SahihAlBukhari-017-001-1288Narrated Zaid Bin Thabit: Abu Bakr sent for me owing to the large number of casualties in the battle of AlYamama; while Umar was sitting with him. Abu Bakr said to me ; Umar has come to my and said; A great number of Qaris of the Holy Quran were killed on the day of the battle of AlYamama; and I am afraid that the casualties among the Qaris of the Quran may increase on other battle-fields whereby a large part of the Quran may be lost. Therefore I consider it advisable that you Abu Bakr should have the Quran collected. I said; How dare I do something which Allah Messenger ﷺ did not do? Umar said; By Allah; it is something beneficial. Umar kept on pressing me for that till Allah opened my chest for that for which He had opened the chest of Umar and I had in that matter; the same opinion as Umar had. Abu Bakr then said to me Zaid ; You are a wise young man and we do not have any suspicion about you; and you used to write the Divine Inspiration for Allah Messenger ﷺ. So you should search for the fragmentary scripts of the Quran and collect it in one Book. Zaid further said: By Allah; if Abu Bakr had ordered me to shift a mountain among the mountains from one place to another it would not have been heavier for me than this ordering me to collect the Quran. Then I said to Umar and Abu Bakr ; How can you do something which Allah Messenger ﷺ did not do? Abu Bakr said; By Allah; it is something beneficial. Zaid added: So he Abu Bakr kept on pressing me for that until Allah opened my chest for that for which He had opened the chests of Abu Bakr and Umar; and I had in that matter; the same opinion as theirs. So I started compiling the Quran by collecting it from the leafless stalks of the date-palm tree and from the pieces of leather and hides and from the stones; and from the chests of men who had memorized the Quran. I found the last verses of Surat AlTauba: Verily there has come unto you an Apostle Muhammad from amongst yourselves- 9.128-129 from Khuzaima or Abi Khuzaima and I added to it the rest of the Sura. The manuscripts of the Quran remained with Abu Bakr till Allah took him unto Him. Then it remained with Umar till Allah took him unto Him; and then with Hafsa bint Umar. The Chapter on Lost And Found And Alquran in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on It is desirable that a scribe should be honest and wise in Sahih AlBukhari
SahihAlBukhari-017-001-3253Narrated Zaid Bin Thabit: Abu Bakr AlSiddiq sent for me when the people! of Yamama had been killed i.e.; a number of the Prophet Companions who fought against Mousailama. I went to him and found Umar Bin AlKhattab sitting with him. Abu Bakr then said to me ; Umar has come to me and said: Casualties were heavy among the Qurra of the! Quran i.e. those who knew the Quran by heart on the day of the Battle of Yalmama; and I am afraid that more heavy casualties may take place among the Qurra on other battlefields; whereby a large part of the Quran may be lost. Therefore I suggest; you Abu Bakr order that the Quran be collected. I said to Umar; How can you do something which Allah Apostle did not do? Umar said; By Allah; that is a good project. Umar kept on urging me to accept his proposal till Allah opened my chest for it and I began to realize the good in the idea which Umar had realized. Then Abu Bakr said to me. You are a wise young man and we do not have any suspicion about you; and you used to write the Divine Inspiration for Allah Messenger ﷺ. So you should search for the fragmentary scripts of the Quran and collect it in one book. By Allah If they had ordered me to shift one of the mountains; it would not have been heavier for me than this ordering me to collect the Quran. Then I said to Abu Bakr; How will you do something which Allah Messenger ﷺ did not do? Abu Bakr replied; By Allah; it is a good project. Abu Bakr kept on urging me to accept his idea until Allah opened my chest for what He had opened the chests of Abu Bakr and Umar. So I started looking for the Quran and collecting it from what was written on palmed stalks; thin white stones and also from the men who knew it by heart; till I found the last Verse of Surat AlTauba Repentance with Abi Khuzaima AlAnsari; and I did not find it with anybody other than him. The Verse is: Verily there has come unto you an Apostle Muhammad from amongst yourselves. It grieves him that you should receive any injury or difficulty.. till the end of Surat Baraa AlTauba 9.128-129 Then the complete manuscripts copy of the Quran remained with Abu Bakr till he died; then with Umar till the end of his life; and then with Hafsa; the daughter of Umar. The Chapter on Lost And Found And Alquran in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on The collection of the Quran in Sahih AlBukhari
SahihAlBukhari-017-001-4569Narrated Sahl Bin Saad AlSaidi: Allah Messenger ﷺ and the pagans faced each other and started fighting. When Allah Messenger ﷺ returned to his camp and when the pagans returned to their camp; somebody talked about a man amongst the companions of Allah Messenger ﷺ who would follow and kill with his sword any pagan going alone. He said; Nobody did his job i.e. fighting so properly today as that man. Allah Messenger ﷺ said; Indeed; he is amongst the people of the Hell Fire. A man amongst the people said; I shall accompany him to watch what he does Thus he accompanied him; and wherever he stood; he would stand with him; and wherever he ran; he would run with him. Then the brave man got wounded seriously and he decided to bring about his death quickly. He planted the blade of the sword in the ground directing its sharp end towards his chest between his two breasts. Then he leaned on the sword and killed himself. The other man came to Allah Messenger ﷺ and said; I testify that you are Allah Messenger ﷺ. The Prophet ﷺ asked; What has happened? He replied; It is about the man whom you had described as one of the people of the Hell Fire. The people were greatly surprised at what you said; and I said; I will find out his reality for you. So; I came out seeking him. He got severely wounded; and hastened to die by slanting the blade of his sword in the ground directing its sharp end towards his chest between his two breasts. Then he eased on his sword and killed himself. when Allah Messenger ﷺ said; A man may seem to the people as if he were practising the deeds of the people of Paradise while in fact he is from the people of the Hell Fire; another may seem to the people as if he were practicing the deeds of the people of Hell Fire ; while in fact he is from the people of Paradise. The Chapter on Good Manners And Deeds in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on Do not say that soandso is a martyr in Sahih AlBukhari

Dhu AlKhalasa was a house of an idol belonging to the tribe of Khatham called AlKaba AlYama-niya. So; I proceeded with one hundred and fifty cavalry men from the tribe of Ahmas; who were excellent knights. It happened that I could not sit firm on horses; so the Prophet ﷺ ; stroke me over my chest till I saw his finger-marks over my chest; he said; O Allah! Make him firm and make him a guiding and rightly guided man. Jarir proceeded towards that house; and dismantled and burnt it. Then he sent a messenger to Allah Apostle informing him of that. Jarir messenger said; By Him Who has sent you with the Truth; I did not come to you till I had left it like an emancipated or gabby camel i.e. completely marred and spoilt. Dhu AlKhalasa was a house where the tribe of Khatham used to stay; and it used to be called Kabat AlYamaniya. So I proceeded with one hundred-and-fifty men from the tribe of Ahmas who were good cavalry. I informed the Prophet ﷺ that I could not sit firm on horses; so he stroke me on the chest with his hand and I noticed his finger marks on my chest. He invoked; O Allah! Make him firm and a guiding and rightly-guided man. Jarir set out towards that place; dismantled and burnt it; and then sent the good news to Allah Messenger ﷺ. The messenger of Jarir said to Allah Messenger ﷺ. O Allah Apostle! SahihAlBukhari-017-001-5086Narrated Abu Huraira: The people say that Abu Huraira narrates too many narrations. In fact Allah knows whether I say the truth or not. They also ask; Why do the emigrants and the Ansar not narrate as he does? In fact; my emigrant brethren were busy trading in the markets; and my Ansar brethren were busy with their properties. I was a poor man keeping the company of Allah Messenger ﷺ and was satisfied with what filled my stomach. So; I used to be present while they i.e. the emigrants and the Ansar were absent; and I used to remember while they forgot the Hadith. One day the Prophet ﷺ said; Whoever spreads his sheet till I finish this statement of mine and then gathers it on his chest; will never forget anything of my statement. So; I spread my covering sheet which was the only garment I had; till the Prophet ﷺ finished his statement and then I gathered it over my chest. By Him Who had sent him i.e. Allah Apostle with the truth; since then I did not forget even a single word of that statement of his; until this day of mine. By Allah; but for two verses in Allah Book; I would never have related any narration from the Prophet. These two verses are : Verily! Amongst the companions of the Prophet ﷺ there was a man who could not help pursuing any single isolated pagan to strike him with his sword. A man amongst the people i.e. Muslims said; I will accompany him to know the fact. So he went along with him; and whenever he stopped he stopped with him; and whenever he hastened; he hastened with him. The brave man then got wounded severely; and seeking to die at once; he planted his sword into the ground and put its point against his chest in between his breasts; and then threw himself on it and committed suicide. On that the person who was accompanying the deceased all the time came to Allah Messenger ﷺ and said; I testify that you are the Messenger of Allah. The Prophet ﷺ said; Why is that what makes you say so ? He said It is concerning the man whom you have already mentioned as one of the dwellers of the Hell-Fire. The people were surprised by your statement; and I said to them; I will try to find out the truth about him for you. So I went out after him and he was then inflicted with a severe wound and because of that; he hurried to bring death upon himself by planting the handle of his sword into the ground and directing its tip towards his chest between his breasts; and then he threw himself over it and committed suicide. Allah Messenger ﷺ then said; A man may do what seem to the people as the deeds of the dwellers of Paradise but he is from the dwellers of the Hell-Fire and another may do what seem to the people as the deeds of the dwellers of the Hell- Fire; but he is from the dwellers of Paradise. The Chapter on Good Manners And Deeds in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on Ghazwa of Khaibar in Sahih AlBukhari

SahihMuslim-017-001-18595It is reported on the authority of Sahl Bin Saad AlSaidi that there was an encounter between the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and the polytheists; and they fought against one another. At the conclusion of the battle the Messenger of Allah ﷺ bent his steps towards his army and they the enemies bent their steps towards their army. And there was a person his name was Quzman and he was one of the hypocrites among the Companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ who did not spare a detached fighter of the enemy but pursued and killed him with the sword. They the Companions of the Holy Prophet said: None served us better today than this man Upon this the Messenger of Allah ﷺ remarked: Verily he is one of the denizens of Fire. One of the people Muslims said: I will constantly shadow him. Then this man went out along with him. He halted whenever he halted; and ran along with him whenever he ran. He the narrator said: The man was seriously injured. He could not stand the pain and hastened his own death. He placed the blade of the sword on the ground with the tip between his chest and then pressed himself against the sword and killed himself. Then the man following him went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: I bear testimony that verily thou art the Messenger of Allah; He the Holy Prophet said: What is the matter? He replied: The person about whom you just mentioned that he was one among the denizens of Fire and the people were surprised at this and I said to them that I would bring the news about him and consequently I went out in search of him till I found him to be very seriously injured. He hastened his death. He placed the blade of the sword upon the ground and its tip between his chest and then pressed himself against that and killed himself. Thereupon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ remarked: A person performs the deeds which to the people appear to be the deeds befitting the dweller of Paradise; but he is in fact one of the denizens of Hell. And verily a person does an act which in the eyes of public is one which is done by the denizens of Hell; but the person is one among the dwellers of Paradise. The Chapter on Lost And Found And The Companions in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on 47 in Sahih Muslim
SahihMuslim-017-001-20809Ibn Shihab transmitted on the authority of Ibn Mousayib that Abu Huraira said: People say that Abu Huraira transmits so many ahadith; whereas Allah is the Reckoner; and they say: How is it with Muhajirs and the Ansar that they do not narrate ahadith like him like Abu Huraira ? Abu Huraira said: I tell you that my brothers from Ansar remained busy with their lands and my brothers Muhajirs were busy in transactions in the bazars; but I always kept myself attached to Allah Messenger ﷺ with bare subsistence. I remained present in the company of the Holy Prophet ; whereas they had been absent. I retained in my mind what the Prophet said ; whereas they forgot it. One day Allah Messenger ﷺ said: He who amongst you spreads the cloth and listens to my talk and would then press it against his chest would never forget anything heard from me. So I spread my mantle and when he had concluded his talk I then pressed it against my chest and so I never forgot after that day anything that he the Holy Prophet said. SahihMuslim-017-001-21942Ahnaf Bin Qais reported: I came to Medina and when I was in the company of the grandees of Quraish a man with a crude body and an uncouth face wearing coarse clothes came there. He stood up before them and said: Give glad tidings to those whom who amass riches of the stones which would be heated in the Fire of Hell; and would be placed at the tick of the chest till it would project from the shoulder bone and would he put on the shoulder bone till it would project from the tick of his chest; and it this stone would continue passing and repassing from one side to the other. He the narrator said: Then people hung their heads and I saw none among them giving any answer. He then returned and I followed him till he sat near a pillar. I said: I find that these people disliked what you said to them and they do not understand anything. My friend Ab AlQasim Muhammad may peace he upon him called me and I responded to him; and he said: Do you see Uhud? I saw the sun shining on me and I thought that he would send me on an errand for him. So I said: I see it. Upon this he said: Nothing would delight me more than this that I should have gold like it equal to the bulk of Uhud ; and I should spend it all except three dinars. How sad it is that they hoard worldly riches; and they know nothing. I said: What about you and your brothers Quraish? You do not go to thein for any need and do not accept anything from them. He stood up and had a scuffle with Abu Said. Then the people gathered there He came out and went to Marwan and complained to him what had happened to him. Abu Saeed too came to Marwan. Marwin said to him: What has happened to you and the son of your brother that he came to complain against you? SunanAlTermithi-017-001-9980Narrated AlZuhri: From Ubaid Bin AlSabbaq; that Zaid Bin Thabit narrated to him; he said: Abu Bakr AlSiddiq sent for me - regarding those killed at AlYamamah - and Umar Bin AlKhattab was with him. He Abu Bakr said: Umar came to me and said: The fighting inflicted many casualties among the reciters of the Quran on the Day of AlYamamah; and I fear that there will be more casualties among the reciters in other parts of the land; such that much of the Quran may be lost. In my view; you should order that the Quran be collected. Abu Bakr said to Umar: How can I do something which was not done my the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ? Umar said: By Allah! It is something good. Umar continued trying to convince me until Allah opened up my chest to that which He had opened the chest of Umar; and I saw it as he saw it. Zaid said: Abu Bakr said: You are a young wise man; and we have no suspicions of you. You used to write down the Revelation for the Messenger of Allah as the Quran was revealed. He Zaid said: By Allah! If they had ordered to move one of the mountains it would have been lighter on me than that. He said: I said: How will you do something which was not done by the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ? Abu Bakr said: By Allah! It is something good. Abu Bakr and Umar continued trying to convince me; until Allah opened up my chest for that; just as He had opened their chests; the chest of Abu Bakr and the chest of Umar. So I began searching for Quranic material from parchments; leaf stalks of date-palms and AlLikhaf - meaning stones - and the chests of men. I found the end of Surah Baraah with Khuzaimah Bin Thabit: Verily; there has come to you a Messenger from among yourselves. It grieves him that you should receive any injury or difficulty. He is eager for you; for the believers he is full of pity; kind; and merciful. But if they turn away; say: Allah is sufficient for me. SunanAbuDawoud-017-001-27006Ali said to Ibn Abad : should I not tell you about me and about Fatimah; daughter of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. She was dearest to him of his family. When she was with me; she pulled mill-stone which affected her hand; she carried water with the water-bag which affected the upper portion of her chest: She swept the house so much so that her clothes became dusty; and she cooked food by which her clothes became black; and it harmed her. We heard that some slaves had been brought to the prophet ﷺ. I said: if you go to your father and ask him for a servant; that will be sufficient for you. She came to him and found some people talking to him. She felt shy and returned. Next morning he visited us when we were in our quilt. He sat beside her head; and she took her head into the quilt out of shame from her father. He asked: What need had you with me; O family of Muhammad? She kept silence twice. I then said : I swear by Allah; I shall tell you. She pulls the mile-stone which has affected her hand; she carrys water with the water-bag which has affected the upper portion of her chest; she sweeps the house by which her clothes have become dusty; and she cooks food by which her clothes have become black. When I finished the prayer; I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: Messenger of Allah; do give me your hand. Next day she came again. He asked her ; what was your need? But she kept silence. So I said; I inform you; Apostle of Allaah ﷺ. She pulled grinding stone so much that it affected her hand; she carried water bag so much so that it affected the upper portion of her chest. When the slaves were brought to you I asked her to come to you and to ask you for a slave to save her from the exertion she is suffering. He said Fear Allaah; Fathimah and perform the duty of your Lord and do the work of your family. When you go to bed say Glory be to Allaah thirty three times; Praise be to Allaah thirty three times; Allaah is Most Great thirty four times. This is hundred times. That will be better for you than a servant.
