Hadith PageArabic TextEnglish TranslationBook and Chapter
SahihAlBukhari-017-001-1677Narrated Ibn Abbas: A man came to Allah Messenger ﷺ and said; I saw in a dream; a cloud having shade. Butter and honey were dropping from it and I saw the people gathering it in their hands; some gathering much and some a little. And behold; there was a rope extending from the earth to the sky; and I saw that you the Prophet held it and went up; and then another man held it and went up and after that another third held it and went up; and then after another fourth man held it; but it broke and then got connected again. Abu Bakr said; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! Let my father be sacrificed for you! Allow me to interpret this dream. The Prophet ﷺ said to him; Interpret it. Abu Bakr said; The cloud with shade symbolizes Islam; and the butter and honey dropping from it; symbolizes the Quran; its sweetness dropping and some people learning much of the Quran and some a little. The rope which is extended from the sky to the earth is the Truth which you the Prophet are following. You follow it and Allah will raise you high with it; and then another man will follow it and will rise up with it and another person will follow it and then another man will follow it but it will break and then it will be connected for him and he will rise up with it. O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! Let my father be sacrificed for you! Am I right or wrong? The Prophet replied; You are right in some of it and wrong in some. Abu Bakr said; O Allah Prophet! By Allah; you must tell me in what I was wrong. The Prophet ﷺ said; Do not swear. The Chapter on Mischief In Earth Aldajjal in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on Considering the interpretation of a dream invalid in Sahih AlBukhari
SahihAlBukhari-017-001-1993Narrated Aisha: Allah Messenger ﷺ used to like sweets and also used to like honey; and whenever he finished the Asr prayer; he used to visit his wives and stay with them. Once he visited Hafsa and remained with her longer than the period he used to stay; so I enquired about it. It was said to me; A woman from her tribe gave her a leather skin containing honey as a present; and she gave some of it to Allah Messenger ﷺ to drink. I said; By Allah; we will play a trick on him. So I mentioned the story to Sauda the wife of the Prophet and said to her; When he enters upon you; he will come near to you whereupon you should say to him; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! Have you eaten Maghafir? He will say; No. Then you say to him; What is this bad smell? And it would be very hard on Allah Messenger ﷺ that a bad smell should be found on his body. He will say; Hafsa has given me a drink of honey. Then you should say to him; Its bees must have sucked from the AlUrfut a foul smelling flower. I too; will tell him the same. And you; O Saifya; say the same. So when the Prophet ﷺ entered upon Sauda the following happened. Sauda said; By Him except Whom none has the right to be worshipped; I was about to say to him what you had told me to say while he was still at the gate because of fear from you. But when Allah Apostle came near to me; I said to him; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! Have you eaten Maghafir? He replied; No. I said; What about this smell? He said; Hafsa has given me a drink of honey. I said; Its bees must have sucked AlUrfut. When he entered upon me; I told him the same as that; and when he entered upon Safiya; she too told him the same. So when he visited Hafsa again; she said to him; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! Shall I give you a drink of it honey ? He said; I have no desire for it. Sauda said; Subhan Allah! We have deprived him of it honey. I said to her; Be quiet! The Chapter on Drinks And Sharayah in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on The trick by a woman with her husband in Sahih AlBukhari

SahihAlBukhari-017-001-3136Narrated Aisha: Allah Messenger ﷺ was fond of honey and sweet edible things and it was his habit that after finishing the Asr prayer he would visit his wives and stay with one of them at that time. Once he went to Hafsa; the daughter of Umar and stayed with her more than usual. I got jealous and asked the reason for that. I was told that a lady of her folk had given her a skin filled with honey as a present; and that she made a syrup from it and gave it to the Prophet ﷺ to drink and that was the reason for the delay. I said; By Allah we will play a trick on him to prevent him from doing so. So I said to Sada bint Zama The Prophet ﷺ will approach you; and when he comes near you; say: Have you taken Maghafir a bad-smelling gum ? He will say; No. Then say to him: Then what is this bad smell which i smell from you? He will say to you; Hafsa made me drink honey syrup. Then say: Perhaps the bees of that honey had sucked the juice of the tree of AlUrfut. I shall also say the same. O you; Safiya; say the same. Later Sada said; By Allah; as soon as he the Prophet ﷺ stood at the door; I was about to say to him what you had ordered me to say because I was afraid of you. So when the Prophet ﷺ came near Sada; she said to him; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! Have you taken Maghafir? He said; No. She said. Then what is this bad smell which I detect on you? He said; Hafsa made me drink honey syrup. She said; Perhaps its bees had sucked the juice of AlUrfut tree. When he came to me; I also said the same; and when he went to Safiya; she also said the same. And when the Prophet ﷺ again went to Hafsa; she said; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! SahihMuslim-017-001-19639It is reported either on the authority of Ibn Abbas or on the authority of Abu Huraira that a person came to Allah Messenger ﷺ and said: Allah Messenger; I saw while I was sleeping during the night this vision that there was a canopy from which butter and honey were trickling and I also saw people collecting them in the palms of their hands; some more; some less; and I also saw a rope connecting the earth with the sky and I saw you catching hold of it and rising towards the heaven; then another person after you catching hold of it and rising towards Heaven ; then another person catching hold of it; but it was broken while it was rejoined for him and he also climbed up. Abu Bakr said: Allah Messenger; may my father be sacrificed for you; by Allah; allow me to interpret it. Allah Messenger ﷺ said: Well; give its interpretation. Thereupon Abu Bakr said: The canopy signifies the canopy of Islam and that what trickles out of it in the form of butter and honey is the Holy Quran and its sweetness and softness and what the people get hold of it in their palms implies major portion of the Quran or the small portion; and so far as the rope joining the sky with the earth is concerned; it is the Truth by which you stood in the worldly life and by which Allah would raise you to Heaven. Then the person after you would take hold of it and he would also climb up with the help of it. Then another person would take hold of it and climb up with the help of it. Then another person would take hold of it and it would be broken; then it would be rejoined for him and he would climb up with the help of it. Allah Messenger; may my father be taken as a ransom for you; tell me whether I have interpreted it correctly or I have made an error. Allah Messenger ﷺ said: You have interpreted a part of it correctly and you have erred in interpreting a part of it. Thereupon he said: Allah Messenger; by Allah; tell me that part where I have committed an error. Thereupon he said: Dont take an oath. The Chapter on Games And Hunting And Alquran in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on 3 in Sahih Muslim

So he gave him that and then came and said: I gave him honey but it has only made his bowels more loose. He said this three times; and then he came the fourth time; and he the Holy Prophet said: Give him honey. He said: I did give him; but it has only made his bowels more loose; whereupon Allah Messenger ﷺ said: Allah has spoken the truth and your brother bowels are in the wrong. So he made him drink honey and he was recovered. The Chapter on Forbidden And Allowed In Drinks in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on 31 in Sahih Muslim

He the Holy Prophet visited one of them and she said to him like this; whereupon he said: I have taken honey in the house of Zainab bint Jabsh and I will never do it again. It was at this that the following verse was revealed : Why do you hold to be forbidden what Allah has made lawful for you... up to. This refers to his saying: But I have taken honey. The Chapter on Drinks And Sharayah in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on 3 in Sahih Muslim
SahihMuslim-017-001-21504Aisha Allah be pleased with her reported Allah Messenger ﷺ liked sweet dish and honey. After saying the afternoon prayer he used to visit his wives going close to them. So he went to Hafsa and stayed with her more than what was his usual stay. I Aisha asked about that. It was said to me: A woman of her family had sent her a small vessel of honey as a gift; and she gave to Allah Messenger ﷺ from that a drink. I said: By Allah; we would also contrive a device for him. I mentioned that to Sauda; and said: When he Allah Apostle would visit you and draw close to you; say to him: Allah Messenger; have you taken maghafir? And he wouldsay to you: No. Then say to him: What is this odour? And Allah Messenger ﷺ felt it very much that unpleasant odour should emit from him. So he would say to you: Hafsa has given me a drink of honey. Then you should say to him: The honey-bees might have sucked Urfut; and I would also say the same to him and. Safiya; you should also say this. So when he the Holy Prophet came to Sauda; she said: By Him besides whom there is no god; it was under compulsion that I had decided to state that which you told me when he would be at a little distance at the door. So when Allah Messenger ﷺ came near; she said: Messenger of Allah; did you eat Maghafir? He said: No. She again said: Then what is this odour? He said: Hafsa gave me honey to drink. She said: The honey-bee might have sucked Urfut. When he came to me I told him like this. He then visited Safiya and she also said to him like this. When he again visited Hafsa; she said: Messenger of Allah; should I not give you that drink ? He said: I do not need that. MuwataMalik-017-001-34765Yahya related to me from Malik from Daud Ibn AlHusayn that Waqid Ibn Amr Ibn Sad Ibn Muadh informed him from Mahmud Ibn Labid AlAnsari that when Umar Ibn AlKhattab went to AlSham; the people of AlSham complained to him about the bad air of their land and its heaviness. They said; Only this drink helps. Umar said; Drink this honey preparation. They said; Honey does not help us. A man from the people of that land said; Can we give you something of this drink which does not intoxicate? He said; Yes. They cooked it until two- thirds of it evaporated and one-third of it remained. Then they brought it to Umar. Umar put his finger in it and then lifted his head and extended it. He said; This is fruit juice concentrated by boiling. This is like the distillation with which you smear the camel scabs. Umar ordered them to drink it. Ubada Ibn AlSamit said to him; You have made it halal; by Allah! Umar said; No; by Allah! O Allah! I will not make anything halal for them which You have made haram for them!
