there was astonishment. Moses said; That is what we have been seeking. So they went back retracing their footsteps. 18.64 They both returned; retracing their steps till they reached the rock. Behold ! There they found a man covered with a garment. Moses greeted him. AlKhadir said astonishingly. Is there such a greeting in your land? Moses said; I am Moses. He said; Are you the Moses of the children of Israel? Moses said; I have come to you so that you may teach me of what you have been taught. AlKhadir said; You will not be able to have patience with me. 18.66 O Moses! I have some of Allah knowledge which He has bestowed upon me but you do not know it; and you too; have some of Allah knowledge which He has bestowed upon you; but I do not know it. Moses said; Allah willing; you will find me patient; and I will not disobey you in anything. 18.6 AlKhadir said to him. If you then follow me; do not ask me about anything until I myself speak to you concerning it. 18.70 ; After that both of them proceeded along the sea coast; till a boat passed by and they requested the crew to let them go on board. The crew recognized AlKhadir and allowed them to get on board free of charge. When they got on board suddenly Moses saw that AlKhadir had pulled out one of the planks of the boat with an adze. Moses said to him. These people gave us a free lift; yet you have scuttled their boat so as to drown its people! Truly; you have done a dreadful thing. 18.71 AlKhadir said; Didnt I say that you can have no patience with me ? 18.72 Moses said; Call me not to account for what I forgot and be not hard upon me for my affair with you. 18.73 Allah Messenger ﷺ said; The first excuse given by Moses; was that he had forgotten. Then a sparrow came and sat over the edge of the boat and dipped its beak once in the sea. AlKhadir said to Moses; My knowledge and your knowledge; compared to Allah knowledge is like what this sparrow has taken out of the sea. Then they both got out of the boat; and while they were walking on the sea shore; AlKhadir saw a boy playing with other boys. AlKhadir got hold of the head of that boy and pulled it out with his hands and killed him. Moses said; Have you killed an innocent soul who has killed nobody! Truly; you have done an illegal thing. 18.74 He said; Didnt I tell you that you can have no patience with me? 18.75 The sub narrator said; the second blame was stronger than the first one. Moses said; If I ask you about anything after this; keep me not in your company; you have received an excuse from me. 18.76 Then they both proceeded until they came to the inhabitants of a town. They asked them food but they refused to entertain them. In that town they found there a wall on the point of falling down. 18.77 AlKhadir set it up straight with his own hands. Moses said; These are people to whom we came; but they neither fed us nor received us as guests. If you had wished; you could surely have exacted some recompense for it. AlKhadir said; This is the parting between me and you..that is the interpretation of those things over which you were unable to hold patience. 18.78-82 Allah Messenger ﷺ said; We wished that Moses could have been more patient so that Allah might have described to us more about their story. The Chapter on Moses And Prophets Moses And Alkhadir in HodHood Indexing, The Book of Prophetic Commentary on the Quran Tafseer of the Prophet in Sahih AlBukhari
SahihAlBukhari-017-001-7040Narrated Ibn Juraij: Yala Bin Muslim and Amr Bin Dinar and some others narrated the narration of Saeed Bin Jubair. Narrated Said: While we were at the house of Ibn Abbas; Ibn Abbas said; Ask me any question I said; O Abu Abbas! May Allah let me be sacrificed for you ! There is a man at Kufa who is a storyteller called Nauf; who claims that he AlKhadir companion is not Moses of Bani Israel. As for Amr; he said to me; Ibn Abbas said; Nauf the enemy of Allah told a lie. But Yala said to me; Ibn Abbas said; Ubai Bin Kaab said; Allah Messenger ﷺ said; Once Moses; Allah Messenger ﷺ ; preached to the people till their eyes shed tears and their hearts became tender; whereupon he finished his sermon. Then a man came to Moses and asked; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! Is there anyone on the earth who is more learned than you? Moses replied; No. So Allah admonished him Moses ; for he did not ascribe all knowledge to Allah. It was said; on behalf of Allah ; Yes; there is a slave of ours who knows more than you. Moses said; O my Lord! Where is he? Allah said; At the junction of the two seas. Moses said; O my Lord ! Tell I me of a sign whereby I will recognize the place. Amr said to me; Allah said; That place will be where the fish will leave you. Yala said to me; Allah said to Moses ; Take a dead fish and your goal will be the place where it will become alive. So Moses took a fish and put it in a basket and said to his boy-servant I dont want to trouble you; except that you should inform me as soon as this fish leaves you. He said to Moses. You have not demanded too much. And that is as mentioned by Allah: And remember when Moses said to his attendant.... 18.60 Yusha Bin Noon. Saeed did not state that. The Prophet ﷺ said; While the attendant was in the shade of the rock at a wet place; the fish slipped out alive while Moses was sleeping. His attend an said to himself ; I will not wake him; but when he woke up; he forgot to tell him The fish slipped out and entered the sea. Allah stopped the flow of the sea. where the fish was; so that its trace looked as if it was made on a rock. Amr forming a hole with his two thumbs an index fingers; said to me; Like this; as in its trace was made on a rock. Moses said We have suffered much fatigue on this journey of ours. This was not narrated by Said. Then they returned back and found AlKhadir. Uthman Bin Abi Sulaiman said to me; they found him on a green carpet in the middle of the sea. AlKhadir was covered with his garment with one end under his feet and the other end under his head. When Moses greeted; he uncovered his face and said astonishingly; Is there such a greeting in my land? Who are you? Moses said; I am Moses. AlKhadir said; Are you the Moses of Bani Israel? Moses said; Yes. AlKhadir said; What do you want? Moses said; I came to you so that you may teach me of the truth which you were taught. AlKhadir said; Is it not sufficient for you that the Torah is in your hands and the Divine Inspiration comes to you; O Moses? Verily; I have a knowledge that you ought not learn; and you have a knowledge which I ought not learn. At that time a bird took with its beak some water from the sea: AlKhadir then said; By Allah; my knowledge and your knowledge besides Allah Knowledge is like what this bird has taken with its beak from the sea. Until; when they went on board the boat 18.71. They found a small boat which used to carry the people from this sea-side to the other sea-side. The crew recognized AlKhadir and said; The pious slave of Allah. We said to Saeed Was that Khadir? He said; Yes. The boat men said; We will not get him on board with fare. AlKhadir scuttled the boat and then plugged the hole with a piece of wood. Moses said; Have you scuttled it in order to drown these people surely; you have done a dreadful thing. 18.71 Mujahid said. Moses said so protestingly. AlKhadir said; didnt I say that you can have no patience with me? 18.72 The first inquiry of Moses was done because of forgetfulness; the second caused him to be bound with a stipulation; and the third was done intentionally. Moses said; Call me not to account for what I forgot and be not hard upon me for my affair with you. 18.73 Then they found a boy and AlKhadir killed him. Yala- said: Saeed said They found boys playing and AlKhadir got hold of a handsome infidel boy laid him down and then slew him with knife. Moses said; Have you killed a innocent soul who has killed nobody 18.74 Then they proceeded and found a wall which was on the point of falling down; and AlKhadir set it up straight. Saeed moved his hand thus and said AlKhadir raised his hand and the wall became straight. Yala said; I think Saeed said; AlKhadir touched the wall with his hand and it became straight Moses said to AlKhadir ; If you had wished; you could have taken wages for it. Saeed said; Wages that we might had eaten. And there was a king in furor ahead of them 18.79 And there was in front of them. Ibn Abbas recited: In front of them was a king. It is said on the authority of somebody other than Saeed that the king was Hudad Bin Budad. They say that the boy was called Haisur. A king who seized every ship by force. 18.79 So I wished that if that boat passed by him; he would leave it because of its defect and when they have passed they would repair it and get benefit from it. Some people said that they closed that hole with a bottle; and some said with tar. His parents were believers; and he the boy was a non-believer and we Khadir feared lest he would oppress them by obstinate rebellion and disbelief. 18.80 i.e. that their love for him would urge them to follow him in his religion; so we Khadir desired that their Lord should change him for them for one better in righteousness and near to mercy 18:81. This was in reply to Moses saying: Have you killed an innocent soul.? 18.74. Near to mercy means they will be more merciful to him than they were to the former whom Khadir had killed. Other than Said; said that they were compensated with a girl. Dawud Bin Abi Aasi m said on the authority of more than one that this next child was a girl. The Chapter on Moses And Prophets Moses And Alkhadir in HodHood Indexing, The Book of Prophetic Commentary on the Quran Tafseer of the Prophet in Sahih AlBukhari
SahihAlBukhari-017-001-7041Narrated Saeed Bin Jubair: I said to Ibn Abbas; Nauf AlBakali claims that Moses of Bani Israel was not Moses; the companion of AlKhadir. Ibn Abbas said; Allah enemy tells a lie! Ubai Bin Kaab narrated to us that Allah Messenger ﷺ said; Moses got up to deliver a sermon before Bani Israel and he was asked; Who is the most learned person among the people? Moses replied; I am the most learned. Allah then admonished Moses for he did not ascribe all knowledge to Allah only Then came the Divine Inspiration:- Yes; one of Our slaves at the junction of the two seas is more learned than you. Moses said; O my Lord ! How can meet him? Allah said; Take a fish in a basket and wherever the fish is lost; follow it you will find him at that place. So Moses set out along with his attendant Yusha Bin Noon; and they carried with them a fish till they reached a rock and rested there. Moses put his head down and slept. Sufyan; a sub-narrator said that somebody other than Amr said At the rock there was a water spring called AlHayat and none came in touch with its water but became alive. So some of the water of that spring fell over that fish; so it moved and slipped out of the basket and entered the sea. When Moses woke up; he asked his attendant; Bring our early meal 18.62. The narrator added: Moses did not suffer from fatigue except after he had passed the place he had been ordered to observe. His attendant Yusha Bin Noon said to him; Do you remember what happened when we betook ourselves to the rock? I did indeed forget about the fish... 18.63 The narrator added: So they came back; retracing their steps and then they found in the sea; the way of the fish looking like a tunnel. So there was an astonishing event for his attendant; and there was tunnel for the fish. When they reached the rock; they found a man covered with a garment. Moses greeted him. The man said astonishingly; Is there any such greeting in your land? Moses said; I am Moses. The man said; Moses of Bani Israel? Moses said; Yes; and added; may I follow you so that you teach me something of the Knowledge which you have been taught? 18.66. AlKhadir said to him; O Moses! You have something of Allah knowledge which Allah has taught you and which I do not know; and I have something of Allah knowledge which Allah has taught me and which you do not know. Moses said; But I will follow you. AlKhadir said; Then if you follow me; ask me no question about anything until I myself speak to you concerning it. 18.70. After that both of them proceeded along the seashore. There passed by them a boat whose crew recognized AlKhadir and received them on board free of charge. So they both got on board. A sparrow came and sat on the edge of the boat and dipped its beak unto the sea. AlKhadir said to Moses. My knowledge and your knowledge and all the creation knowledge compared to Allah knowledge is not more than the water taken by this sparrow beak. Then Moses was startled by AlKhadir action of taking an adze and scuttling the boat with it. Moses said to him; These people gave us a free lift; but you intentionally scuttled their boat so as to drown them. Surely you have... 18.71 Then they both proceeded and found a boy playing with other boys. AlKhadir took hold of him by the head and cut it off. Moses said to him; Have you killed an innocent soul who has killed nobody? Surely you have done an illegal thing! 18.74 He said; Didnt I tell you that you will not be able to have patient with me up to..but they refused to entertain them as their guests. There they found a wall therein at the point of collapsing. 18.75-77 AlKhadir moved his hand thus and set it upright repaired it. Moses said to him; When we entered this town; they neither gave us hospitality nor fed us; if you had wished; you could have taken wages for it; AlKhadir said; This is the parting between you and me I will tell you the interpretation of those things about which you were unable to hold patience.... 18.78 Allah Messenger ﷺ said; We wished that Moses could have been more patient so that He Allah could have described to us more about their story. Ibn Abbas used to recite:- And in front ahead of them there was a king who used to seize every serviceable boat by force. 18.79...and as for the boy he was a disbeliever. The Chapter on Moses And Prophets Moses And Alkhadir in HodHood Indexing, The Book of Prophetic Commentary on the Quran Tafseer of the Prophet in Sahih AlBukhari
SahihAlBukhari-017-001-7282Narrated Ibn Abbas: Umar used to make me sit with the elderly men who had fought in the Battle of Badr. Some of them felt it did not like that and said to Umar Why do you bring in this boy to sit with us while we have sons like him? Umar replied; Because of what you know of his position i.e. his religious knowledge. One day Umar called me and made me sit in the gathering of those people; and I think that he called me just to show them. my religious knowledge. Umar then asked them in my presence. What do you say about the interpretation of the Statement of Allah: When comes Help of Allah to you O; Muhammad against your enemies and the conquest of Mecca. 110.1 Some of them said; We are ordered to praise Allah and ask for His forgiveness when Allah Help and the conquest of Mecca comes to us. Some others kept quiet and did not say anything. On that; Umar asked me; Do you say the same; O Ibn Abbas? I replied; No. He said; What do you say then? I replied; That is the sign of the death of Allah Messenger ﷺ which Allah informed him of. Allah said:- O Muhammad When comes the Help of Allah to you against your enemies and the conquest of Mecca which is the sign of your death. You should celebrate the praises of your Lord and ask for His Forgiveness; and He is the One Who accepts the repentance and forgives. 110.3 On that Umar said; I do not know anything about it other than what you have said. The Chapter on Makkah And Arafat in HodHood Indexing, The Book of Prophetic Commentary on the Quran Tafseer of the Prophet in Sahih AlBukhari

SahihMuslim-017-001-17903It has been narrated on the authority of Sulaiman Bin Yasar who said: People dispersed from around Abu Huraira; and Natil; who was from the Syrians. said to him: O Shaikh; relate to us a tradition you have heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He said: Yes. I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: The first of men whose case will be decided on the Day of Judgment will be a man who died as a martyr. He shall be brought before the Judgment Seat. Allah will make him recount His blessings i. e. the blessings which He had bestowed upon him and he will recount them and admit having enjoyed them in his life. Then will Allah say: What did you do to requite these blessings ? He will say: I fought for Thee until I died as a martyr. Allah will say: You have told a lie. You fought that you might be called a brave warrior. And you were called so. Then orders will be passed against him and he will be dragged with his face downward and cast into Hell. Then will be brought forward a man who acquired knowledge and imparted it to others and recited the Quran. He will be brought And Allah will make him recount His blessings and he will recount them and admit having enjoyed them in his lifetime. Then will Allah ask: What did you do to requite these blessings ? He will say: I acquired knowledge and disseminated it and recited the Quran seeking Thy pleasure. Allah will say: You have told a lie. You acquired knowledge so that you might be called a scholar; and you recited the Quran so that it might be said: He is a Qari and such has been said. Then orders will be passed against him and he shall be dragged with his face downward and cast into the Fire. Then will be brought a man whom Allah had made abundantly rich and had granted every kind of wealth. He will be brought and Allah will make him recount His blessings and he will recount them and admit having enjoyed them in his lifetime. Allah will then ask: What have you done to requite these blessings ? He will say: I spent money in every cause in which Thou wished that it should be spent. Allah will say: You are lying. You did so that it might be said about You : He is a generous fellow and so it was said. Then will Allah pass orders and he will be dragged with his face downward and thrown into Hell. The Chapter on Life And Death And Islam in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on 43 in Sahih Muslim
SahihMuslim-017-001-19044Masruq reported: We were sitting in the company of Abdullah and he was lying on the bed that a person came and said: Abd Abd AlRabmin; a story-teller at the gates of Kinda says that the verse of the Quran which deals with the smoke implies that which is about to come and it would hold the breath of the infidels and would inflict the believers with cold. Thereupon Abdullah got up and said in anger. O people; fear Allah and say only that which one knows amongst you and do not say which he does not know and he should simply say: Allah has the best knowledge for He has the best knowledge amongst all of you. It does not behove him to say that which he does not know. Allah has the best knowledge of it. Verily Allah; the Exalted and Glorious; said to His Prophet ﷺ to state: I do not ask from you any remuneration and I am not the one to put you in trouble; and when Allah Mesqenger ﷺ saw people turning back from religion he said: O Allah; afflict thern with seven famines as was done in the case of Yousif; so they were afflicted with famine by which they were forced to eat everything until they were obliged to eat the hides and the dead bodies because of hunger; and every one of them looked towards the sky and he found a smoke. And Abu Sufyan came and he said: Muhammad; you have come to command us to obey Allah and cement the ties of blood- relation whereas your people are undone; supplicate Allah for tlicm. Thereupon Allah; the Exalted and Glorious; said: Wait for the day when there would be clear smoke from the sky which would envelop people and that would be grievous torivent up to the words: you are going to return to evil. if this verse implied the torment of the next life could the chastisement of the next life be averted as the Quran states : On the day when We seize them with the most violent seizing; surely We shall exact retribution xliv. 16 ? The seizing in the hadith implies that of the Day of Badr. And so far as the sign of smoke; seizing; inevitability and signs of Rome are concern- ed; they have become things of the past now.The Chapter on Rain And Clouds And Smoke Associated With Punishments in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on 7 in Sahih Muslim
SahihMuslim-017-001-19045Masruq reported that there came to Abdullah a person and said: I have left behind in the Masjid a man who explains the Quran according to his personal discretion and he explained this verse: So wait for the day when the Heaven brings a clear smoke. He says that a smoke would come to the people on the Day of Resurrection anl it will withhold breath and they would be inflicted with cold. Abdullah said: He who has knowledge should say something and he who has no knowledge should simply say: Allah is best aware. This reflects the understanding of a person that he should say about that which he does not know that it is Allah who knows best. The fact is that when the Quraish disobeyed Allah Apostle ﷺ he supplicated Allah that they should be afflicted with famine and starvation as was done in case of Yousif. And they were so much hard pressed that a person would ace the sky and he would see between him and the sky something like smoke and they were so much hard pressed that they began to cat the bones; and a person came to Allah Apostle ﷺ and said: Allah Messenger. seek forgiveness for the tribe of Mudar for its people have been undone. The Messenger ﷺ said: For Mudar? You are overbold; but he supplicated Allah for them. It was upon this that this verse was revealed: We shall remove the chastisement a little; but they will surely return to evil xliv. 15. lie the narrator said: There was a downpoor of rain upon them. When there was some relief for them they returned to the same position as they had been before; and Allah; the Exalted and Glorious; revealed this verse: So wait for the day when the heaven brings a clear smoke enveloping people. This is a grievous torment on the day when We seize them with the most violent seizing; surely; We shall exact retribution. And this seizing implied Battle of Badr. The Chapter on Rain And Clouds And Smoke Associated With Punishments in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on 7 in Sahih Muslim
SahihMuslim-017-001-19409Abdullah Bin Amr Bin AlAs reported Allah Messenger ﷺ as saying: Verily; Allah does not take away knowledge by snatching it from the people but He takes away knowledge by taking away the scholars; so that when He leaves no learned person; people turn to the ignorant as their leaders; then they are asked to deliver religious verdicts and they deliver them without knowledge; they go astray; and lead others astray. The Chapter on Knowledge In Religion in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on 5 in Sahih Muslim
SahihMuslim-017-001-19412Urwa Bin AlZubair reported that Aisha said to him: This news has reached me that Abdullah Bin Amr AlAs would pass by us during the Hajj season; so you meet him and ask him about religious matters as he has acquired great knowledge from Allah Messenger ﷺ. I thus met him and asked him about things which he narrated from Allah Messenger ﷺ. And amongst these the one he mentioned was that Allah Apostle ﷺ said: Verily; Allah does not take away knowledge from people directly but he takes away the scholars and consequently takes away knowledge along with them and leaves amongst persons the ignorant as their leaders who deliver religious verdicts without adequate knowledge and themselves go astray and lead others astray. Urwa said: When I narrated this to Aisha; she deemed it too much to believe and thus showed reluctance to accept that as perfectly true and said to; Urwa: Did he Abdullah Bin Amr say to you that he had heard Allah Apostle ﷺ as saying: Urwa had forgotten to ask this from Abdullah Bin Amr. So when it was the next year; she Aisha said to him Urwa : Ibn Amr has come for Hajj ; so meet him. talk to him and ask him about this hadith that he narrated to You last year on the occasion of the Hajj pertaining to knowledge. He Urwa ; said: So I met him; and asked about it and he narrated to me exactly like one that he had narrated to me for the first time. So when I informed her Aisha about that; she said: I do not think but this that he has certainly told the truth and I find that be has neither made any addition to it; nor missed anything from it.The Chapter on Knowledge In Religion in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on 5 in Sahih Muslim
SahihMuslim-017-001-19964Abu Mousa reported Allah Apostle ﷺ as saying: The similitude of that guidance and knowledge with which Allah; the Exalted and Glorious; has sent me is that of rain falling upon the earth. There is a good piece of land which receives the rainfall eagerly and as a result of it there is grown in it herbage and grass abundantly. Then there is a land hard and barren which retains water and the people derive benefit from it and they drink it and make the animals drink. Then there is another land which is barren. Neither water is retained in it; nor is the grass grown in it. And that is the similitude of the first one who develops the understanding of the religion of Allah and it becomes a source of benefit to him with which Allah sent me. The second one is that who acquires the knowledge of religion and imparts it to others. Then the other type is one who does not pay attention to the revealed knowledge and thus does not accept guidance of Allah with which I have been sent. The Chapter on Farming And Irrigation And Earth in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on 5 in Sahih Muslim
SahihMuslim-017-001-20169Saeed Bin jubair reported: I said to Ibn Abbas that Nauf AlBikali was of the opinion that Moses ﷺ ; the Apostle of Bani Israil; was not the same who accompanied Khadir; whereupon he said: The enemy of Allah tells a lie. I heard Ubay Bin Kaab say: Moses ﷺ stood up to give sermon to the people of Israil. He was asked as to who amongst the people has the best knowledge; whereupon he said: I have the best knowledge. Thereupon Allah was annoyed with him that he did not attribute the best knowledge to Him. He revealed to him: A servant amongst My servants is at the junction of two rivers who has more knowledge than yours. Moses said: How can I meet him? It was said to him: Carry a fish in the large basket and the place where you find it missing there you will find him. Thereupon Moses proceeded forth along with a young man Yusha. Joshua Bin Nan and Moses ﷺ put the fish in the basket and there went along with him the young man Yusha until they came to a certain rock and Moses and his companion went to sleep and the fish stirred in that basket and fell into the ocean and Allah stopped the current of water like a vault until the way was made for the fish. Moses and his youn. companion were astonished and they walked for the rest of the day and the night and the friend of Moses forgot to inform him of this incident. When it was morning; Moses ﷺ said to the young man: Bring for us the breakfast for we are dead tired because of this journey; and they did not feel exhausted until they had passed that place where they had been commanded to stay. He said: Dont you know that when we reached the Sakhra rock I forgot the fisii and noth ng made me forget it but the satan that I. could nit remember it? How strange is it that the fish found a way in the river? Moses said: That was what we had been aiming at. Then both of them retraced their steps until they reached Sakhra; there they saw a man covered with a cloth. Moses greeted him. Khadir said to him: Where is AlSalam in our country.? He said: I am Moses; whereupon he Khadir said: You mean the Moses of Bani Israil? He said: Yes. He Khadir said: You have a knowledge out of the knowledge of Allah which in fact Allah imparted to you and about that I know nothing and I have knowledge out of Allah knowledge which He imparted to me and about that you do not know. Moses ﷺ said to him: May I follow you so that you may teach me that with which you have been taught righteousness. He said: You will not be able to bear with me; how you will be able to bear that about which you do not know? Moses said: Thou wilt find me patient; nor shalt I disobey you in aught. Khadir said to him: If you were to follow me; then do not ask me about anything until I myself speak to you about it. He said: Yes. So Khadir and Moses set forth on the bank of the river that there came before them a boat. Both of theni talked to them the owners of the boat so that they might carry both of them. They had recognised Khadir and they carried them free. Khadir thereupon took hold of a plank in the boat and broke it away. Moses said: These people have carried us without any charge and you attempt to break their boat so that the people sailing in the boat may drown. This is something grievous that you have done. He said: Did I not say that you would not bear with me? He said: Blame me not for what I forgot and be not hard upon what I did. Then both of them got down from the boat and began to walk along the coastline that they saw a boy who had been playing with other boys. Khadir pulled up his head and killed him. Moses said: Have you killed an innocent person who is in no way guilty of slaying another? You have done something horrible. Thereupon he said: Did I not say to you that you will not be able to bear with me? He Moses said: This act is more grievous than the first one. He Moses further said. If I ask you about anything after this; keep not company with me; then you would no doubt find a plausible excuse for this. Then they both walked on until they reached the inhabitants of a village. They asked its inhabitants for food but they refused to entertain them as their guests. They found in it a wall which had been bent on one side and was about to fall. Khadir set it right with his own hand. Moses; said to him: It is the people to whom we came but they showed us no hospitality and they did not serve us food. If you wish you can get wages for it. He Khadir said: This is the parting of ways between mt and you. Now I wish to reveal to you the significance of that for which you could not bear with me. Allah Messenger ﷺ said. May Allah have mercy upon Moses! I wish if Moses could show patience and a fuller story of both of them could have been told. Allah Messenger ﷺ said that the first thing which Moses said was out of forgetfulness. Then there came a sparrow until it perched on the wall of the boat and took water from the ocean. Thereupon; Khadir said: My knowledge and your knowledge in comparison with the knowledge of Allah is even less than the water taken by the sparrow in its beak in comparison to the water of the ocean; and Saeed Bin jubair used to recite verses 79 and 80 of Surat Kahf in this way: There was before them a king who used to seize every boat by force which was in order; the boy was an unbeliever. The Chapter on Moses And Prophets Moses And Alkhadir in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on 46 in Sahih Muslim
SahihMuslim-017-001-20171Ubay Bin Kaab narrated to us that he had heard Allah Messenger ﷺ as saying: Moses had been delivering sermons to his people. And he made this remark: No person upon the earth has better knowledge than I or nothing better than mine. Thereupon Allah revealed to him: I know one who is better than you in knowledge or there is a person on the earth having more knowledge than you. Thereupon he said: My Lord; direct me to him. It was said to him: Keep a salted fish as a provision for journey. The place where that fish would be lost there you will find that man. So he set forth and a young slave along with him until they came to a place Sakhra. but he did not find any clue. So he proceeded on and left that young man there. The fish began to stir in water and the water assumed the form of an ark over the fish. The young man said: I should meet Allah Apostle ﷺ and inform him; but he was made to forget and when they had gone beyond that place; he Moses said to the young man: Bring breakfast. We have been exhausted because of the journey; and he Moses was not exhausted until he had crossed that particular place where he had to meet Khadir; and the youth was reminded and said: Did you not see that as we reached Sakhra I forgot the fish and it is satan alone who has made me forgetful of it? It is strange that he has been able to find way in the ocean too. He said: This is what we sought for us. They returned retracing their steps; and he his companion pointed to him the location where the fish had been lost. Moses began to search him there. He suddenly saw Khadir wrapped in a cloth and lying on his back. He said to him: AlSalamu-Alaikum. He removed the cloth from his face and said: Wa Alaikum-us-Salam! Who are you? He said: I am Moses. He said: Who Moses? He said: Moses Of Bani Israil. He said: What brought you here? He said: I have come so that you may teach me what you have been taught of righteousness. He said: You shall have to bear with me; and how can you have patience about a thing of which you have no comprehensive knowledge? You will not have patience when you see me doing a thing I have been ordered to do. He said: If Allah pleases; you will find me patient; nor shall I disobey you in aught. Khadir said: If you follow me; dont ask me about anything until I explain it to you. So they went on until they embarked upon a boat. He Khadir made a hole in that. Thereupon he Moses said: You have done this so that you may drown the persons sitting in the boat. You have done something grievous. Thereupon he said: Did I not tell you that you will not be able to bear with me? Thereupon he Moses said: Blame me not for what I forgot and be not hard upon me for what I did. Khadir gave him another chance. So they went on until they reached a place where boys were playing. He went to one of them and caught holdof one apparently at random and killed him. Moses ﷺ felt agitated and said: You have killed an innocent person not guilty of slaying another. You have done something aboininable. Thereupon Allah Messenger ﷺ said: May Allah have mercy upon us and Moses. Had he shown patience he would have seen wonderful things; but fear of blame; with respect to his companion; seized him and he said: If I ask anything after this; keep not company with me. You will then have a valid excuse in my case; and had he Moses shown patience he would have seen many wonderful things. He the narrator said: Whenever he the Holy Prophet made mention of any Prophet; he always said: May there be mercy of Allah upon us and upon my brother so and so. They; however; proceeded on until they came to the inhabitants of a village who were very miserly. They went to the meeting places and asked for hospitality but they refused to show any hospitality to them. They both found in that village a wall which was about to fall. He Khadir set it right. Thereupon he Moses said: If you so liked. you could get wages for it. Thereupon he said: This is the partince; of ways between me and you; and; taking hold of his cloth; he said: Now I will explain to you the real significance of all these acts for which you could not show patience. As for the boat; it belonged to the poor people working on the river and I intended to damage it for there was ahead of them a king who seized boats by force. When he came to catch hold of it he found it a damaged boat; so he spared it and later on it was set right with wood. So far as the boy is concerned; he has been; by very nature; an unbeliever; whereas his parents loved him very much. Had he grown up he would have involved them in wrongdoing and unbelief; so we wished that their Lord should give them in its place one better in purity and close to mercy. And as for the wall it belonged to two orphan boys in the city and there was beneath it a treasure belongin to them;... up to the last verse. The Chapter on Moses And Prophets Moses And Alkhadir in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on 46 in Sahih Muslim
SahihMuslim-017-001-20174Utba Bin Mas; ud reported that Abdullah Bin Abbas contended with Hurr Bin Qais Bin Housn AlFazari aboat the companion of Moses peace be upon hiin. Ibn Abbas said that he was Khadir. There happened to pass Ubay Bin Kaab Ansari. Ibn Abbas called him and said: Abu Tufail; come to us. There has been a difference of opinion between me and my friend about the companion of Moses whom he wanted to meet on the way. Did hear anything from Allah meesenger ﷺ making a mention of anything? Ubay said: I heard Allah Messenger ﷺ as saying: As Moses was amongst the group of Bani Israil; there came to him a person and he said to him: Do you know anyone having better knowledge than you? Moses said: No. Thereupon Allah revealed to Moses: Of course; there is amongst Our servants Khadir who has better knowledge than you. Moses asked the way of meeting him. Allah made the fish a sign and it was said to him: Where you miss the fish return to that place and you will soon find him. So Moses moved on as Allah wished him to move on. He then said to his young companion: Bring for us the breakfast. Thereupop that young man said to Moses. when he asked him for the breakfast: Dont you see that as we had reached the Sakhra I forgot the fish and nobody made it forget in our mind but the satan that I should remind you of it? Mosed said to that young man: This was what we wanted. So they retraced their steps and met Khadir and the events which followed have been described in His Book except that Yunus the narrator said that he followed the traces of fish in the ocean. The Chapter on Moses And Prophets Moses And Companion Forgoting The Fish in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on 46 in Sahih Muslim

SunanAlTermithi-017-001-10017Narrated Ibn Abbas: The Quraish said to the Jews: Give us something that we can ask this man about. So he said: Ask him about the Ruh. So they asked him about the Ruh. So Allah Most High; revealed: They ask you concerning the Ruh. Say: The Ruh is one of the things; the knowledge of which is only with my Lord. And of knowledge; you have been given only a little 17:85. They replied: We have been given immense knowledge; we were given the Tawrah; and whoever has been given the Tawrah; then he has indeed been given a wealth of knowledge. So the following was revealed: Say: If the sea were ink for the Words of my Lord; surely the sea would be exhausted before the Words of my Lord would be finished. 18:109The Chapter on Allah Characteristics Vs Evil in HodHood Indexing, The Book of Chapters on Tafsir in Sunan AlTermithi

In Sunan Abu Dawoud

Hadith PageArabic TextEnglish TranslationBook and Chapter
SunanAbuDawoud-017-001-25829Sufyan said according to one chain ; and Abu AlSalit said according to another chain : A man wrote to Umar Bin Abd AlAziz asking him about Divine decree. He wrote to him: To begin with; I enjoin upon you to fear Allah; to be moderate in obeying His Command; to follow the sunnah practice of His Prophet ﷺ and to abandon the novelties which the innovators introduced after his Sunnah has been established and they were saved from its trouble i.e. novelty or innovation ; so stick to Sunnah; for it is for you; if Allah chooses; a protection ; then you should know that any innovation which the people introduced was refuted long before it on the basis of some authority or there was some lesson in it; for the Sunnah was introduced by the people who were conscious of the error; slip; foolishness; and extremism in case of the sunnah was opposed. So accept for yourself what the people in the past had accepted for themselves; for they had complete knowledge of whatever they were informed; and by penetrating insight they forbade to do prohibited acts ; they had more strength than us to disclose the matters of religion ; and they were far better than us by virtue of their merits. If right guidance is what you are following; then you outstriped them to it. And if you say whatever the novelty occurred after them was introduced by those who followed the way other then theirs and disliked them. It is they who actually outstripped; and talked about it sufficiently; and gave a satisfactory explanation for it. Below them there is no place for exhaustiveness; and above them there is no place for elaborating things. Some people shortened the matter more than they had done; and thus they turned away from them ; and some people raised the matter more than they had done; and thus they exaggerated. They were on right guidance between that. You have written to me asking about confession of Divine decree; you have indeed approached a person who is well informed of it; with the will of Allah. I know what whatever novelty people have brought in; and whatever innovation people have introduced are not more manifest and more established than confession of Divine decree. The ignorant people i.e. the Arabs before Islam in pre-Islamic times have mentioned it ; they talked about it in their speeches and in their poetry. They would console themselves for what they lost; and Islam then strengthened it i.e. belief in Divine decree. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ did not mention it in one or two traditions; but the Muslims heard it from him; and they talked of it from him; and they talked of it during his lifetime and after his death. They did so out of belief and submission to their Lord and thinking themselves weak. There is nothing which is not surrounded by His knowledge; and not counted by His register and not destined by His decree. Despite that; it has been strongly mentioned in His Book: from it they have derived it; and from it they have and so ? they also read in it what you read; and they knew its interpretation of which you are ignorant. After that they said: All this is by writing and decreeing. Distress has been written down; and what has been destined will occur ; what Allah wills will surely happen; and what He does not will will not happen. We have no power to harm or benefit ourselves. Then after that they showed interest in good works and were afraid of bad deeds. The Chapter on Angeles And Good Deeds And Bad Decrees in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on Adherence To The Sunnah in Sunan Abu Dawoud
SunanAbuDawoud-017-001-26955Narrated Buraydah Ibn AlHasib: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: In eloquence there is magic; in knowledge ignorance; in poetry wisdom; and in speech heaviness. Sasaah Ibn Suhan said: The Prophet of Allah ﷺ spoke the truth. His statement In eloquence there is magic means: For example ; there is a right due from a man who is more eloquent in reasoning than the man who is demanding his right. He the defendant charms the people by his speech and takes away his right. His statement In knowledge there is ignorance means: A scholar brings to his knowledge what he does not know; and thus he becomes ignorant of that. His statement In poetry there is wisdom means: These are the sermons and examples by which people receive admonition. His statement In speech there is heaviness means: That you present your speech and your talk to a man who is not capable of understanding it; and who does not want it.The Chapter on Truth And Hypocrisy And Dreams in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on What has been narrated about poetry in Sunan Abu Dawoud

A man came to him and said: AbudDarda; I have come to you from the town of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ for a tradition that I have heard you relate from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. I have come for no other purpose. He said: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: If anyone travels on a road in search of knowledge; Allah will cause him to travel on one of the roads of Paradise. The angels will lower their wings in their great pleasure with one who seeks knowledge; the inhabitants of the heavens and the Earth and the fish in the deep waters will ask forgiveness for the learned man. The superiority of the learned man over the devout is like that of the moon; on the night when it is full; over the rest of the stars. I asked everyone about giving rewards from the booty. I did not find anyone who could tell me anything about it. I then met an old man called Ziyad Ibn Jariyah AlTamimi. MuwataMalik-017-001-35087Yahya related to me from Malik that he had heard that Muhammad Seereen used to say; Do not sell grain on the ears until it is white. Malik said; If someone buys food for a known price to be delivered at a stated date; and when the date comes; the one who owes the food says; I do not have any food; sell me the food which I owe you with delayed terms. The owner of the food says; This is not good; because the Messenger of Allah; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; forbade selling food until the deal was completed. The one who owes the food says to his creditor; Sell me any kind of food on delayed terms until I discharge the debt to you. This is not good because he gives him food and then he returns it to him. The gold which he gave him becomes the price of that which is his right against him and the food which he gave him becomes what clears what is between them. If they do that; it becomes the sale of food before the deal is complete. Malik spoke about a man who was owed food which he had purchased from a man and this man was owed the like of that food by another man. The one who owed the food said to his creditor; I will refer you to my debtor who owes me the same amount of food as I owe you; so that you may obtain the food which I owe you. Malik said; If the man who had to deliver the food; had gone out; and bought the food to pay off his creditor; that is not good. That is selling food before taking possession of it. If the food is an advance which falls due at that particular time; there is no harm in paying off his creditor with it because that is nota sale. It is not halal to sell food before receiving it in full since the Messenger of Allah; may Allah bless him and grant him peace; forbade that. However; the people of knowledge agree that there is no harm in partnership; transfer of responsibility and revocation in sales of food and other goods. Malik said; That is because the people of knowledge consider it as a favour rendered. They do not consider it as a sale. It is like a man lending light dirhams. He is then paid back in dirhams of full weight; and so gets back more than he lent. That is halal for him and permitted. Had a man bought defective dirhams from him as being the full weight; that would not be halal. Had it been stipulated to him that he lend full weight in dirhams; and then he gave faulty ones; that would not be halal for him.The Chapter on Financial Transaction And Food in HodHood Indexing, The Book of Drinks in Muwata Malik
MuwataMalik-017-001-35157Yahya related to me from Malik from Rabia Ibn Abi Abdulrahman from more than one of the people of knowledge of that time; that those who were killed on the Day of the Camel; the Day of Siffin; the Day of AlHarra; and the Day of Qudayd did not inherit from each other. None of them inherited anything from his companion unless it was known that he had been killed before his companion. Malik said; That is the way of doing things about which there is no dispute; and which none of the people of knowledge in our city doubt. The procedure with two mutual heirs who are drowned; or killed in another way; when it is not known which of them died first is the same - neither of them inherits anything from his companion. Their inheritance goes to whoever remains of their heirs. They are inherited from by the living. Malik said; No one should inherit from anyone else when there is doubt; and one should only inherit from the other when there is certainty of knowledge and witnesses. That is because a man and his mawla whom his father has freed might die at the same time. The sons of the free man could say; Our father inherited from the mawla. They should not inherit from the mawla without knowledge or testimony that he died first. The living people most entitled to his wala inherit from him. Malik said; Another example is two full brothers who die. One of them has children and the other does not. They have a half-brother by their father. It is not known which of them died first; so the inheritance of the childless one goes to his half-brother by the father. The children of the full-brother get nothing. Malik said; Another example is when a paternal aunt and the son of her brother die; or else the daughter of the brother and her paternal uncle. It is not known which of them died first. The paternal uncle does not inherit anything from the daughter of his brother; and the son of the brother does not inherit anything from his paternal aunt. The Chapter on Inheritance And Half Brothers in HodHood Indexing, The Book of Hudud in Muwata Malik
MuwataMalik-017-001-35313Yahya related to me from Malik from Yahya Ibn Said that Said Ibn AlMusayab had said that Umar Ibn AlKhattab said; If a man marries a woman who is insane; or has leprosy or white leprosy; without being told of her condition by her guardian; and he has sexual relations with her; she keeps her bride-price in its entirety. Her husband has damages against her guardian. Malik said; The husband has damages against her guardian when the guardian is her father; brother; or one who is deemed to have knowledge of her condition. If the guardian who gives her in marriage is a nephew; a mawla or a member of her tribe who is not deemed to have knowledge of her condition; there are no damages against him; and the woman returns what she has taken of her bride-price; and the husband leaves her whatever amount is thought to be fair. The Chapter on Marriage And Consummating The Marriage in HodHood Indexing, The Book of Game in Muwata Malik
MuwataMalik-017-001-35540Yahya related to me from Malik that he had heard the people of knowledge telling people not to fast on the day in Shaban when there was doubt about whether it was Shaban or Ramadan ; if they intended by it the fast of Ramadan. They considered that whoever fasted on that day without having seen the new moon had to make up that day if it later became clear that it was part of Ramadan. They did not see any harm in voluntary fasting on that day. Malik said; This is what we do; and what I have seen the people of knowledge in our city doing. The Chapter on Ramadan And Fasting And Deeds in HodHood Indexing, The Book of Divorce in Muwata Malik
MuwataMalik-017-001-35545Yahya related to me from Malik that he had heard that the people of knowledge did not disapprove of people fasting using tooth-sticks at any hour of the day in Ramadan; whether at the beginning or the end; nor had he heard any of the people of knowledge disapproving of or forbidding the practice. Yahya said that he heard Malik say; about fasting for six days after breaking the fast at the end of Ramadan; that he had never seen any of the people of knowledge and fiqh fasting them. He said; I have not heard that any of our predecessors used to do that; and the people of knowledge disapprove of it and they are afraid that it might become a bida and that common and ignorant people might join to Ramadan what does not belong to it; if they were to think that the people of knowledge had given permission for that to be done and were seen doing it. Yahya said that he heard Malik say; I have never heard any of the people of knowledge and fiqh and those whom people take as an example forbidding fasting on the day of jumua. Fasting on it is good; and I have seen one of the people of knowledge fasting it; and it seemed to me that he was keen to do so.The Chapter on Ignorance And Knowledge in HodHood Indexing, The Book of Faraid in Muwata Malik
MuwataMalik-017-001-35767Yahya related to me from Malik that he had heard the people of knowledge say; Women do not have to raise their voices when they are doing talbiya; and a woman should only speak loudly enough to hear herself. Malik said; Some one who is in ihram should not raise his voice when doing talbiya if he is in a Masjid where there are groups of people. He should only speak loudly enough for himself and those who are near him to be able to hear; except in the Masjid alHaram and the Masjid at Mina; where he should raise his voice. Malik said; I have heard some of the people of knowledge recommending people to do talbiya at the end of every prayer and at every rise on the route. The Chapter on Recitations And Poetry And Knowledge in HodHood Indexing, The Book of Hajj in Muwata Malik
